Good morning from an unusual WIsconsin day. Heat index the claim by the weather guessers will go pass110f. Actual temperature of 98 per the Weather Channel app or 99 per the Senior Chief came out of semi-retirement TV guy📺 Meteorologist. I am going with Terry’s TV guy! Not a nice day. It’s already 78 with the humidity at 93% and the dew point is 76 degrees. The windows are a touch wet! The patio deck is very wet. I’m staying in until I don’t have to.

Terry has a 11am appointment with a scanning machine. She called yesterday for an appointment figuring 6 weeks or so. The lady said she had 3 cancellations because of the heat for today, did she want one of those? So since the car has A/C it will just be on higher than normal.

Brunch out afterwards but the Farmers Markets have been ruled out. She said we live without cabbage this week!

I have weathering projects going on. My normal times in the train room of 3-2 hour sessions maybe altered the next few days. I still will pay attention to the times but because of the heat, I know someone will be fairly cranky since she won’t be riding. I have learned to just leave her alone after being together 52 years and approaching year 47 of married bliss. I have been known to get lost in concentration and for me that’s not healthful. But I doubt I will be outside relaxing the next few days!

enjoy the day

Morning to those who are hurting with high heat indexes!
62 at the moment and going towards 88 under a cloudless sky and, at the moment, calm wind!

Have another 36 hours to wear this little wireless heart monitor before sending it back to the Doctor and then awaiting for a call for an appointment. So far i have not had anything "exciting" enough to press the event button which would alert them to check the tape.

Youngest daughter here, along with her 17 YO son has Covid again! I understand that another variant seems to be going around. I plan to go and find a test kit today - I still have the sore throat problem ... one day it seems better, then the next day is seems worse?

FLO - A trio of thos small breakfast ,sausage and egg burritos with a large OJ, please!
I will be around - in and out!

Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 78°, maybe just 103° today after 104° yesterday.

The good news at the ophthalmologist office yesterday is that my vision is now 20/20 in both eyes. While that was not my original goal in having the surgery done, I was told in advance that it might happen. As I probably posted before, what I was not told and didn't realize was going to happen was that everything is more vivid and colorful than before. A real pleasant surprise.
I was seen by an associate doctor at the place, as my doctor was busy with other patients. It's a really busy place and is the top rated office in Denton with three ophthalmologists. She was totally "thunderstruck" when I handed her the cotton ball that fell out of my eye three days after the surgery; she carefully wrapped it in a sterile tissue of some sort to report it to the doctor. The male nurse in attendance was similarly taken aback by it. It was definitely not something that they wanted to see or hear. Still have to put eye drops in the left eye for three more weeks, one more week in the right eye, before everything is considered complete. This left one recovered much more quickly than the right one.

Last night we went to Texas Roadhouse to celebrate as we still had a $50 gift card given to us at out 50th anniversary party last year. My ears are still ringing! I don't understand why that is the loudest restaurant we have ever eaten in. And it's not just there, we've eaten at other locations during vacation travels and they are all loud. To make matters worse, our table was next to a woman whose loud laughter made Kamela Harris's cackle seem tame. Then the table across from us had the birthday bash for a young girl and at least a dozen employees hooted and hollered. Their food is great, but to be honest, if it wasn't for the gift card we never would have gone there given the reputation and our experience with the noise.

I only spent a short time in the train shed yesterday, primarily putting up supplies used in the most recent project. I dd add some clumps of weeds, mostly along the railroad right of way, but didn't take any pictures since I am not done yet. That part of any project is tedious, but it definitely makes the scene look realistic. I don't mind doing it, it just takes a lot of time.
Let's follow a container train around the upper level this morning.

Curt - Good to read that things are improving and you're getting a full nights sleep.
Tom - Wish that it would rain here. I wouldn't mind mowing right now. There was a slim hope with the tropical disturbance Harold, but it took a turn west and pelted the Texas/Mexico border instead.
Joe - It is my true belief that once a doctor realizes that you are on Medicare, the number of visits and referrals goes up more than double. Private insurance companies when I was younger scrutinized and caused accounting miseries for them, so they limited unnecessary billing as much as possible. Not so with Medicare, they just pay because it's not their money to begin with. My primary care doctor's staff has been somewhat incompetent for the 20 years that I have been using him.

