John, I have an older Mac Pro I may try Zorin on. I currently have Windows 10 and Mac OS on partitions,so I should be able to add a third partition and give it a test drive.
Terry: Most Linux spins have a 'live CD'. Pop it in and boot off of it for a test drive. No need to go through the loading part. Does not ( should not ) do anything to your existing files on the hard drive. Most, if not all also allow you to 'install' if you like it. You also should be able to try the different 'desktops' that are available. Makes it easier to test drive different spins too...

Most “modern” Macs don’t have a drive for physical media, and this is no exception. It’s a Trash Can Mac. I wonder it I can rig up a USB to simulate a disc drive?

Good morning to all you “earl” changers out there. I had a high school girlfriend that always wanted her oil checked. Just saying…

So Central Wisconsin has cooled down. 46 now maybe 52f degrees later. The rain, the lightning and thunder rolled through between 4 and 5:30 this morning. The text message suggested we not walk this morning at 6 with the text coming a few minutes after 5. At 6 it was nice, the ground was wet but no rain falling and the WeatherChannel app and the local radar showed the weather event had passed us till the next one at 10 this morning. I walked the 3 mile route alone. Seemed like it took forever and it was slower but 50 minutes is ok. I’ve hit the showers and ready for today.

I am working on a intermodal order again today. I didn’t accomplish as much as I hoped yesterday before I spent most of the afternoon on the south deck. I relaxed out there and started twisting some wire armatures. I got 10 done the other night before my twisting jig broke. Yesterday I went back to a method I have used before. A portable vise clamp and my drill. I did 90 yesterday before I had to leave at 4:15 for the grandson’s hockey game. He played well in his team 6-1 win. He got the 1st goal of the night based on his strong skating, strength and hustle. It was good to see. Same teams next Wednesday and it will be interesting. The referees didn’t seem to care how rough the game was played and it boiled over at the final buzzer.

Tonight after dinner out we go to a 8 violin concert/show with a modern twist. Something different for us but hopefully enjoyable.

Enjoy the day

Not well versed with a Mac, so YMMV.

2 ways, 1st is get a USB dvd/cdrom drive - $35 last time I got one. Simplest way, no muss no fuss. Even better if the Mac can create an ISO from download.

2nd, hoop jump. Create a boot USB using instructions on how to do that in/on the OS site. Probably need to find 'rufus.exe' ( Now version 4.6 ) and use that to create the boot usb, then to copy the needed files. Sometimes this is frustrating so be prepared!

Good morning,

41f and cloudy, heading for 61. Cold cereal for breakfast today, maybe have a couple eggs and toast later.

Working on signing up for medicare part B. Fortunately, I already had the proper login credentials set up so that part was easy. Otherwise, still waiting for some documentation from the previous employer.

I got 25' of backdrop completed and installed yesterday, should make about the same progress today. Just like everything, by about the time I am done I know what I am doing. It will be nice when the backdrop is done, I am getting anxious to get the train going around the track again, it looks like a war room in there with all the buildings moved to safe locations. I will post some pics when it is all up.

I don't think I ever had a favorite cartoon character, though I usually read some of them. For entertainment, we are presently on Season 3 of "Mission Impossible".

This marks the end of of my first full week of retirement, so far, so good.

Good morning all!

Happy Friday!

Kind of a late checkin for me. I ran down to HD this morning to grab a couple of 25 pound bags of plaster. Now that the
model railroad bug is coming back its time to get back to the mountains that were constructed last summer. Plan is to
concentrate on one area and move on from there. I have a bad habit in the past of starting scenery in several areas and
having a list of stuff that never seems to shrink.

Not a very nice day out there. Started out early this morning as a mostly sunny day, but now a steady rain is falling with a few
rumbles of thunder. only supposed to barely break 60F today. Didn't have any outdoor plans, so guess it doesn't matter.

Have a safe day everyone!

If you've got 15 minutes to spare, I found a good video on converting a couple of N-Scale snap together buildings into a decrepit old garage in a zombie apocalypse dystopian layout. I like his channel, but he's currently tearing out the old dystopian layout and starting fresh. Still, a lot of good modeling.

The vid is more SHOW, and less tell. But there are a lot of cool ideas in one small package that can easily be transferred to any industrial scene with older buildings.

I said 'No', but have done it anyway.

A while back I saw the advertisement for Manning Wardle 'L Class' locomotives. Lovely models indeed. To buy they were on 'pre-order'. I dislike pre-order, but it is the way these days. I resisted the temptation.

