Morning all,

Currently 66° and cloudy, going for a high of 90° later. Some spotty storms possible overnight.

Vacation time about a month away. Wife and I are trying to figure if we can finish the western leg of Rt 66. Having family in Michigan, we've been along the interstate along the former route from Joliette, IL to Springfield, MO. Sometime I'd like to run as much of the old route east as I can. We've been on the bulk of the old road from Springfield, MO to Tucumcari, NM. It will take us a 7 hours (about a day) to get to Tucumcari using US54 from Wichita. No need to go to Oklahoma City and then west. Then about another 3-4 days to finish up. The wife would like to see the Grand Canyon, which is only about an hour (one way) off the route. We're considering riding the Grand Canyon RR from Williams, AZ to The Grand Canyon and back. That will ultimately take a day. She'd been to the canyon years ago, but I never have. Biggest issue is whether we can fit everything we'd like to do in. We mostly are running it to say we had done so.
I highly recommend grabbing Route 66 through Arizona, you will not forget the experience. Big plus is former Santa Fe RR running nearby.

The TourX wagon is a neat car, unfortunately the model has died as sales were lackluster at best. As far as the Korean built GM's they are throw away cars, I doubt any of them will be worth a hoot at 100,000 miles if they are anything like the Trax that preceded them. GM just can't build a tiny engine with a turbo on it in a solid package thanks to the bean counters.
Yeah the TourX, so cool looking. It was pricey from what i've read but when i first saw it on the street i recognized german lines right away. With Koreans building (the lowest bidder) margue went to sh.t. In Europe the german build stuff is much better quality. They are generally as popular as VW in my country.

Technically, I've been along Interstate 40 from Tucumcari to Flagstaff years ago, but the old road is the one we're after. My trip along I40 was for business and was a quick trip to Phoenix to help get some horses with my BIL. US54 to Tucumcari, to Flagstaff and south to Phoenix.

Oh indeed, take the train! Wife and I drove up from Phoenix via Sedona and took the train to the canyon. Had a great time, highly recommend it!
Just be careful, there's a long way down!

Rt66 will take you back in time. First time on it, i must have been on some special weekend, tons of classic vehicles running in packs and parked at local few towns.

Remember that if you make it to Santa Monica CA, you can no longer drive onto the pier.

Used to be that the official end of Route 66 was up at Colorado and Lincoln (I think those are the local road names...) because fed highways have to end either at another highway or another international border.

(my mother-unit in the best selfie spot next to the harbor master's office)

That international border is 7 miles out to sea, so it had to end at the highway (that is Lincoln ave) in SaMo.

However, you can park and walk out onto the pier. Get a selfie with the end of sign. Then grab a pierburger and listen to a busker or two.

And, maybe share a blunt (wacky tabaccy) with a buddy under the pier (yes, they definitely were doing so)

Also, be sure to stop in at the Hippodrome and ride the historic carousel. This isn't the original Looff, but 1923 Philadelphia Toboggan Company that was brought over from the Venice pier following a fire on that pier. The Looff had been sold off a few years earlier as part of the bankruptcy process. :(

You might even see a famous face or two from the pier's past...

(Marilyn, Charlie, and Popeye each have connections to the pier, and were there for the 100th anniversary in 2015)

Docent lead pier history walks are back and cost $25 each. Or, you can fly me out, and get a custom tour from a retired docent. 😜

Good Morning All. Clear and a chilly 77° out there right now. The last few days it's been in the mid-80's this time of morning. It only reached 101° yesterday due to the on and off cloud cover; expect the same today and tomorrow before getting back to 106° on Wednesday. There's still that 20% chance of rain tonight. HaHa! We'll continue with the heat advisory and red flag warning for a while.

Wife returned from her one day voyage to Dallas yesterday, with a bag full of stuff from Trader Joe's. All snack food which I don't normally buy or eat. Crazy since she's restarting her Keto diet today for the umpteenth time. Supper last night was my signature homemade Salmon patties, made from wild-caught salmon filet carefully cut and diced, and combined with home-grown onion and parsley, store-bought red bell pepper and Parmesan cheese; and homemade bread crumbs. With that was a stir-fry of home-grown carrots and onions; along with store-bought celery, cauliflower and mushrooms. I did my part of the Keto thing.

Not sure what's on tap today besides pool chemicals. That water temperature dropped to 86° overnight and is quite comfortable this morning. I am late with this post since I enjoyed some time in there after a brief walk this morning. Slowly, I am getting the stamina back to enjoy walking, I am now up to slightly over a half mile at a time. I wish to get back to 1.5 miles a day soon.

Not a lot of activity yesterday out in the train shed. I did add the weeds to the other fence that I installed recently, and planted a few more trees. Neither project deserved a picture, so I will visit the archives for some this morning.
This is a laser-cut wood kit of a feed store from Blair Line. It's sold as Greene's Feed, but I renamed it Wayne Feeds.

