77° and cloudy. Yesterday's rains totaled 1.04". The violent weather stayed well to our South.

This morning's activity included a trip to Hobby Schlobby, and ShopRite. Yesterday, I walked a total of 32" in two bursts of 16" (timed), following an indoor course through the living room, hall and kitchen. There goes my bad weather excuse for not walking. Of course, one can't walk to fast, but the idea is movement and endurance, not distance.

Sherrel: Wish Kate a happy Birthday.

Willie: Only a few more weeks of Texas Summer. I hear you on doctor visits also.

Grandchildren will be here next week. Not sure I'm looking forward to their visit. They are all about what we can buy them while they are here, and I'm not in a spending mood, especially when all they want is movie themed merchandise, from the recent Barbie and Mutant ninja turtle movies. These kids have no limits.

Big storm yesterday, power still out, got home to this

Still no power today, gotta call my insurance company today, get. Both cars dented.
I'm sorry to see this, Karl. As if you are not busy enough! Thank God no one was hurt.

Watching TV yesterday I saw a tornado watch was in effect. Lying in bed watching TV at about 6pm the storm started here. I seldom hear the rain when I'm in the house, but this storm was "loud and clear" I woke up just after midnight and I could still see flashes of lightning.

Looking at that video on Facebook it is a good thing you were home. I'm sure your dog was happy you were home.

I hope you get your power back soon. From my experience BGE is reliable with their estimates.

I love the color of the S-10. :)

I am nowhere close to an "engineer" (as in maths and design)... Maths and I don't get along at all.

But I'm fascinated by processes, and how those things come together.

And my hero, Adam Savage of Mythbusters is working with Princess Cruise lines to showcase the line's newest ship. Here's a 30-ish minute of Adam and one of the design engineers doing a walk-under of the ship, on the day before it was floated out of drydock.

At the 12 min mark, they start talking about the air lube... fascinating!

So, I got started on the latest laser kit. It's Consolidated Auto Parts Co. a Motrak Models kit. It seems similar to the RSLaser build in that it has a foundation. I did add bracing, something I always do to help limit warping. It could use an "exploded" view for directions, as it is only text. I would also say it would not be a good kit for one's first laser kit.

Yo Louis: What do you make of Kevin Brown's removal and "non suspension", by noted Tightwad, John Angelos, for telling a sanctioned MASN Factoid over the air, which "Cheapskate John" said made him look cheap....Just another black mark on Baltimore Sports teams...eh? Everyone in Metro Baltimore and Metro DC, knows John Angelos is tighter with a buck than even his old man Peter. Now the whole country knows how cheap and what a jerk he is......in fact it's even featured on Sportsnet.CA in Canada...

I didn't see it, but I'm not surprised. They got rid of Brooks Robinson years ago for telling the truth about how bad the Orioles had been playing. Same with Jon Miller. Nobody is safe from spoiled rich brats.

Maybe some day the state of New Jersey will let folks pump their own gasoline, like the rest of the country. I remember pumping my own as early as 1971.
When I went to college in Arlington Texas in the fall of 1966, I remember Arlington having self serve gas stations while Dallas did not. Some folks may be old enough to remember "gas wars". This is when one station would lower their prices and another station would lower theirs all in an effort to pull in customers for an oil change, a wash job, lube job or to sell a set of tires. Well in Arlington, self serve stations would have a gas war just to sell more gas and I can remember buying gas at 16.9 cents a gallon back then. I would drive my car on "fumes" from Dallas to save 5 cents a gallon on gas in Arlington.
Gas was $3.49 a gallon here in west Texas yesterday.

Have a great day....John

Boris - I have some great memories of NJ, Alpine and White Horse in particular. Of course, that was some 60 years ago, before politicians screwed everything up. Spent the summer of 63 in Alpine. My best friend's grandparents had a place in White Horse. It was rural then. We would race up and down the fields in a go-cart.
Heck, I would have probably enjoyed Cape May if it weren't for the fact that I was in USCG boot camp.
Wasn't there a place called Keansburg, not sure of the spelling, had an amusement park on a pier. I remember going there has a child, not sure how old I was, but it was the first time I rode bumper cars.

