Her biggest thing was that no food to be served on a tray

Tom: That is a really great idea to avoid eating off of food trays. Seems like most trays are simply wiped off with a towel that been treated with a disinfectant or soap and that's "it" for cleaning. Who knows how many people have eaten or handled the tray before your use of the tray to carry food to your table.

Food trays should be rinsed, washed in a machine with a disinfectant and the rinsed at 183 degrees F. and left to air dry, a process many food vendors skip.

Boris, best to you on your test. Terry’s was the treadmill. My last one was the chemically induced.

Tom O.
FWIW, the test was inconclusive, because I never got my heart rate up to what they were looking for. It was on a treadmill, and I was doing fine until I reached a point where my legs turned to rubber, and I stepped off. It was an Echo Stress test, with before and after photos of the heart. Not knowing much about the inner workings, even I could see one valve was narrower than the other three. Results: I did get my appointment with my new cardiologist moved up from Oct 21 to September 21, but for now, status quo. Note: I have no real cardio symptoms other than occasional indigestion brought on by a Hiatal Hernia, and occasional high blood pressure. Even my recent EKG was normal. Yet the CT Scans both showed a problem. If it wasn't for those tests, and the ability to share those results with my retiring cardiologist, they wouldn't have found this until...

Garry:
Neat photos of the tunnel motors.

Guy:
That Grizzly is not someone I would want to encounter in the woods.

Steve J: First point. I have not had any success with the between rail magnets on code 70 track. The permanent magnets are more powerful, and work too well. Second point. I like your yard and terminal plan enough to take a screen shot of it, for future reference. (Might add that most of my layout is Micro Engineering Code 70.

Doug Bartle photo of E8 locomotives repainted in 5 stripe scheme, on #10 track at Harrisburg PA station in 1986. Tracks 11 and 12 in background are by this time 1 and 2 Royalton Branch on Conrail. Not sure who owned this pair, but they are not the Conrail OCS power, later restored to PRR 1958 livery by Bennett Levin.

Uncredited slide of PRR Broadway Limited #29 arriving Chicago in 1966. Timeline developed by noting the diesels were painted / numbered in the 1966 scheme, Trainphone antennas had been removed from the rooftops of two of the three units in the consist, and the first car was a lightweight BM85 RPO/Baggage car rebuilt from a ACF baggage dormitory.

Good afternoon Everyone out there in model railroad land. Perfect day this morning and we took Riley to the local dog park where she ran loose for an hour and played with many other people and canines. She behaved very well and came on command most of the time.

Southeastern Wisconsin is recovering from high winds and storms that hit on Tuesday evening. High winds up to 75 mph came through the area leaving some 225,000 WEnergies customers without power, some still without power and the ductility believes that by Saturday all customers will have electrical power. Worst outage in the company's history. Luck we avoided power outages or damage from the storm.

First of all I model in HO scale, but have you tried or are you removing ties to install the magnets? This may solve your problem of the magnets being too strong.

Sad to hear that 2021 TrainfFest in Milwaukee has been cancelled again. I'll miss the show and a lot of people put a lot of effort in the planning, setup and operating the large model railroad show. I thank all of the volunteers to help make TrainFest possible.

Going to watch cab ride videos this afternoon.

That's all folks for now.................

Afternoon All,

Spent the day at Dad's and we went out to lunch before watching a couple of episodes of Murdoch Mysteries. It's an exciting life. Tomorrow I'm visiting with several MRR friends in Orlando. I haven't been able to see them in several months. Afterwards I'll stop by the LHS and pick up some static grass to start experimenting with.

Joe- Nice motive power photos.

I hope everyone has a good night.

are you removing ties to install the magnets?

Greg: I remove ties to install the between rail magnets, apparently, they are too low, because I don't get a lot of reaction from them especially with Kadee 58s. If I set them on the ties (as recommended for code 83), they tend to rub up against low clearance items. The 508 magnets have a piece of metal to amplify the strength of the magnets they go under the track vs. between the ties. It's not really an issue as I either use a Kadee uncoupling tool or a skewer to uncouple in most cases. The 508s are intended for out of reach locations. ( like inside industries).

watching a couple of episodes of Murdoch Mysteries.

