Good Morning All. Happy Friday the 13th. Clear and 77°, maybe going to 97° today, kind of a repeat of yesterday. Well, the NWS has put thunderstorms back into the forecast for tomorrow as well as tacking Tuesday on to a four day event. We shall see!!! Due to the sun's retreat in a southward direction, and the greater than average cloud cover lately, parts of the pool are shaded more, keeping the temperature reasonable, although it has risen to 85°. Still cooler than the air in the evening and warmer than the air at dawn.
Grocery trek went OK yesterday, with a little excitement when a Kroger personal shopper dropped a jar of olives on the floor. She then proceeded to cut herself and bled all over the floor while moving the broken glass out of the center of the aisle, which necessitated a manager and a custodian to come to the rescue.
Good morning Flo. I'll take a pair of breakfast burritos with sausage, egg, potato and cheese this fine day. Spicy salsa and OJ to go with it.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I cleared the figure painting stuff off the workbench for now in order to work on a new project. More on that later, as I am up against my picture per post limit. Meanwhile here is one of the vehicles that I upgraded Wednesday. This is a Mini Metals model of a '57 Chevy septic tank cleaning truck. After dull coating it, I simply added the rear view mirrors, license plates and a driver to it.
Steve J - In regards to your question regarding the uncoupling magnets. Leave them out. For realistic operations, pull on to the top track and uncouple there. Then use the runaround track to get to the other end and pull the cut of cars out and then back them in to one of the other tracks.
Tom O -
She is like a new woman with the good news.
Good for her. I think that we all breathe a deep sigh of relief after a good medical test. I sure do.
Jaz - Sometimes in order to get action figures, I occasionally have to do a little reconstructive surgery on figures.
From yesterday:
Steve -
How are you intended to use that field grass? I've never understood it.
I use the field grass to simulate what's known here as Johnson Grass. It's a popular weed in this part of the US
I take a mixture of colors and form a "rope".
I fiddle with them a bit until they are intermixed a bit like they are in nature.
I then fiddle a bit more until I get the ends in an uneven pattern.
Then holding about 1/4" between my fingers I snip off evenly with a
very sharp pair of scissors.
I dip the cut end into a pool of Elmer's White Glue and then place the tuft on the layout where I want it.
You can also put a spot of glue on the layout and just insert the tuft in place. I just prefer dipping into the glue.
Here's part of a scene that I did earlier.
Or this.
Occasionally after the glue dries, some trimming is necessary.
Watching the broken jar incident at Kroger yesterday reminded me of my working days. At one time the custodians indirectly worked for me and I had to train them (with a translator) in "Biological Safety". Basically cleaning up blood and bodily wastes. It further reminded me of an older middle-aged female custodian who was cleaning a men's restroom one afternoon. Someone else reported that a much younger male employee purposely exposed himself to her. She did not report the incident, but I had to investigate based on the other employees report. When I asked why she didn't report it and whether she offended, she replied in Spanish, "Hell no I wasn't offended, I was impressed!" Since
she never filed a complaint, the male employee got off with a warning and three-day suspension instead of more serious consequences.
Today's the day that UP 4014 Big Boy comes through this part of the world. I'll be there.
Everybody have a great day and an awesome weekend.
