Morning all,

79° and clear, high going for 104° later. Schools having sports practice before school this week as it's just too hot to be outside. Grandson in cross country said it was weird yesterday running through the halls at school and not getting yelled at...

Willie: I have an HP all in one inkjet that is nearly 10 years old and never had any issues with, although the Canon and Epson printers I had, seemed that the ink dried up in the printers from sitting. We have several of the Brother laser printers and they work pretty well. Laser toner cartridges are always more expensive than the ink printers. Especially at the home market level. Years ago, I worked at an accounting firm that wanted laser printers on every manager desk. Found one that cost $100. Decent enough printer for what it was. Replacement toner was $150, yes, more than the cost of the printer.

Good morning. Was 75° at Midnight, 71° at 0700, and 71°now, going back to maybe 78°. Go figure.

Phillies beat Baseball Giants 10 - 4; Mets beat Atlanta 10 - 4. Washington's Football Team beat Baltimore 29 - 28.

Newly Minted Tropical Storm Harold is heading for Texas...Since Hillary has turned to vapor, Harold is the new object for hype.

Good morning printer searchers and helpers. I’m no help. We have a printer still being used that we purchased when we moved in 2014. It’s a HP all in one thing. The faxing and scanning features are used weekly and I cannot remember when I last printed anything. Terry prints the occasional recipe!

Well today our heat moves up to high 80’s with a heat index of high 90’s. Tomorrow supposedly the heat index will be over 110. That to me is called a train room day!

The granddaughter and I enjoyed the pool most of yesterday afternoon. Then at 5:30 we went to see the grandson play the last game of his Summer hockey season. He had a very good season but more importantly to me is he said he had fun. His soccer practices for Wednesday and Thursday this week have been cancelled already due to the Heat Index temperatures! I do agree.

A few things after the Tuesday grocery run today. Gas was $3.79 a gallon yesterday. After today’s grocery buying spree I should have that covered with the HYVEE gas rewards program. 2nd time this month I need to buy gas! We will stop at Hiawatha Hobbies today as a side trip to visiting the SIL’s dad. His wife passed away in May just as we got to Austin. A late lunch out along with the visit. The SIL‘s dad is a super guy as was his wife. Total opposites of the SIL’s mother who is a PITA and who’s sh.. doesn’t stink!

Picking up 4 ST bulkheads a weathering client purchased that Hiawatha is holding for me. I maybe able to weather them towards the middle to end of September or this weekend. I am having 3rd and 4th thoughts about starting the new business adventure in September. The guy I was going to partner with cannot now bring as much money along as he thought! I can go it alone, but I don‘t want to. If we don’t do this September opens up with time to weather. I doubt I will get much time in the train room tonight but if I do it will be used to setup the NCE Power Cab on the program track. Then I get to learn how to use it.

enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 81°, I should see 105° again today. The usual heat advisories and red flag warnings are still in effect. A bit of a change in the forecast with a 25% chance of rain Sat.-Tues. Beginning Monday, there's currently a 4 day stretch with temperatures in the upper 90's, and overnight lows around 70°.

Thanks to all who provided input on a new computer printer. After reading your comments and reviewing some websites, maybe I'm going overboard looking at a laser-jet color printer. As Patrick pointed out and having read some reviews, it seems like getting replacement ink cartridges might break the bank.

So today is the short one week follow-up appointment on the cataract surgery on the left eye. All seems normal and improved to me. Right now, one more follow-up on 9/5 and then I don't know. I'll be returning the cotton ball today along with some questions.

