How ironic that we re trying to prevent an invasion of a country 6000 miles away, but NOT prevent an invasion of our own country?
Crazy, isn't it? Pity we no longer have leaders who are statesmen...our choices frequently are between a Lunatic and a Hack.

Yesterday, Jersey officially legalized "Wonder Weed"...if they thought drivers were bad before....they ain't seen nothin yet...o_O

Seems the Benefit Manager for our Prescription plan has pulled the plug on the wife's Rinvoq, a month early...pending re-authorization. With insurance a six month authorization, expires in five months...plus they sent the re-authorization forms to the wrong doctor, via US Mail...
Anything to create a crisis, when there was no need to...

I noticed a lot of member's attended church on Easter Sunday. I hope you all have a church somewhere on your layout. This was the first structure on the layout. In 1997 my wife had a heart attack and painted the church while she was home healing.

Church, I am sure Willie will agree a church or two is a must

wow I need to go photograph my churches!

Good afternoon all,

39° and filtered sunlight at present, supposed to get into the 40's today. We are looking at flirting with 70° Saturday, along with some thunderstorms.

Our ponds filled up from the winters snowmelt, they dropped about a foot last summer during the drought. It is fun to see the waterfowl, and we also have some muskrats come and go. Yesterday there was a big one.

Flo - I take a cup of coffee and one of those carmel pecan rolls. Thank you!

Church buildings - I have one but it is too large for the new layout, may be looking for something smaller, or scratch build a chapel.

Had a bunch of MPCA (Minnesota Pollution Control Agency) stuff to deal with this morning at work. I submitted the paperwork last October and they just decided I missed a form so have to resubmit everything! That is one bloated bureaucracy I regularly deal with.

While looking for photos yesterday I came upon a new batch, found this one of my scratch built log jammer:

_MG_5561.jpg

It is modeled after a photograph. I suspect the flat car is a little new, just noticed now after building it about 8 years ago!

Hope to do some more painting on the layout groundwork tonight, otherwise not much new.

more later, Dave LASM

Afternoon from the office,

Seems we only have 2 interviews as the middle one canceled as he was offered his dream job. At least he called.

I should still be ok on my vacation time. Just need 6 hours at a later time. Turned into a drizzly cold feeling day, although the temp is almost 70°. Supposed to be that way through Sunday. Figures, that the way my vacations usually are.

Good news is the peaches are still blooming and the apple trees have begun. Should get some fruit this late summer. Peaches ripe about mid August, green apples about the end of July, red apples (I may finally get some) and the deep red apples in late October. Peach trees are Loring variety. Tangy Green and Tasty Red apples are from Urban Apple, and the Deep Red are called Arkansas Black. The urban apples are columnar apples, meaning the tree grows like a column. Unfortunately it has a habit of dropping apples when they get ping pong ball size. The tasty green I've let get too ripe and they tend to rot on the tree. In retrospect, I wouldn't do either apple tree again. I do like the Arkansas black apple. I just need the tree to get bigger. It's only been in about a year.

If I don't get back, everyone have a good evening.

Good afternoon. A wonderful day in Cheeseland that’s Wisconsin if you were unsure. 60’s with great sunshine but a breeze running about 15mph and gusting to 30. I brought out the outside furniture for my deck only. I will get the 2 triangular shade sails up over the weekend, based on weather predictions. But, it’s very nice out here right now as this deck is sheltered from the current wind direction.

Terry has been down at the stables since we returned before noon from a Knick knack shopping trip. All horses including the 3 newest rescues are doing great. I have not even peeked into the train room. The Son in Law is coming home a day early from Chicago. He gave his notice a few weeks ago but they still wanted him for this planned big corporate meeting. He was coming back to work for us but he took another consulting contract. I am disappointed but it’s his decision but he will NEVER work for me full time again. Part time is the plan but I WILL be hiring the full time property manager that I can depend on. I have bent over backwards for the SIL, we have overpaid him because he is the SIL and it’s never enough. Well I didn’t meet his last requests and he went elsewhere. That’s fine!

Dinner down the street at the Drafthouse at 5:30 with the daughter and grandkiddos. SIL too if he makes it in time.

The SIL coming home a day early happily gets me out of a trip for a youth hockey game.I said yes to accompany the grandson to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin for a hockey tourney his team is playing in, now dad can take him. Yippie!!

