Good Morning All. Clear and 74°, heading up to just 104° after 105° yesterday. Clouds rolled in yesterday afternoon and we eventually had a thunderstorm just after dusk that left 0.35" in the rain gauge. About all that did was settle the dust, maybe until early afternoon today.
Yesterday the pool temperature started at 84° and only rose to 87°. That's actually about average for this time in August, given the decreasing day length. I miss not being able to dunk under, but doctor's orders are what they are. I understand his concern about pool chemicals and the healing after the cataract surgery, but he allows showers and shampoo! Technically that restriction will be lifted on 9/6, three weeks after the other eye. If this year is like most others, I should still be using the pool until about 9/25 or so.
It must be Thursday on the SFW estate, the fridge is quite empty so it must be the weekly grocery trek today. Even the freezer is looking sparse, but I will wait for the right opportunities to bulk-purchase meats. Additional stops today at the Vitamin shop, the pharmacy and Sam's Club for charcoal and hearing aid batteries. Plus, my wife will go wandering and fill up a cart.
I spent some time yesterday morning before the heat, weedeating around the pool and did some other minor tasks in the yard. Today, the dishwasher will wait until I return from the grocery trek to be emptied.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I started a long overdue project. This spot is between two other farms and is approximately 23" x 20" x 11".
I originally had an ambitious plan for a pole fence here, but I removed those posts yesterday because the Woodland Scenics barbed wire fencing is so much easier.
I have had structures available for quite some time.
The laser-cut wood house and barn both came from American Model Builders, the red-roofed outbuildings are ancient kits from Plasticville and the windmill is from Walther's. Tentative building arrangement looks like this.
I got started with the fence along the railroad ROW first.
I usually put ground cover down first before putting fencing in, but it is really hard to find the holes that I drill for the posts when I do it that way. The mounting pins on these posts are 0.026" and I am drilling 0.030 holes with a pin vise. In this case, I have a chance to reverse the steps and see how it turns out.
There will be cows in that back pasture.
David - I have no problems with Amazon drivers any more. They used to have issues because no one around me (me included) has their address on their homes. they fixed their system a while back, so when a driver finds the right place, he "pings" his location so all subsequent deliveries go to the right places. It also helps me in that the closest next door neighbors are over a quarter mile away; that's 0.4km to you.
I spent a little time before dawn this morning looking at the Perseid Meteor Shower, It was good for 1-2 meteors a minute in the direction that I was looking, which is north. For more info and some geeky stuff,
read this.
Everybody have a great day.
