Dakota- Nice looking loco. I have bought large number boards (brass) from Cal Scale, painted them then applied a decal (black with white numbers) f
Uh.. yes? I just don't know how I should handle the number boards, honestly. I'd like the option to light them later, at least, if not right away. Not sure if that means I can paint the parts which do not have numbering, or if I should find decal stuff specific for that purpose.
I have plenty of decals for both lit and unlit boards, it's the blank space holding me up.

DL Steve- are you going to leave the patch out just on the cab, our are you to patch out the engine from NP to BN, as well? Looks good so far.
Yes. It is as patched as the real unit was, although I goofed and gave it the wrong number, really. My model has the 'simplified' NP paint scheme, where my prototype had the more elaborate paint and was not simplified before BN. I may switch to a different loco, maybe.

4196 stuck with me because it retained the fancy NP bell. I love those flavor details on BN stuff.

Good morning everyone ! happy Friday with a big breakfast this morning - eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast....with lots of coffee !
Humid here in Halifax, but shaping up to be really nice weather over the next few days last I checked.
Hope you all have a great day and a great upcoming weekend !

Good Morning All. Happy Friday the 13th. Clear and 77°, maybe going to 97° today, kind of a repeat of yesterday. Well, the NWS has put thunderstorms back into the forecast for tomorrow as well as tacking Tuesday on to a four day event. We shall see!!! Due to the sun's retreat in a southward direction, and the greater than average cloud cover lately, parts of the pool are shaded more, keeping the temperature reasonable, although it has risen to 85°. Still cooler than the air in the evening and warmer than the air at dawn.
Grocery trek went OK yesterday, with a little excitement when a Kroger personal shopper dropped a jar of olives on the floor. She then proceeded to cut herself and bled all over the floor while moving the broken glass out of the center of the aisle, which necessitated a manager and a custodian to come to the rescue.

Good morning Flo. I'll take a pair of breakfast burritos with sausage, egg, potato and cheese this fine day. Spicy salsa and OJ to go with it.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I cleared the figure painting stuff off the workbench for now in order to work on a new project. More on that later, as I am up against my picture per post limit. Meanwhile here is one of the vehicles that I upgraded Wednesday. This is a Mini Metals model of a '57 Chevy septic tank cleaning truck. After dull coating it, I simply added the rear view mirrors, license plates and a driver to it.

Steve J - In regards to your question regarding the uncoupling magnets. Leave them out. For realistic operations, pull on to the top track and uncouple there. Then use the runaround track to get to the other end and pull the cut of cars out and then back them in to one of the other tracks.
Tom O -
She is like a new woman with the good news.
Good for her. I think that we all breathe a deep sigh of relief after a good medical test. I sure do.
Jaz - Sometimes in order to get action figures, I occasionally have to do a little reconstructive surgery on figures.

From yesterday:
Steve -
How are you intended to use that field grass? I've never understood it.
I use the field grass to simulate what's known here as Johnson Grass. It's a popular weed in this part of the US

I take a mixture of colors and form a "rope".
IMG_7164.JPG

I fiddle with them a bit until they are intermixed a bit like they are in nature.
IMG_7166.JPG

I then fiddle a bit more until I get the ends in an uneven pattern.
IMG_7176.JPG

Then holding about 1/4" between my fingers I snip off evenly with a very sharp pair of scissors.
I dip the cut end into a pool of Elmer's White Glue and then place the tuft on the layout where I want it.
IMG_7168.JPG

IMG_7170.JPG

You can also put a spot of glue on the layout and just insert the tuft in place. I just prefer dipping into the glue.
Here's part of a scene that I did earlier.
IMG_7174.JPG

Or this.
IMG_7172.JPG

Occasionally after the glue dries, some trimming is necessary.

Watching the broken jar incident at Kroger yesterday reminded me of my working days. At one time the custodians indirectly worked for me and I had to train them (with a translator) in "Biological Safety". Basically cleaning up blood and bodily wastes. It further reminded me of an older middle-aged female custodian who was cleaning a men's restroom one afternoon. Someone else reported that a much younger male employee purposely exposed himself to her. She did not report the incident, but I had to investigate based on the other employees report. When I asked why she didn't report it and whether she offended, she replied in Spanish, "Hell no I wasn't offended, I was impressed!" Since she never filed a complaint, the male employee got off with a warning and three-day suspension instead of more serious consequences.

Today's the day that UP 4014 Big Boy comes through this part of the world. I'll be there.
Everybody have a great day and an awesome weekend.