Joe - I know that you have been seriously contemplating a move for a few years now. Only you and your wife can decide when and where it's time to go. I can only wish you all the luck that you need. My opinion is that most places either south or west of Jersey can offer a more reasonable locale. Political-wise, I think that it is one of the worst five states to be in, but that's just my opinion.
Curt - Have a safe trip.
Tom O - I like the layout plan. Plenty of room. Looks like you can fit more than one small town there.
Avian noises - One of my neighbors raises fighting cocks which he can legally sell on the Indian reservation just across the border in Oklahoma. So you can imagine the noises that emanate from his place all of the time. Roosters don't just crow in the morning. We cannot hear them inside the house due to the insulated walls and windows. I don't approve of the sport myself, but what he's doing is completely legal. He can't fight, train or sell them in Texas but he can raise them. They're simply considered roosters. Transporting them over the border is a murky legal matter, but he goes directly onto the reservation and he's never been stopped or questioned. Years ago when the sport was still legal in Texas, we were treated to a 2-3 times a year parade of pick-up trucks headed back to his place for "exhibitions". The hooting and hollering went on late into the night. He made a lot of money from the $25 entry fee for spectators. Made plenty more from buyers later on.

Today is Purple Heart Day.
Everybody have a wonderful day. Stay cool.

Good evening. It's sunny and 92.
I have an Amazon account, and have several things I use regularly delivered as a subscription. Today, Amazon delivered two items in a single box to my place. When I got home, the box was gone. While there have been several things misdelivered, this one has a clear photo of my front door with the box sitting there.
I'm not going to jump to conclusions, though I hope it's not my new clueless neighbor that has decided to help himself.
Amazon is sending replacements, and if it happens again, I may have to make different arrangements for my package deliveries.

Willie: No one here is going to dispute that. ;) It only gets worse.

Reprieve: The HOA parking policy is "temporarily" rescinded, and the signs are coming down, (for now). Wonder whose toes they stepped on?

House Search: First search zone, South, South Jersey, followed by Slower, Lower Delaware. Then work our way down to Tidewater or further South if necessary.

Back from taking mom to the ophthalmologist for her Mac-degen shots

She forgot it was today, and was off doing her laundry when I arrived. We made it in time, but were one of the last appointments of the day.

Family Friend medical update: (this is Sis-in-law's longtime roomie)... she's trying to get on the liver transplant list, and is scheduled for final eval in about 5 weeks. She'll have to travel to IU Med Center in Indianapolis for that.

Until then, local docs are trying to keep her liver functioning. Today was a not-quite hail mary operation. They needed to bridge both sides of the liver, and "increase" functionality. Did this by going down the carotid artery in her neck and putting in little coil shunts to open up passageways. The docs lost count of how many they put in, she's that poorly.

Out of surgery. Waiting on further updates.

This should help her body not retain so many fluids. She's gained almost 20 lbs of "water weight" in the last 6 weeks and barely eats.

The downside is that this slows the removal of ammonia from her blood, and that definitely affects her mental abilities. She's been known to try to microwave those disposable handwarmer sacks (the type you expose to air and shake to get warm) when her brain isn't firing on half of its cylinders. That required SIL to get a new microwave. Those handwarmer sacks melt and catch fire when microwaved.

So we're all supposed to make sure that she doesn't drive, and question everything roomie asks for. SIL is unplugging the microwave tomorrow before Roomie comes home.

Been a busy day for me but I’m hungry and Flo said only she’s had 1 tipper in 7 hours. I would like a grilled cheese/tomato panini please on sourdough and an extra iced DDP!

The SIL can’t make it to install art work so my evening is free. The lady of the house, the daughter and the 2 grandkids are out riding. It is a beautiful evening. They will be back in time to frolic in the pool.

I’m exhausted and basically I just drove the car looking for lamps and end tables. Found the tables around 11AM but did we buy them? Heck no! We kept looking and after 6 more stores we went back to the 1st place and I put them in the daughter’s SUV. Totally ridiculous but I just went along with the program. I did find some lamps but was told no. Found the same lamps online and she is thinking those might be nice.

Flo, another DDP and yes thank you for reminding me it has caffeine!

After a few months of being without I ordered a replacement dehydrator for help drying the models, especially the oils. It should be here tomorrow. My small refrigerator I have had for 25+ years gave up the ghost on the 2 mile ride over to the new place. Plugged it in and nothing. Plugged a test light into both sockets and it lit up. Best Buy wants $25 for recycling and $10 for pick up. I will give the local recycling center $10 and drop it off myself!

I also finally broke down and ordered some track. Code 83 for the main and sidings and I will re-use my hand laid code 70 everywhere else. I am going to try Walthers new stuff. I haven’t used any flex on ( except for 1 staging yard) the last 3 layouts just the hand-laid code 70. It should mean getting the main laid quicker. The code 83 turnouts will be handlaid kits from Oak Hill Model Railroad Track Supply. I have 2 of kits for #12 turnouts built and they are gorgeous. The 12’s are monstrous size so #8’s will do on the main and 6’s everywhere else.