While on the subject of doctors and medical appointments, I spent over 90 minutes on the phone yesterday over two issues. The first and most painstaking episode involved my primary care guy who referred me to a vascular surgeon (who I have seen before), based on the results of the four ultrasound tests from last month. So I was surprised last week when the lab that the vascular guy uses called to schedule the very same tests. Called the PCP's office and they claimed that they had sent them, but I had recently gone through this same scenario with my cardiologist over the same results. Eventually I heard nothing back, so I called the vascular doctor's office yesterday and they can't do anything without those lab results. Hopefully it may now be resolved since the vascular surgeon's nurse is going to contact the PCP's office directly and ask why they gave a referral without sending lab results. Medicare ain't paying to have the tests done again so soon after the first ones. Both times, the receptionist at the PCP's office insisted that she had sent them. I've spoken to her at least five times in the past two weeks. At this point I still don't have an appointment with the vascular guy.
The second episode involved the two procedures that I had done last month that didn't resolve the internal bleeding. Since my computer printer flaked out, I couldn't print the results off at home to prove that I had had them. Called the hospital, but they can't release them just on my word, the request had to come directly from the doctor's office. I eventually got the office manager at the doctor's office who knew what to do, and that's settled. This is in regard to that "capsule endoscopy" that I described a few weeks ago. But since it's been over five years since he did a colonoscopy, I have to go in as a new patient, an extra visit.

After all of that, the alarm sound on my cell phone went silent after an update sometime Sunday night, and I napped for 80 minutes instead of the 40 minutes that I had it set for, so more time yesterday wasted.

I got a little done yesterday out in the train shed, very little. Mailbox and pathway in front of the farmhouse.

Tom O - That's really a shame and a scare regarding the trespassers on your property. Some people have no respect. I don't hear of that happening around here other than illegal migrants crossing property near the border.
Planning on going to the train show on Sunday.
Chad - I don't mean to rain on the party, but that Argon filling is actually a bit of hype. Yes it is more effective than plain air, but it can leach out over the years. The good news is that it can be replaced by a qualified professional. The science behind this is that glass expands and contracts, while the Argon does not. When the glass expands, it compresses the Argon and pushes it out. Overall, it is usually worth the initial cost in energy savings before it becomes ineffective.

Gotta head out now for the doctor appointment. Everyone have a great day.

I've found that per-page a laser is cheaper than an ink-jet, but I've mostly looked at "work group" level printers. These printer companies work on a "drug habit" basis. They sell you the printer at no profit and get you to buy the toner/ink at a high price for-ever. You are "addicted".

A small workgroup printer may be cheaper to run though cost more up front since work group printers are made to handle more work so their consumables wll be cheaper (or no one would buy them) on a per page basis. You may pay the same or more for a cartridge but the cartridge is good for 5000 pages instead of 1000.

No problem on this side :) They only offer the windows with it so I get it no matter what. They use the balloons for the acclimatization process and want you cut and crimp at the hottest part of the day if possible.

OK, all you computer geeks. I need to replace my printer. However I am a neophyte at this, none of the past five printers that I have bought have lasted more than a few years. I am hoping for a laser-jet model that prints, scans and copies. I have never faxed nor do I see a need. I'm done with the ink-jet varieties, cartridges are mostly wasted doing nozzle cleaning etc, when the initial print doesn't work.
If it makes a difference, my desktop is a HP, current printer is an Epson and it sucks. I only print a couple of times a month, so it sits idle a lot. Wireless is necessary so my wife can print from her laptop.
I'd like a low cost model, but price is no object for something that could make quality copies for a long time.
Any recommendations???
Printers: You do not mention color so you should be cheaper from the get-go. Take a short trip to Office Depot, Best Buy or the like and give them a look. You should be able to get something with a pretty small footprint.

I ditched inkjets years ago when it was cheaper just to get a new inkjet printer than to by ink cartridges for the things; which never did make any sense to me.

I suspect that since you want to scan/copy you are going to be stuck with a color model. Wife bought a new HP MFP M281fw. Both wireless and Ethernet. Black toner is about $70, CMY just a tad more. They ship the new ones with not much toner so if you go that way remember to get additional toner at buy time. Just printing black text the thing will go 2500 sheets before more toner is needed. This one prints a sheet about 12 seconds after sending to the printer, then cranks pages out. One of the other good things is that the toner does not run like inkjet if you happen to spill something on the print or walk out into a heavy fog. Toner is fused into the paper. Oh, and don't let anybody tell you that all you have to do is spray the inkjet pages with hairspray ( or something ) to keep the ink from running. I do not have time to spray 80 to 100 pages after printed. She has had this for almost 2 years now and does uses it every once-in-awhile mostly for State/Fed stuff. I use it when I am sitting in the house vs out in the train cave. Think she paid $350 for it. The menu system takes a couple of tries to figure it out, but after that it seems pretty simple to scan/copy ( PDF ) to an eMail addy, or some directory on some PC somewhere. It also has a web-based menu system that is much easier ( to me ) to use than using a 1 1/2" x 2" screen to navigate the menus.

