Good Morning!

The past days have been very hot, and very busy. It don't look like it's going to get any more peaceful in the coming days, as my son is getting married in my backyard on Saturday. That means I'll be busy as ell getting the yard looking good. The wife is out there right now, working on her flowers and making the place weed free.
Lots of visitors coming, with some staying over the weekend. It's going to be a nightmare for a grouchy old man who just wants to be left alone.

We were out picking blue-berries again, on what I'm calling helicopter day. I got photos of 3 different helicopters committed to various duties, all in the same area. Here's a few photos:

One was spraying, one was dropping people off in the bush, and one was inspecting.
We travelled to those blueberry cut-blocks, as I was hoping to get photos of grizzly. The numerous choppers in the area ensured no grizzlies were going to be showing their face. So, grizzly photos will have to wait for another day.

Well, I can't hang around. Need to go make the yard look nice for the wedding.

Have a great day!

Every time I see a helicopter..... a tune comes to my head...... the song/soundtrack of the opening for the old TV hit series "Airwolf" my all time favorite show during the 80's.

The steroid shot reduces the inflammation of the spinal cord thus providing relief from the stab of the bone spurs. The pressure was pinching the cord to less than half its size in three vertebra.

Not sure about spinal injections, but the steroid injections I get in my knee contain both lidocaine and a steroid. The instant relief is from the lidocaine. The steroid is longer lasting but not as effective as the immediate relief the lidocaine provides.

Speaking of concrete bunkers.... that's my writing and train cave. Our place is small enough that wifi is not an issue in the place.

But Cell Reception is.

Any of you tech gurus have a recommendation for a Cell extender? We're on AT&T cell if that makes a difference. (Ad for inspiration only)

First: What genre are you targeting?
Second: Is this a project of love? One and Done? Or do you want to succeed with it?

I'll respond to the rest later as needed -- have help today on finishing the take down of bracing and clean up of house work site and need to go.

But for these:

1. genre: More action adventure. Think Edgar Rice Burroughs or any other action adventure.

2. More of a bucket list -- I want to do that. Not trying to get rich or leave my day job. Obviously I'd put it out there for others to enjoy, or not. But the motivation is personal satisfaction. Same reason I flirt with music composition (across my life, not actively doing that now).

Good morning peeps!

I will be brief......working in the office at the moment but will be off tomorrow for a long weekend. I have many chores to do and I am already prepping for the fall/winter months. I plan on using my Labor Day weekend for an all assault on my 2 car garage clean out and re-organization. I will have 4 days to do this project! I am actually looking forward to it!

This Saturday I will go out on the boat as much needed RNR to fish on Lake Champlain. I will launch up at Port Henry just north of Crown Point.

I have one covered hopper left that is due in this weekend. 2 came in yesterday. I am just about at my limit on covered hoppers. Just looking for a few more 2 bay covered hoppers that are old fallen flags acquired by Union Pacific. These will be used for my JR's Big Stones Aggregate Company on my layout which will sell all kinds of aggregates and sand etc. I already have the buildings and conveyor system kits etc. Looking to get another conveyor. I also have a pit and ramp kit too.

Anyways I am looking forward to getting in the train room soon to make huge strides of progress. As I posted about Micro Engineering I am also a buyer of their products. I bought all of my switches for the yard in ME code 83. All my flex is code 83. Some tracks are Atlas but everything is code 83. I will be glad to rid of my temporary EZ track and lay down all the new cork and tracks soon.

I have a line on a few more passenger equipment for my Big Boy and my E units. I also have been putting together the freight cars that the Big Boy pulled too.....and yup they were all 2 bay covered hoppers! I had at one point the correct caboose I ordered and won on ebay. That thing was shipped with a tracking number and well I never got it. USPS people lost it supposedly or it was somehow stolen. The seller supposedly went to the postmaster general at the office as I am told. So no luck. I hope to find another one but unlikely. We shall see. I was refunded but I am quite suspicious of that activity. I think I was skunked on it because it was a low bid and could have or should have fetched at least 50 bucks and I won it for 16 bucks....ya so that's that.

