In spite of everything - the Sun came up again this morning.

A REALLY GREAT, BIG THANKS TO YOU ALL FOR THE NOTATIONS ABOUT CHARLIE!
You all are really a great group of guys!
(as BORIS (JOE) said - going to take a while to process)

He was so happy to see me ... and then the needle was inserted ...
All I thought about last night was the feeling that I had killed him ... which I did ...

Not a very good night -- I think several naps are in order today?
Now - If i can just turn off my mind for a while.
Later, fellows!
Sherrel: Don't take it too bad as you did something good. You did not kill Charlie; you just hurried the process that was happening. Better doing that vs allowing pain and suffering. Sure, it is gonna hurt awhile; I hate having to put animals down ... any animal. I usually cry just a tad even when venison is harvested. You always have memories and probably a ton of pix ... right?

Just try to move on thinking about how much love you have shared!

Good Morning All! Well, here it is still morning.

53F @ 56% with wind and clouds.

Geesh, I think Ima dying. Chunked up 10ish Cottonwood this morning; most 16 - 25" diameter, 40 footers. Sure glad I don't do this for a living. Dave - you can come over next time and show us how real loggers do this ... right? Pays pizza and beer. It cleared up and stopped raining late yesterday afternoon and I went out with the tractor and was able to lift them up with the hoe and chunk from there. This morning I needed to separate a few so I could get to them and moved them. Guess what? Could not pick them up with the hoe after that as they would roll. Figured that there was enough stick in the grass/dirt to prevent the rolling. So, cut 3/4 way through, then rolled them with the tractor and finished the cut. Definitely not in shape for this stuff. Well, I guess that once you get in the swing of things it would be better; but that does not give me anything to bi tch about. Told Maria it was Miller Time - she said 'it is pretty early' and I said I don't care. Suspect that I will pay for it all tomorra am!

I have some "earn a living type work" to do today and tomorrow.
New battery came for mower Saturday so lawn mowing/weed eating on Thursday & Friday.
Hope to get back to more bench work on the layout by the weekend.
Getting old I guess........I got a great deal on a BLI U. P. , MT-73, loco number 7000 in black . I thought it would pair up nicely with the # 7002
I already have. Problem is the #7002 I thought I had is in fact numbered 7000. Now I have 2, #7000, MT-73 locos. I guess one will be for sale here and on flea-bay. Too much of a pain for me to change road number on one of these. And so it goes.
Everyone have a great day.........John

great family photo. I was looking for the guy with the ZZ Top beard but realized you were probably taking the picture.
OK, here's one that my grandson took with his drone. I'm the short one near the right in the green shirt.

Notables in the picture, daughter #2 in green dress, her son with the drone controls behind her, my sister #1 to the right, her husband (my #1 BIL) in white shirt behind her on the right, my brother #1 in front of my wife Arlene in pink and SIL #2 in orange behind me. Granddaughter in pinkish dress looking down in front with my daughter #1 (her mom) behind her. Her husband on the right side of the tree in back row. My other grandson was home. Brother #2 and his wife (the hosts) on the left in front of my orange-shirted very tall nephew, also bearded. The rest are all nieces/nephew and their spouses and kids.

Afternoon All,

Started out with a walk at 61F and getting to 79F today. After I got cleaned up, I took MOH to VA for a blood draw, went to breakfast, went to Kohl's, went to a tree nursery, and finished up at Wally World. After that I was done for the day. I'm not sure what's on the agenda for tomorrow.

Today is the Navy's 123rd birthday for the submarine service.

Sherrel- You have my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Charlie. It never gets easier but you have to know you did the right thing for him ( and he knows also).

TomO- Great story that shows you never know the potential of someone.

Karl- Nice looking diesel and paint scheme.

David- Beautiful scenery. Is the diesel being modeled as a military transport? Back in 1976 I was on a boat that pulled into Holy Loch (Dunoon) after completing a mission. Our boat looked like a toy next to the missile boats. A buddy and I took a train to Edinburgh for 2 days (had an excellent time). I've also been to Plymouth for a port visit where I discovered hard apple cider. That was a rough underway that was really bad because of the drinking. 😮 I have also been to London twice.