I have no churches or actually even a community on the layout. Just manufacturing plants. But, on one the benches are 7 Merchant Row kits #1 to 5 being built as is with duplicates of #3 and 5 being kitbashed for across the street. There is room for a church but a bank seems more fitting for this scene. This will basically be a 24” x 140” diorama with a track right down the middle of main street. The lumber is cut as is the 2” foam but I just don’t have the desire to build it or anything right now. It could be attached to the layout or operate as a stand alone shelf. I know if we do build a cottage on the property there will not be a basement nor room for a layout. So this can go into the garage or even upstairs at the stables. But, the cottage would be within a 1000’ unseen from the current house and about 500’ from the stables. So access to the current modeling/train room, the weight room and pool is close enough. Yeah, I know, I have a tough life! But, we worked our asses off for it.

Be happy
TomO

Afternoon All,

Spent the morning at the VA doing several medical things (all routine). After getting home I've been vegging with one of our skunks sleeping on me for the last 90 minutes. I received another batch of LED lights so tomorrow I'm adding another 4 lights to the engine area to finish that job.

Speaking of churches, I have a small wooden one for the coal town that is the next major project after my open house.

Jaz- Nice churches.

Joe- Too late for the doc, but I'll look at my meds for sure.

Steve- That's what MRR'ing is all about, it's not wasted time. One thing I really like is the quiet alone time when I'm doing things. I guess I'm antisocial 😲

Terry- I hope your wife's return is good news.

Guy- The ground throws look great. I have 2 on the layout that I'm going to do like yours.

Willie- Nice job on the sidewalk.

Sherrel- Be careful, not supporting the California line of insanity (not to be confused with the Florida line of insanity) might get you booted out!👍

Dave- Nice layout shot.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Evening Good People.

In an earlier post I said that the Loco shed that I had bought, the first one, that the doors were too narrow, and that I had complained and would be receiving a 75% refund.
Unfortunately, that's no longer happening, I've received a e-mail instead.

Dear Chris

I am so sorry for the delay and we have sold so many of these so this has come as a big surprise to us. I have actually tested it myself with a different engine and found you are quite right, the engine does catch the sides. I am due to send this back to our designer for a re-design and make the doors larger we have worked out 2mm extra on each side of the door will make for a much better opening.

Hopefully our designer will get this back to me next week and as soon as we have the new design in production I will of course send you a replacement out to you.

Again I am very sorry and thank you so much for getting in touch.

So now I'm going to have 3 Loco shed's, as I've finished one, nearly finished the second one, (which I'll post photo's of when I've done the final assembly tomorrow), and now this replacement, I'd rather have had the refund, I don't need three.

Really got motivated to do some scenery work on my Canyon Diablo. Painted more of the rock outcroppings and put down a defined creek bed at the base. Added lichen up the east side of the canyon wall and lined the edge of the creek bed with vegetation growth. It's really starting to look like the pictures.
I have another Athearn Genesis SD60E in NS paint on order. It is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. It's DCC ready and I have an ESU decoder with speakers for it.
I found a couple more R-Ramps on line and placed them on order. Should be here next week.
Tomorrow should be a great day for a ride. I think I'll ride on down to Ashland, VA for lunch and watch trains from trackside.

Not for nothing, I never heard of one either, until I needed one to "complete" the beneficiary claim for one of my father's insurance policies when he passed twenty years ago. I mean it was ludicrous, to have to go through such lengths to verify that I was me, especially since they were the ones who contacted me. Fortunately, at the time, the local "store" of the Toronto Dominion Bank, was still staffed by competent bankers who knew their customers. No problem and no fee...BTW, the huge payout for this policy $4,000.

Well, It is finally happening! Went out to the MIL's today afternoon and met the daily hospice nurse just leaving where she paused to tell me that the signs are all there for the MIL's organs shutting down. Jan (daughter) and John (son) were there with her and Mel (John's wife) was sitting in the kitchen with tears on her cheeks.
I walked into the bedroom and Jan proceeded to give me the news that the MIL had a fever and that the nurse had told them that it will be pretty soon. I was hoping that the Spousal Unit and her sister would make it back in time from their trip, but they are supposed to arrive LA on Sunday morning - then by the time they are able to collect their belongings, get to the car park, and drive the 100 miles to get here - it will take most of the afternoon. I doubt very much if she will last until Sunday afternoon. The girls had left knowing that it may happen, but they had rescheduled the trip twice and were faced with losing all their passage and lodging had they not gone.
Well, I have my fingers crossed anyway - we'll see?

It's 46 degrees out and very cool with the wind blowing. Had to turn on the furnace this morning and looking for the same inna AM.

Morning all,

Supposed to get Stormy overnight, high of 82°, Currently 72° and cloudy.

It's Friday! One day closer to Monday. Also earth day. How times change. First earth day was because we were starting another ice age, and now the polar ice is melting too fast. I guess we overshot the mark a bit.

Last official day of vacation. Need to do something beside falling asleep in my chair.