Yes, in the late 60's into the early 70's, Dallas, Houston and a few other "big" cities in Texas still didn't allow self-serve. I always got mine in Carrollton, a northern suburb of Dallas where I worked. 7-11 finally put enough pressure on the Dallas City Council to change the rules.

I filled the car up Monday. The price on the pump was $3.549 but with $3.00 HYVEE grocery discount I only paid $.549. I remember $1.00 buying 5 gallons of gas as a 16 year old driver.

The son landed in Racine, Wi. AA couple hours ago with a group of 10 business people having a National sales meeting. He said it’s cheaper for him to fly over here 100 air miles then it is for him to overnight the plane for 2 nights there and pay hotel costs. Plus he said he knows he can trust the ground crews here. Terry went to pick him and the co-pilot up at the airport and I have my grill going. 2 Tomahawk steaks that I received 4 as a gift for him and me plus egg plant Parmesan for Terry and the co-pilot. Homemade (by the son in law) pasta for spinning on the fork with a thick well spiced tomato sauce Terry created. They are not flying tomorrow so the beer is Spotted Cow for the 3 of them. A Diet Pepsi with no caffeine is my drink of the evening. Other than the expense and size I don‘t get the big deal on Tomahawk steaks. To me it’s an over priced good piece of meat. But I have some and I’m grilling 2.

He’s going to help me re-set the damn Nest thermostat that is thinking on its own. The green leaf comes on and I don’t want it thinking it knows what temperature the house should be at. Downstairs is 68f degrees all year and the upstairs is 72 when heat is needed and 76 if the a/c is needed. It works best for us.

I went through that (very) briefly with a Nest thermostat. It was "phoning home" to the electric company, which was telling it what temp to be. After several attempts to bend it to my will, I had the last word when I ripped it off the wall, tossed it, and put a 7 day programmable thermostat in.

I found it. I remembered going by ferry to Keansburg. ( David, Troy, does that count as a cruise?)

And just to keep it railroad related,

In the 1950's and 1960's several storms wrecked the Keansburg Ferry Pier. The heyday of ferry service ended when the cost of repair became prohibitive. During this same period, the advent of a national highway system made transportation by car and bus cheaper.

And a last photo

Hughie: Sure is, and my kids were there also. Still going strong...on the Bay Shore. I did my Basic at Ft. Dix. My first reason to dislike Jersey. Point Beach and Amusements are nice, Sea Side is OK also. Asbury Park is supposedly on its way back.

Willie: There are a large number of jersey Girls who would disagree about pumping their own gas. They love not having to pump their own gas. They would be very unhappy if the legislature enabled self service, and the politicians know it. One of the best selling T shirts at the shore, says: "Jersey Girls don't pump their own gas".
While the premise is stupid and condescending: "Pump attendants are trained to pump gas safely, the rest of us are not", the five or seven cents/gallon they claim it costs the consumer is a myth. The greedy small business people would pocket the savings, like they did when the governor cut the gas tax . I go to BJ's or Costco, where it's already discounted below retail, and use my CC, and get a minimum of 10¢ / gallon below club price at BJ's so it's all moot.
There are other more serious issues around that keep costs high and quality of life lower, and both partys politicians are equally at fault for not fixing things.

Louis: John Angelos ears should be blazing, Michael Kay, (Yankees), , and Gary Cohen (Mets) both ripped into Angelo, calling him small minded and thin skinned. Kay went as far to imply, he is an unfit owner. U Tube is full of people blasting Orioles Ownership both for this and sins of the past. The "Athletic", has three separate articles concerning the incident. Big mistake by a big jerk. Some compared him to Dan Snyder. Many owners offered muted criticism. Angelos and the O's are a laughing stock.