Curt: Actually found someone else that watches them ;) They develop some interesting story lines. Thanks for the complement on the photos.

Just returned from my trip to watch UP 4014 pass through the nearby city of Denton TX. OK, whoever posted that it was always on time was led astray! It was supposed to arrive at 5:00 pm and stay 30 minutes. NOT! It arrived almost two hours late at 6:55 and stayed only ten minutes. I knew that it would be late when first a NB and then 2 SB freight trains passed our location between 5:00 and 6:35. Still a sight to behold. I took about 55 pictures, most of which are OK. Some are of the passing freights because I was bored. Here are a few pictures that are notable.

I did manage one souvenir.
IMG_7238.JPG

I could not get an overall shot due to the crowd on the grade crossing which was the only place that I could stand back far enough.
One AWESOME machine.

Good evening ..

Guy ..... Based on your pictures of CN locomotives, I suspect you are located a very long way from the paint shop ! :)

Joe .... The PRR E8's look good.

Willie ..... I'm glad you saw 4014 . Thanks for posting pictures. Interesting to see the engineer had a bullhorn.

Everybody .... Have a good evening.

Good Evening all! A rather pleasant night out. Still humid so the feel like temp is up some but without the sun beating down it ain't bad.
Flo - You don't suppose there's any chicken fried steak left? Never heard of chicken fried steak when I was a yankee 58 years ago.
I managed to finish the assembly of Old Dominion Broom Co. I placed it on the layout where I think it's going to go. Obviously ground cover needs to be applied.
Old Dominion Broom Co-4.jpg

Boris - love the E8 photo
Greg - I use Kato track, the magnetic uncoupler tracks work well on most of my stuff with exception of Broadway Limited engines and cars. Even though all are set with a gauge, something about the BLI couplers make them hit and miss.
Raboliot - I vote for changing the switches. Watching a model train work, it's calming.

STAY SAFE

LATER

Raboliot - I vote for changing the switches.
Me too !
I recently bought a very nice Bachmann GP40 and I'm very happy with my purchase.
Unfortunately, it can't run on my last switching layout because all the turnouts are too small, too tight or too short.
I want to do switching operations with my new loco. I need new turnouts. What's the best choice: #5 or #6 ?
Thanks for your help.

Good Morning!
Not quite daylight yet, but, it does look like there will be smoke in the air again. Yesterday, we were spared the smoke due to high winds over the last few days.
It's only 58F right now, but, we are headed up into the high eighties, which is still a bit warm for my liking. I'm a 60 degree human, in more ways than one.

The wife has put me on a Hummingbird photo taking mission. She wants me to get as many pics of the birds as I can, before they fly south.
Knowing that the birds will be leaving sometime later this month, I've been perched in the backyard with the camera on a tripod. Dosen't bother me, I enjoy sitting in the backyard taking photos. Yesterday, I managed 17 photos of the Calliope Hummingbird, which is the smallest bird in North America. Here is one of the photos taken yesterday:
Calliope_08-13-2021 (1).jpg

The bird looks big in the photo, but, it's about the size of a golf ball in real life. And it's fast; it can be very difficult to take good pics of. I'm trying to out-think it, and focus on where I believe it will go next.

Can only stay in the shop for a coffee, and then I need to get on with things. The dog needs walking and I have to pick up the dog-crap in the backyard. I'm trying to train her to poop in the forest during our walks, but, she wants to use the opportunity to explore instead. She's still very young; a seven year old in our time.

Thanks for all the likes on my post of yesterday.
Today, I'm going to post a few repeat photos. I was going through my photo collection yesterday, and I picked out a few that are my favorites. Not that they are great photographically, rather, I just really like them. I feel blessed that I was able to get photos like these.
Here are a few of my favorite photos, for all kinds of different reasons:

Well folks, that's it. I feel the need to get on with things; so have a great day and I'll see ya'll later!