Well back to work! As TomO mentioned I saw a few things thinking he may have missed it so I alerted him. I am always and constantly looking for deals. I am savvy that way. I will be sending a few cars soon his way. Stay tuned!

Later!

Another thought that needs to be out NOW, and not after you spend money on it.

DO NOT hire a publisher.

Publishers pay YOU, not the other way around. (And they are almost all mega-corporate-conglomerates now... I'll stick with Indie publishing).

But, you can easily find Publishers that will take any author and tell them nice things. Those are called Vanity publishers. Their clients are vain and want a book published. So the want-to-be authors pay 10K+ or much more to get their book "published"

With Amazon, you can do all that the vanity "publishers" do yourself for mere pennies.

The expense is in the cover design, and editing. Vanity publishers do those in-house and they look like it. You'll get better results dealing with independent pros you pay yourself.

Amazon will even print copies on demand and ship them to you at a substantial discount over list. And you control everything except Amazon's little whims.

Speaking of the 80's, that is my lost decade.

I relocated to Warroad, Minnesota in October 1980 and it took until January of 1992 to raise enough money to get out.

That was the era of those massive satellite TV receivers, which I could not afford. We had one TV channel, Canadian hockey.

There was one radio station Winnipeg Manitoba.

Saturday night I could pull in WLS out of Chicago.

It was also the decade of real inflation.

Anyway, things are better now. Hard to believe I just said that, but true.

It is unfortunate that only people in their 50's or older (OK, maybe late 40s) really understand what it's like to live during a recession.

Nobody who is "young" these days can remember 11% mortgage rates... How about 18% car loans? I remember being grateful that I had a whole life insurance policy from which I could draw a loan at 8%... that was an amazingly attractive interest rate back then.

Just a couple years ago, mortgage rates were less than 2%. Back in the 80's companies would offer a 2% discount if a company paid within 10 days rather than waiting 30 days (remember "2%/10, net 30" terms?). That's becasue the seller would rather eat 2% on the sale than pay interest on a revolving loan for the other 20 days (after the 10).

Edit again... I remember using a "rule of thumb" cost of capital at 15%. And that was in the late 90s, after we had come a long way. A few years ago, the cost of capital was below 5%.

Two things for your viewing pleasure:

The gutter monkeys made it in to my patio to get measurements. Watching them from the basement via the Ring doorbell camera:

And when I was in college in the 80s, racking up some of that college debt when college was still cheap, this song was popular in our dorm one season... And, you know how boys with stereos are... we all had to try to outdo each other with volume...

Just in my world... star wars is great, Star Trek is phenomenal, what little girl did not fancy Captain Kirk, even though he is a short arse, loved the latest lot, McCoy, mmm mmm, the loss of ‘Russian’ I think he died in a strange car accident ran over by his own car., but he aced it. the first inter race kiss. The aliens, and the fact that Star trek concepts for techie kit which inspired engineers to make it….awesome.

Edit = apologies…techie concepts - Star Trek not Star Wars, unless anyone knows different

Sci fi is awesome
Dr Who used to scare the pants off me, hid under the sofa, banged my head when anything jumped out….lol

Unfortunately the last series was too weird to watch, I did not mind a female as such just stupid story line, I will look at the ’new’ doctor when he arrives but hold my opinion until I see how the story line starts off, I watched 3 of the female doctor before stopping watching with utmost disgust, shame as she is a decent actress.

but the classics are awesome, Dalek in Santa hats, |bess the car, the maggots from the underground scared the bejesus out of me,cybermen, TARDIS, even watching the old kit which is now decidedly dated is still fun.

fitting it onto your railway layout…awesome….and there is tonnes of railway links to Dr Who wooo hoooo.

The whole Star Wars concept was hard for me to get into simply because it was supposed to be set in a time long ago. How could there be intergalactic travel that long ago by so many alen races, yet today, we still are alone. At least with Star Trek, it was us that had the technology to go seek out new worlds. And whenever we net superior alien races, they were either benevolent, or only a threat until Kirk kicked their butts.