Late last week I received a 'final date' to pre-order the locomotive. Yes, I had to order.

A late Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 64°, should be in the mid-80's later on. NWS has removed most of the rain from the forecast that was supposed to continue through Sunday; still a slight chance tomorrow morning. I received just shy of 2" yesterday morning, all between 0600 and 0930. I now have about 2' of water in my pond, the first since it all evaporated last July. When full it's approximately 7.5' deep and covers about 1/3 acre. The frogs were out in full force last night. I don't really know where they go when it's empty.

I went on the weekly grocery trek yesterday since the rain had stopped just prior to my normal leave-out time. Wife stayed home. Traffic was not great, but moving about 15 mph lower than the limit since the roads were still wet. An accident about four miles ahead of the normal exit prompted me to exit about six miles early and trudge through town to bypass it. I took a route through the UNT campus just to see some of what remained of the old rent houses that I frequented (mine & friends), in my college days 50 years ago. Some areas have changed drastically (new apartments) while others are still frozen in the 60/70's. I normally don't use that route because there's too many bicycles in the way, which were absent due to the rain yesterday.
Last night we went out and had drinks/dinner with a friend who was celebrating her 73rd birthday. Got home late which is why I am later than usual posting this morning.

In a little bit, I have to hit the garden and pick Lettuce, Spinach and Radishes that are all ready for consumption. I doubt that I will be able to do any mowing today despite being able to hear the grass growing right now.

While I did visit the train shed yesterday, about all I did was overhaul a tank car. Somehow when originally building it, I got the two end platforms a bit "caddy-wonkered". That's a Texas phrase. The end stirups on one side were two scale feet closer than the other side. Some work with a razor blade and Exacto knife loosened the platforms and the cradles up and I was able to straighten them out. I had to redo those two anti-personnel rods that run along each side. Another small project off the list.

Troy/Louis - Regarding the "non-doctor figure" or "stone cold wacko", both descriptions that I agree with, I can only offer the following quote from noted musician and philosopher Frank Zappa; “Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.”
Dave - Counting species of birds, how cool. I see many as well, but I would lose track.
Tom O - Wow! 3 miles in 45 minutes is quite a pace. I can get 2 in that time. I have no issues with drinking water as ours is quite good. No funny tastes.
Enjoy the concert tonight. I love violin music. The more eclectic the better.
Louis - Flank steak is quite popular here in Texas, especially with our high percentage of Hispanic citizens. I buy it and make fajitas at least 15-18 times a year. Sugar-free A&W Root Beer is absolutely the tops. I went most of my life drinking only 1 or 2 soft drinks a month until I discovered it. Now I am a 1 a day person, sometimes 2.
Karl - Good luck with all of the medical stuff. As Louis posted, "Never underestimate the power of positive thinking." Or my philosophy, "Never underestimate the power of positive drinking".
Joe -
Mine too. I think you can figure out who my favorite character was / is.
Natasha???

Today is National Arbor Day. Plant some trees. Of more interest, today is also National Lingerie Day. I'll leave it at that.
Everyone have a fabulous Friday.

Good mornin' crew. TGIF.. In Cheyenne its 34 under overcast skies and drizzling rain. Winds are E @ 7. High today 40 and low tonight of 35. Precipitation last 24hrs .02" Possibility of more rain 55%. Good day to stay indoors...
Fair day yesterday. NP from doc's office called about treatment plan for anemia; IV once a month, maybe twice/month to start. Due to the UC, I don't tolerate oral iron supplements very well. Main symptom is that I feel tired out all the time. Old and worn out......
NJ(ret) has eye doc this afternoon. D#2 doing the chauffeuring which means post-doc shopping and dinner. Think I'll pass. Good inside workbench day, though. Stuff I want to do in the train shed involves either paint or adhesives, so no go there. Got another structure kit to get started on.
Thoughts and prayers for all dealing with medical and family issues.
Y'all have a good weekend and take care.

Good afternoon gang!

Truck passed emissions, visit to Bass Pro yielded 2 pairs of electric ear muffs, a bag of foam ear plugs, 10 targets and 2 pairs of range eyewear, total cost to me, $35.00. I've had gift cards for Bass Pro or Cabelas for over a year, and recently found them cleaning out my night stand. So armed with all that a trip to the county range was in order. Needless to say I have GSR on my hands and a smile on my face! We only took the new 9mm with us. Wife wants to try the new Ruger 10/22 Takedown next, but she said no way to the H&K 12 gage. Damn think kicks like a mule!

My favorite cartoon as a kid, no wonder I turned into a gear head!
