Evening. Got back home at about 1:30 in the morning last night. Made it all the way from almost middle of Iowa. Come home, roads are closed, tree branches scattered everywhere. Sand and stones spilling onto the pavement from driveways and so on. Must have been windy and watery here.

this wide radiator 20 cylinder classic was sitting on a siding in Montana east of Helena and waiting for an eastbound empty hopper with probably well over 200 cars. That hopper train i wound up chasing from Helena all the way to Billings although half way into it i didn't try too hard. It just turned out that way:

Here it is just leaving Helena as i was photographing this interesting cargo:

So the Mullan Pass is the way they bring Boeing737 cabins in to Seattle for finishing. I was wondering about that, since seeing cargo like that in Kansas last year. Little risky business:

While pacing it with a car, these are mid train helpers on that empty hopper (DPUs in todays language). Two more were pushing. This now unique two track signal cantilever i got as the rear helpers roared by in Towson, Montana. These cantilever signal masts are disappearing fast, so get them while you can (this one is about to be replaced).

For those who like short locals, this MRL has just passed Boseman Pass ahead of that long hopper train and is heading towards Livingston:

Beautifull Livingston depot:

I deffinitely reccomend it for anyone into Northwest history and railroad. Inside is a little museum and in the adjoining building are model railroads:

It was a little easier and safer to pace the model "Screamer" F40PH:

Good evening. Currently, a warm 69°, mostly clear, with calm wind. Due to the calm wind, the smell of charcoal and fire pit wood smoke lingers in the air. Going down to 66°, after a high of 87° today.

The Baltimore Baseball Team won, the Bronx Team blew their lead, and lost. The Philadelphia Team Lost, and in the 6th Inning, the Team from Queens is leading the Atlanta team.

My Atlas Yellow Box Alco S-2, (Austria), purchased in 1986 apparently has a gear issue with the #1 truck, This one has a TCS S-6 decoder installed. :( Solution is to rob another Yellow Box Austria RS-1 of its wheel sets, as the other was never upgraded to DCC, and is just sitting there. I might also contact Atlas, and see if the axles on the current S2 / S4 are comparable but in the interim, i can keep it running. I have replacement axles for P2K and Athearn engines, but not Atlas. Parts for a 37 year old engine, may be a tad hard to find.

After a couple days of cheating on my breakfast diet (Bagel and butter and Taylor Ham and Egg on a bagel, tomorrow I go back to my "healthy" Oatmeal with granola breakfast. All this talk of gravy fries, and bacon on grits made me hungry for something other than low sodium, low fat food...like biscuits and gravy? Maybe....???

Sounds like the situation in Maui is turning into a debacle. The real tragedy is the 93 souls lost to the wild fire, but the after action report is going to be revealing...sad.

The grandchildren will be here tomorrow, and stay a week. Hope the wife is up to it. I'm no sure I am....Promise to try, though.

Tomorrow, food shopping, BJ's first, then ShopRite. Need to get an early start. Going to be warm tomorrow.

We really barely heard it, but it was kinda cool to watch.
cya all tomorrow, I’m bushed.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those bushed or whacked... ;)

It's Troy again.

On tap today, the wife is going to make us walk a lot as we go see Niagara Falls. I'm in charge of driving and agreeing with whatever she suggests.

I'll post some fun highlight photos, so you all can see the wide range of miniatures we use in our little armies.

Overall, I came in 22 out of 28. Drat! I was shooting for the wooden spoon award. But ended up getting a nice prize. Award winners gota nice trophy and a handshake. The prize pool was awarded in reverse order, bottom up getting to choose a prize from the stash. Almost making up my entry fee with the retail value of the box of minis. So no complaints.

the one game I won (and cost me the wooden spoon) was against an army that hadn't been painted yet.

These Ratmen were the worst trouncing I got. But that player is one of the top-ranked in North America.

My first game was enjoyable against Jason from New York State, and his simple orcs. He seemed more concerned with decorating bases than getting any color other than green on the models.

This chap's army had the best "Thing"... what we were calling our Titans or Giants. Each player got to design the stats for the giants using a chart from the rules.

Instead of selecting based on rules and statistics, most of the players looked at the models and paint work. I chose this one, and it won! I hope to paint this well some day.