Good Morning All. It's clear and an incredibly cool 74° right now, only expecting a high today of 89° as the winds shifted out of the north a few hours ago. Thunderstorms are back in today's forecast, they're hovering on the other side of the Red River in Oklahoma right now, about 30 miles away. Depending on the weather conditions here today, I might do some preemptive mowing or not. The only part of the yard that needs it is the part of the "back 40" that I didn't do last week.

Thanks for the many likes and comments regarding the weed tutorial and the 4014 pictures yesterday; Rick, Gary, Karl, Guy, Tom O, Christian, Hughie, Tom, James, Joe, Chad, Garry, Troy.

Flo gave me a like yesterday for the tip that I left her, thanks. Today I would like a BLT sandwich with extra bacon, and a sugar free A&W root beer to go with it.

For my next project out in the train shed, I reverted to one of my favorite things, building a laser-cut wood structure. This one is from Blair Line, a rather simple one called Blairstown General Store.
IMG_7150.JPG

I started this Thursday.
IMG_7163.JPG

I primed it and started assembly.
IMG_7178.JPG

It already has a home om the layout.
Today I should finish assembly of the remaining walls and the roof. I want to give it another coat of white paint, but I ran out!!! I intended to purchase some more after the train watching yesterday, but due to the delay, I had missed cocktail hour and was very late for supper. That took priority over going into the dreaded Walmart. Besides I later realized that I hadn't taken any money, credit cards or ID with me! I am not sure if I will go back to town before next Thursday's grocery trek. I may just use brush on paint instead of spray cans.

Guy - Yes, the Perseid meteor shower was rather significant here on Wednesday night, but clouds obscured it afterwards. As far as a shower goes, at best I have seen maybe a meteor a minute this time and in good times in the past. I assume that the satellites were part of Elon Musk's Starlink satellite parade. I think that it unnecessarily clutters up the night sky. So do others. I read that he will be painting them black in the near future due to the complaints from astronomers. I believe that the last time that I read, 1800 of an estimated 12,000 are already in orbit.
Karl -
we have a very popular Republican Governor and a heavily Democratic General Assembly and the sparring between them borders on the ridiculous at times.
Not too sure it can get more ridiculous than the minority party here in Texas abandoning their elected duties! They're all up there near you getting arrested!
Garry - What a wonderful anniversary to be celebrating.
The engineer had a bullhorn to address the crowd and advise them to get back when he was about to start up again. He did an excellent job of running the engine, as very little black smoke was emitted from the stack. I've read that that is a good sign. The cab was obviously crowded with six people (that I saw) in there. Here's the engineer perched on the tender ladder taking movies of the crowd. Note that the fellow in the seat behind his replaced the employee in the arrival pictures. I guess that the guy in the black shirt ended his shift...or moved to the other side.
IMG_7221.JPG

It stopped in the middle of the grade crossing so the on-ground workers had an easier time performing their inspections. Police had blocked all of the grade crossings around 4:30.
Hughie - By the way, 4014 will arrive in Houston Monday night and be on display all day Tuesday before leaving Wednesday morning for New Orleans. Today it is spending the entire day on display in Ft Worth. Schedule here.
Gary - The crowd was actually smaller than I anticipated, maybe 2500. It actually thinned down a bit as we waited, as couples with baby strollers, and some older folks left. I stood in 95° heat for 2 1/2 hours, fortunately I was in the shade with a very slight breeze. From my vantage point I did see two persons leave with EMS crews in ambulances.
Here is the trailing diesel in the consist
IMG_7224.JPG
IMG_7225.JPG

I noticed in this and all of the diesels in the three freights that passed by, that the windows were open! I guess that UP doesn't air condition their cabs.

Today is VJ day, in honor of the victory over Japan in WWII. That was a few years before I was born. Today is also National Bowling Day, I wonder where Chet is today?
Thunderstorms still haven't moved south yet, sun is shining.
Everybody have a great day and weekend.