Just a little plug for our local economy to those that might want to spend a night in a real caboose and visit a beautiful part of the Maritimes. We visited the Tatamagouche railroad museum during our vacation and it was awesome!

Good Morning!
Another heat wave is settling in, with temperatures going to be near 90F. Supposed to be 3 days worth of misery.

I heard reports that there was supposed to be some kind of meteor shower overnight. So, I went outside in the dark and looked up. I saw 5-6 meteors streak by, but, wouldn't call it a shower. They were spaced out very well. - But, I did notice there seemed to be a satellite shower. Lots of satellites up there. Found myself wishing I was up somewhere on the Alaska Highway, where you can really see the Milky-Way colors. To many lights in town for a decent look.
It wasn't until this morning that I realized it was Friday the 13th. If I'd known that, I would have wore the tinfoil helmet out there.

I keep an old roll of 35mm film around that I cut up and use as a backboard where I need a dark, transparent back-board. You can cut a bit off an old exposed and processed negative if you need it washed. - That might work for you.

It's another one coffee day, and then hit the road. Times are busy.

I did go downtown for some building material shopping, where I noticed a couple of engines sitting idle from afar:

Those are a couple of new switchers CN replaced the other two with. Must have taken the old ones in for servicing; seems they do that about once a month.
At first, I thought 5262 was a GP38. I soon found out they are both GP40-2w's.
I did walk in for a closer look, and to scoop some photos.

I took 15 photos in total. Then went onto shopping.

And, that's all the time I have to be here. The rest of the world is calling.
Have a good one!

Good finally a cool morning from So. Central Wisconsin. It is a glorious 63f degrees, it is dry with little humidity and a breeze of 2mph. We may hit 80 for a high. This feels great. Supposedly this is our weather pattern for the next 7 days.

Covid is the huge topic on the TV news again. For some reason I sat with the sister and Terry watching before dinner last night. Rates of infection are on the raise every where but the medical interviews were mainly that if you are not vaccinated you are much more likely to be hospitalized then if you were vaccinated.

The son in Austin says his contractor lost a couple jobs so started the framing early. They told him his materials are locked in a trailer that they return to the warehouse daily as they were getting too much stolen if left overnight on the jobsite. Brian’s neighbor was there yesterday talking to the contractor that the trailer would be safe there as the double ought will protect it! Iguess that is a shot gun shell size.

The girls are out riding with some of the daughter’s neighbors. The daughter and family are up again in fabulous to them Door County, Wi. They also stopped at the GB Packers practice yesterday and had a great time. Here is the 7 year old g/son and 10 year old g/d. And yes, Mr. Diva ArRon Rodgers was practicing but the SIL said his throne was not on the sidelines

Not sure what today has in store for us. I know the landscaper is coming today to replace the trees lost in the EF0 tornado from 2 weeks ago. The SIL crews are finished cutting grass so all are back to cutting trees on the property. Over the last 3 weeks of storms the SIL says we must have lost a thousand trees. All I know is the firewood piles are growing, they decided to separate by species.

Off for my swim and some time is needed at the workbench. Enjoy your day.

Where is it ? I can't find it on a map. 😀

I like Willie's explanation, but for me its my local, 100 miles north of the nations capitol , where we have a very popular Republican Governor and a heavily Democratic General Assembly and the sparring between them borders on the ridiculous at times. 1st time I heard the term "Absurdistan" was by the late Ron Smith, former local TV anchor turned radio host on WBAL a.k.a the Voice of Reason. Probably the most sane person I ever heard on the radio. May he rest in peace.

Howdy ....

Today is August 13, and I have much to be thankful for. On this date in 2008, I had serious heart issues. I was flown by helicopter to the hospital in Nashville, TN. My heart stopped beating 6 times. Thankfully, I already had an implantted difibrillator which saved me each time. I have had congestive heart failure now for about 20 years. Also thankfully, doctors have been able to control my condition, and my life is mostly normal. Life is precious.

Everybody ...... Have a good day. :)

JazzDad,
Funny you mentioned that, when I went on mine two weeks ago, chipped windshield and flat tire thanks to a nice sharp screw within an hour of each other on our first travel day......luckily I had just passed a tire shop that had me fixed up in roughly an hour. I feel your pain, but not quite as much a price tag with my repairs.

Hello global modelers.

After the swim I walked out to the guys replacing the trees. I asked the lady foreman why the replacements were much larger then the originals. She said they had used all those up in replacements from the July storms. So instead of waiting for replacements at the nursery we are getting much bigger more mature trees and I must say they look great. She said the landscape owner will stop by around noon.

guy, those are great locomotive pictures