Willie- Nice perspective of your layout levels. Great family photo.

Jeff- Great looking dogs.

Justin- Sometimes you catch a break.

Christian- Has the CFO authorized the change?;)

I hope everyone has a good night.

The doctors diagnosed me with myalgic encephalomyelitis. AKA chronic fatigue syndrome.

In the fourth quarter of 2021 I had a series of infections. One worse than the next. Since then, I've had little energy. I manage to work every day, but it is a struggle. When I come home, I take a shower and go straight to the couch.

I had some kind of fatigue before. It lasted 16 months.

They ran me around with a series of tests and cancer screenings, all negative. All they found was some calcium around my heart. They are sending me to a cardiologist as a precaution. Thank God I signed up for health care! The copays are bad enough.

They told me what they thought (myalgic encephalomyelitis) and recommended rest. I tried resting for three consecutive days, Good Friday through Easter Sunday, no change. I might as well keep grinding.

I worked begining at 3am this morning. I came home, cut the grass, and did some yard work. I found a football my boys had left out. Then I worked on my back porch. After 12.5 hours I feel fine. only tired, as always.
I'm determined to prove them wrong!

Well, howdy there internet peeps.

Condolences to Sherrel about his buddy. I'm one who believes that the worst part about having a fuzzy/furry buddy is when we have to decide their potential pain and suffering is greater than our grief at their passing.

In other news, I designed a book cover this morning (forget if I posted a teaser pic of it), and have been trying to figure out the best ways to market the books to the wide audience. I'm throwing some money at Facebook ads... but the "wide" platforms (Kobo/Apple/Nook/Google) take a day or more to report sales. Compared to Amazon's almost instantaneous reporting. So, I'm having to run ads longer than I normally do to get data.

And, I'm retooling my summer travel plans. I had two out of three Author conventions planned out. Dropped the one in Vegas, since it's only a month or so after the one in Tampa. The first one is always a better experience than stinky Vegas strip con.

And I dropped the one down by Willie's palatial estate. It was in June. But they're recording all sessions. For $25 I can get a digital ticket and just have to wait a month to get the downloads. That one saves me about $2K on my travel budget.

I've got one in Minnesota in July I'd like to go to, but I'm holding off to see how the wide sales do for the books. IF they do as well as I did last year, then Minn is doable. If it's a building-up year, then I'll need to wait.

Wife said we're going out for dinner. But she didn't tell me where. Not sure if it's Steaks or Pasta. We'll have to see.

OH, and here's a message of home scrawled right outside our gate:

POST 1,000! Good afternoon all. I don't remember my first posting here at the diner. I do remember that the first reply came from Sirfoldalot.. Then Santa Fe Willie asked if I had a real name rather than Hobo, my first PM. So, for 3 1/2 years I've been coming here on almost a daily basis. At the time, my layout was the Apple Ridge and Northern and it was a nice layout for watching trains run. But as I listened and participated in the diner, I realized I needed to rethink and rebuild my layout so that I could also do switching operations. So, from that the current Apple Ridge Rail Services was created. I have learned quite a bit here and I hope I have helped someone else. I have really enjoyed the fact that the diner is international and has men and women who all share a love of trains. Onward to post 2,000.

STAY SAFE

When I lost my Bessy, 10/11/12 (7yr old English Cocker Spaniel) I was so heartbroken I thought I would never have a dog again. Bessy passed away due to heart failure.

At that time, my youngest grandson was living with me. Just before thanksgiving we cleared the corner of the living room for the Christmas tree. We always have the tree up with only lights for thanksgiving.

I came downstairs early one morning to find a book in the cleared corner. "All I want for Christmas is a Dog Charlie Brown".

That set me on a path to find a dog. I found a 1.5-year-old beagle, Tucker listed on the ASPCA website.

I picked up Tucker. Not knowing my son bought me a pure breed beagle puppy. All I had to do was go pick one from the liter. The next day we took our grandson to western Maryland, and he picked out a little girl. He named her Sophie.

I will never forget Bessy and she could never be replaced.

Pure Breed or a rescue dog, all dogs deserve a loving home. Giving my beagles a home helped to heal me.

Sophie and Tucker mean so much to us.