Everybody have a great day.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with coffee mugs... Posted this in the wrong forum... for some reason the Coffee Shop is hit or miss if I get a red dot on the Bell Icon for notifications of a new post or three

Seems the Mail Call thread has a theme of coffee mugs going on, but I thought I'd share here,

Wife grumps at me whenever we travel and I get a new coffee mug. I like to remember where I've been by collecting mugs. I use each for a while, and when cupboard space becomes an issue, I retire a couple to the memories shelf in the basement. But, I need a second memories shelf. My bourbon collection is starting to become a collection. A couple more bottles and I will need to move some mugs off the shelf.

Anyhoooo while in Ontario, I spotted this little fellow hiding in the gift shop of the Skylon tower. Should you venture to Niagara, a trip to the top of the tower is a great view, and the gift shop is a dollar or two cheaper than those on Clifton street.

Now, I'm not saying that the wife doesn't collect much. She looks at the bare walls that I say need decoration, and she says "They've got paint, they're fine."

But she did get a Canadian shot glass. She uses a shot glass in the bathroom for mouthwash, and broke one of the two she's had since college. So I convinced her to get a spare. A collection of two isn't much, but it's a start.

Good Morning All!

61F @ 81% - supposed to be rain, rain rain; not yet though

Welp, picked this up day before yesterday; Wife's new ride. Went to Kalispell for new tires and rims, got 18 Mpg @ 70Mph ( almost all the way ). Smooth running ride!

IMGP0782.JPG

Now I need to get to the car guy and change the tire diameter with his ForScan thingie. Wife chose the rims, I suggested the tread pattern for the tires. Want to check the alignment, but probably not needed as it runs straight down the road hands off the wheel AND when semi-hard braking.

Supposed to get a 2010 Nissan Frontier on Friday, will post when that happens.

The Edge in the background is gonna be gone - CraigsList, FB Market Place; both or whatever.

Good afternoon all. It has been a busy few days. Having said; I did manage to build two models. They stilll need finishing off. Then I shall start a third.

TODD -- What is that auto we are looking at this morning?
Anymore I cannot tell one from another!
Looks clean and sharp! What model & year? If a newsed, would you share the cost?
This is a 2014 Expedition EL. Has power everything; seats - all three sets, rear hatch along with seat warmers/coolers and a moisture detector for the front glass ( never had one of those before ), factory built in tow package. 130K miles - paid 14K. It is really clean; no WeatherTech yet. Was like I was pulling teeth when I wanted to put in twenty 8 ft 2x4's!

Afternoon All,

Had another full night's sleep and minimal itching today so I feel I may be close to turning the corner with whatever it is. Today I ran errands and did a couple of chores. I started trying to add more fencing, but everything kept pulling out because the base of the Tichy fencing is so short. I gave up and looked at possibilities online and ordered 4 packs of the WS barbed wire fencing from MTS. Their discount paid for the shipping. I have chores on the agenda tomorrow and if things go well, I think I'll start walking again on Friday.

Thank you for all the well wishes and thoughts over the last 7-10 days.

TomO- I hope you survived the heat. It's not very often your local temperature is warmer than mine. The heat index here is 106F today.

Sherrel- I'm glad you survived both of the apocalypse's that I saw on the news.

Willie- Nice scenes.

David- Nice photos.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good Evening!
Wow! Life is busy, I can tell you!
The call was put out through the grapevine. Come help a stage 4 cancer patient; just a young man with a family. Due to illness, he was unable to tend the yard much over the summer. He was asking for some help with the yard work, someone to mow the lawn.
So the wife and I headed over there. Low and behold, there was 7 or 10 other folks there.
Everyone put their backs into it. Grass was cut, trimmed, and edged, garden and flower beds weeded, dead trees removed, green-house taken down, and everything else taken care of. The entire yard was beautiful when we were done.
The mans grand-mother was the one who put out the call. I don't believe anyone spoke with him while we were there. The story I hear is that he only has a few days left. I hope we were able to give him some comfort during his end of days journey.

The wife and I are headed out on a pack horse trip soon. We're headed into the lower Rockies, Cline River area of central Alberta. The wife's never been on a horse and wants to experience the adventure. So, I've planned a short 2-day trip in through some scenic canyon area and high ground.
I had a good smile at the wife today, after she purchased proper cowboy duds and a hat. She's excited.