I bought a Brother color ( don't remember the model just now ) 10 or so years ago and it is still going strong. Toner is just a tad cheaper than the HP above. I also have a HP2340dw purchased used about 2000. That toner is about $40 ( black only ). I have replaced the paper pickup tear sheets, rollers and fuser; about $100. When we were on the road we needed to print stuff so we got an el-cheapo laser ( Pantum ) wireless for about $70 and that thing is still working good even after bouncing around in the truck for a few years.

Note that NONE of the above printers are 'production' printers, basically for home or small office. Yes, only the wife's printer scans/copies, I just wanted to suggest that the lasers are better/faster with overall cheaper consumables, and usually last longer than the inkjets.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those with doctors and heat

It's Troy again.

Already got about 1500 words worded today. I might get that up to 2000. Well see.

I got the car scheduled for a 60,000-mile service this Thursday. And I go in for my 34,456,000,000 mile checkup in about 1.5 hours. I don't expect anything exciting. Just need to get refills on my albuterol for the asthma and one other med.

This morning, while on my walk, i picked up a hitchhiker. No idea where. Afterwards, I headed to shower, stopped to brush my teeth, and the little green fellow, looked like a katydid without wings nor legs, plopped into the sink. Didn't think anything of it, but as I showered, my lip started to tingle. Scrubbing my face made me think there was a sore there.

Yep. Got a bug bite. Been putting Benadryl gel on it all morning, which helps.

That little green fellow went down the drain, and I barely got a look at him, so I've no idea what bit me. But it still feels like a bite there. Fortunately, no adverse effects other than the tingly lip that went away a moment after the Benadryl was applied.

And for all of you airbrush afficianados out there:

And, if you are bored, or visiting the loo and need something to read, here's the recap of my tournament experience in Ontario last week.

Afternoon All,

Went to the VA yesterday and was given a steroid creme and a strong antihistamine that has a sleep aid in it. I'm still dealing with the itching, but it looks like the rash is starting to get smaller. Last night was the first full night sleep I've had in 8 days. It was wonderful. I started the 3-rail fence that will surround the cow pasture on the layout although I still need to figure out a gate system for crossing a track.

I just wanted to say hi and let you know I'm still on the green side of the grass.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good evening. 66° and partly cloudy. Temperature dropped 5° once the sun went down. Going to the upper 50s overnight, upper 70s tomorrow. Today was perfect. We went for out longest walk, 0.91 miles, using two trails at the Reservoir. Did some baking, and some yard work. Right now, I'm kind of sore. Looking forward to another walk tomorrow, and more out door time doing yard work.

Curt: Hope the treatment works...get well soon.

Willie: Amazing how some doctors / practices can get a full work-up on your history and condition with a few key strokes, while others can't seem to keep track of blood work, tests, x-rays etc. they ordered. They just order another set of tests they will lose...
My Primary, aka Dr. Referral, gave me a script for blood work, with the stipulation that I do not get the blood taken until after May 8. My appointment was for the 15th and postponed to the 31st. Had the blood drawn on the 11th, results back on the 12th, on the Quest web site. Primary's Portal did not show any results, I printed the full detailed work-up and brought it with me on the 31st. Primary claimed he didn't have the results...I gave him the copy. Portal now shows blood work over due... Since I'm on traditional medicare, and supplement, and can go almost anywhere, without referral or network concerns, I wonder if I really need a primary?
It's all about generating fees with these people, as well as circumventing medicare rules... Your circumstances may vary.

Good morning gang!

56° under clear skies this morning turning cloudy in the afternoon with a high of only 82°. It almost feels like fall out there.

I laid another 12 feet of cork roadbed last night, before running out of adhesive (drat). Another trip to HD is in the future.

Flo, can Mel make me a Taylor ham and fried egg sammich on a Kaiser roll this morning ? Thank doll,

BBL
