I see Cal Expo harness track is closing. What happens to all those people and horses there. There're no harness tracks around for 100's of miles that I know of.

Good morning all!

Another nice day in store. Currently 48F heading up to the mid 60s with mostly sunny skies.

Heading shopping with my wife and daughter this morning. She needs a dress for May Crowning on May 1st
Only reason I'm going is for the food. I have been told we are heading to Outback Steakhouse,
so a Blooming onion is in my future. I might drop them off and head over to Midwest Rail Junction
if there still open. Not really fond of the place as his prices are mostly at MSRP or a tad below. haven't
been there for a couple of years.

Other than that not much else going on.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good morning from Sandstone MN, 32f and sunny. 32 species of birds counted on my walk this morning, which is more than usual, possibly due in part to the perfectly calm winds.

Coffee and rice chex with a half banana.

Chad - we had tv rationing as well. Then, throughout the decade of the 80's I did not own one, mostly because I lived so rural that we only got 1 channel, it was Canadian, pretty much just hockey. We generally use our current set to watch videos of old TV series and movies from the library.

The Jetsons?

Cleanup and fun in the train shed today, maybe make a few trees, nothing too serious.

Swedish meatballs at the Pine County History Center for supper...

Later-----

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with blooming (onion) futures.

It's Troy again.

Wife says we're going out for lunch, but no Blooming Onions. Looks like Cheddars Scratch Kitchen so she can get a chicken pot pie.

Well, I got to put the new table saw to good use. Made a trip to get some 1/8 tempered hardboard for fascia. I know, I could have gotten the big box store to rip a 4x8 sheet down to 2 2x8s and ripped those. But I can easily get 2x4 ft sheets in the car. the 8 foot lengths take some extra work.

I do need to drill holes in the legs of the white folding table. It's about 3.5 in too low to be a good table extension for the saw. Since the legs on the table are adjustable in height, I just need to put a hole in each leg where I want the nipples to ummm... yeah...

Today, and lunch, and letting the wife cruise the going out of business sale at Joann Fabrics, I'll come back and start installing fascia on the upper level. I can't decide which color to paint it, though? I was thinking Conrail blue might be too blue and attention getting. I've got a fairly dark, almost Olive green I painted the basement walls with. Or I could go with the standard dark brown or black. Hmmmm.... any suggestions?

I read though it last night, interesting times we are living in!

Here's a news article where a news outlet from Tennessee talked with Shane Wilson of Scaletrains
about some similar topics.

Good morning from what through the windows is a bright Wisconsin morning. I slept till 8:15am giving me almost 8.5 hours of sleep! Still a bit groggy but I have no idea why I needed that much sleep. I did not wake at all overnight, slept right till I woke up

I have not looked the forecast for the day but I heard Terry’s evening news yesterday say warmer than yesterday I that hope puts us in the 70’s. The grandson plays soccer 1/2 mile away in the 16 field complex at noon. His team Terry says plays on the fake turf in the stadium today. The kids love that. I could already hear the cheering when I walked on the deck to upright a table that blew over last night

I have some weathering to finish on a bunch of intermodal container chassis this morning before we leave for soccer, just some touch ups. Then this afternoon or tomorrow I will work on the containers. The containers so far just have the initial clear coat with a slight fade mixed in with it.

Tariffs, the lies are getting old. Supposedly there are 200 trade deals being made! But there are not 200 countries in the world. I don’t care if there is 1 or many deals, just get something in writing so we can move on. Tells us the truth! Is the plan is a recession so the debt can be reduced or is the plan to bankrupt the US so the debt owed to others gets wiped out!

We got an invite to what is a fund raiser for Womens Hockey at the UW on May 14th. We will miss it being in Maui! Seems the $1,000,000 promised for the team last year is no longer enough for future teams. NIL, Name, image and Likeness will kill college sports. But that’s $40,000 each for the players and it’s no longer competitive to what other hockey schools are offering. A $100,000 scholarship that includes free room and a per diem plus $40,000 NIL money isn’t enough. That’s just for Women’s hockey. Football at UW has $12,000,000 in NIL money and in the Big Ten conference of the 18 teams UW is ranked 12th in NIL money! These kids should get paid but not on handshake deals, they need pay for play contracts that are open to see like MLB, NBA, NFL and the NHL.

My rants are over, enjoy your day

Geez, if he’s at MSRP that may be a super deal come May! But totally understand as I avoid buying at MSRP.

My LHS has reduced his current discounts from up to 25% daily and more on special sales days of up to 50% to 10% across the board. He’s worried if he’ll be in business next year at this time

I use from Home Depot Behr’s Wild Rice which is greenish color. It is on both the fascia and valance. IMOO Conrail blue would draw attention to the fascia and away from the scenes on the layout. But it’s all very subjective and you can always change it

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 66°, headed to 83° later on. Same as the last couple of days and the next few.

It looks like a lot of salads in our near future. The Lettuce and Spinach harvest yesterday was quite bountiful and with the current weather it will last for a while longer. I just pick the outer bigger leaves and the core continues to grow and produce a lot more; that is until the daily temperatures start to linger in the 90's. Everything else including the weeds looks really good as well.
Last night's supper of Baby Back Ribs and homemade Cole Slaw was delicious.
It never dried off enough yesterday to allow either mowing or weedeating, and parts of the yard are beginning to look like a hayfield. I did venture over to my wildflower meadow and picked another bunch of Indian Paintbrushes to decorate the house with. Gotta be careful and leave enough for Mother Nature to provide seeds for next year. They'll last for another 2-3 weeks before some of the later species take over.

I hope to be able to resume mowing today, I definitely will do trimming with the previously mentioned weedeater. In the meantime, the dishwasher waits for me.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I only ran trains once again. I need to hide the throttle for a few days so I can get back to the project list.

Mike - Great for you that the model railroad bug is coming back. Looking forward to the continued progress.
While it seems that I am busier in retirement, I know that part of it is that I have intentionally slowed the pace. I no longer rush through things which could lead to mistakes and unsafe conditions.
Be prepared for sticker shock at Outback. That's where we went Thursday evening for the friend's birthday.

Today is Melania Trump's 55th birthday. She's spending the day in the Vatican.

Everyone have a great Saturday.