I did go downtown, into the CN yard to have a look-see today. There was no action down there.
That burned-out SD40 is still sitting on a side track, so I took a few more photos of her. It was raining, so I didn't stay long.
Here's today's photo:

Curt - Great to hear you are coming around and getting back to life's duties. All the best to you!
Sherrel - Man, do I ever hope that heart monitor thing points out nothing but good news. I'd hate to have to come mow your lawn too. Best wishes to ya!!!
Willie - The layout looks wonderful. I really do appreciate your consistent photo posts. Well done, indeed.

This last while, I've been running about 18 pages behind. Don't look like that's going to improve anytime soon. Perhaps I'll be able to get back to it when the snow fly's.

Have a great evening, everyone!

you're a good man, Charlie "Guy" Brown ;)

In other news, tomorrow is 60k checkup/maintenance for the Camry. So I'll have the dealer's shuttle drop me off at Panera Bread where I can sit in comfort, with coffee and tea, and try to get some words worded.

Today, I managed to get the paint job finished on these "phantoms". Supposedly they're flying collections of souls to haunt people's nightmares. I'm going with the Tim Burton theme, but there are bits of color leaking into the landscape since they're the ones that stole Christmas. Also need to drybrush the black areas of the landscape grey, then add the snow paste in patches.

I'll add snow later. But for now, I'm thinking I'll gloss-coat the monsters, instead of my normal dull coat. They're misty, and a bit gooey, so gloss may work better.

I don’t drink coffee but a FB friend started a business so I purchased a couple mugs. Front and backsides shown

Willie: Yeah, Medical Necessity is a very broad area. However, it is so much better than the Managed care Amtrak offered. For instance, the only Network Orthopedic was 32 miles away, in Woodbridge, and affiliated with a Hospital near Metropark Station.
Most of the people at my primary's office have been there for 20 years or longer, and some are pretty bad. Only reason I continue with him is that other Primary care practices are much worse.

Sherrel: Since the Covid Emergency was declared over, covid tests are no longer covered except under certain circumstance. You are better off going in to a walk in if you can't get in to see your primary. Check with Kaiser's web site to see if your plan still covers the test.

Orioles won 7 -0 over Toronto...unfortunately, Tampa Bay won in the 10th 👎. Also unfortunately, the Yankees ended their losing streak tonight over DC, 9 - 1 :(. The Mets, however, have returned to their losing ways, Atlanta 7, Queens 0.

Tom O: About time the Sox cleaned house...Rumors are flying that they are interested in moving to Nashville...

Have a good night.

Good Morning All. Clear above, cloudy on the eastern horizon and 81°. 106° later just like yesterday, but the forecast is for below 100° for 5 days beginning Monday. Heat advisory continues for this week.

Today would have been my Mom's 94th birthday if we hadn't lost her early in 1994. RIP.

Got an unexpected call yesterday from the pulmonologist office reminding me of my appointment today at 8:45! For whatever reason I had it written down as Monday. Found the original appointment card and sure enough I had written it wrong. OK, though. I will just leave for the weekly grocery trek 90 minutes early and go there first. Looks like the dishwasher will not get emptied until after lunch now!

A first for me yesterday, a video doctor's conference. All because I needed a refill on a prescription and my next appointment isn't until October. It lasted all of 6 minutes, but he got paid for a full office visit! He's actually been out of his office for surgery and needed to catch up with my doings. I expect the missing ultrasound results were sent to the proper other doctor yesterday if they weren't correctly done Monday.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I did add more weeds to the farmhouse scene. Here is a small sampling of what is there now.

There's more up and down along the ROW, but if you've seen one clump of weeds, you've seen them all.

Sherrel - Sometime a few months ago, I read that Covid test kits were no longer going to be free, so I submitted requests in both of our names to the Post Office and we now have 8 of them. I don't know how long they are good for and I actually think that we still have some from 2021. Most of my #2 daughter's family has it now, having picked it up from SIL's family on their family vacation in North Carolina earlier this month. I will avoid the rant regarding it being preventable.
Troy -

I just go straight to the "What's New" tab and select threads from there. Not sure that I have seen the red dot on the bell, I usually see a number.
Todd - Nice looking new ride.
Curt - Glad to read that you are finally feeling better.
St. Guy - Be safe on the pack horse trip. Enjoy.
Joe - Very few of my primary care docs staff members last more than 3-4 years; but I like and trust him as well as the PA that sometimes accompanies him.

I have to move on due to the newly discovered appointment this morning, so everybody have a wonderful day.
