Ah, running trains is fun . . . . . .

Made up a long train with all my rolling stock save 2 caboose. Hauled it with the 4-6-2. Brought it back to the yard and broke it up. Had to get the switcher out onto the main curve in order that it could reach the train!

Spent a good hour doing all that - - - Wasted time?

Tried making some videos, but my trains are apparently camera-shy. Every time I hit record on the android, some hiccup would occur. Gave up and just had fun with the trains. If I were good at editing, maybe I could put the bits and pieces together into something watchable. Any suggestions for an entry-level easy-to-use video editor-for-dummies type app?

Morning all,

Nothing new going on here. Supposed to be in the 80's today. Once again the winds are howling outside. The older I get, it seems the stronger the winds get.

Ran some trains for a bit. Still have to fix the rail on the outer loop. Just didn't work on the scenery.

And 4 hours later finally get this sent.
We've got some really heavy winds here right now too.

I wasn't criticizing, just surprised.
Curt: I know that, no offense taken. It's a tad frustrating, when I take the time to pre assemble a section of track, (and do a relatively neat soldering job for a change), just to find I miscalculated. An inch on either side would have worked out perfectly.:oops:

Since you're going tomorrow, mention the sleeping issue to your Doc. Could be something as simple as meds, or a host of other possibilities. But, lack of sleep is no good. Speaking of sleep, my problem with suddenly getting tired mid day ended, when I re-read the instructions and saw that the pill was to be taken at Bed Time. Results: fewer mid day naps, and better sleep at night. Live and Learn, eh?

40° and clear presently.Expect low arounf 35° by morning then up to 60°. Maybe, some yard work tomorrow.

I noticed a lot of member's attended church on Easter Sunday. I hope you all have a church somewhere on your layout. This was the first structure on the layout. In 1997 my wife had a heart attack and painted the church while she was home healing.

View attachment 144603
George- a church is my next structure purchase for my layout.
Louis- even though he’s in his 15th season, he’s still getting it done. His primary pitches are that sweeping slider and his 12-6 curveball (aka Uncle Charlie). He is now only a half dozen strikeouts from the Dodgers’ franchise record(2696, by Don Sutton) & will likely reach 3000 if he is rewarded with a contract extension.

Morning all!
45F in Libby, sunny today
44F in Mt Prospect IL - rain
420 - ok, so ima day late. Moons ago I had TWT truck 420. People were giving me sh.t about that number in truck stops, and on docks. I had no idea what it meant. Yes, ima pot smoker and have done so since 71ish - nothing like folks now where they have to have 2 or 3 bong hits before coffee. I don't smoke it when on the road or that week at home; so it has been more than a few years. Anyway, I finally asked dispatch after they started calling me 'party truck' when I called in. They told me all about it. For reasons unknown I can not get a pix of it from my server - geesh.
Enjoy your day!

Good morning fro a very bright So. Central Wisconsin. A big difference in the winds where yesterday the gusts were hitting in the 40’s.

Seems strange though with the little warmth we have had, mainly 40’s we are still getting the grass to grow.

While checking out opening day of the Wednesday Farmers Markets I stopped after at the LHS. He is having issues getting glues, some paint brands (Tamiya) and Evergreen styrene. I of course was looking at those. Purchased some of the Evergreen items on my list but not the main #9060 plain sheets x.060 thick I was really looking for. I purchased some Plastruc sheets instead at .060 and hopefully they work. Dropped the purchases at the bench and hopefully today I go back in and do something.

No plans here for the day
Be safe

Good Morning! - Only 29F, but, it's only 5am and I can see the moon. Perhaps it will be sunny today, and warm things up a-bit.
All that snow that fell over the last couple of days is nearly gone already.

Willie - Thank you for the kind, in-depth answer regarding my ground throw paint question. I read that answer a couple of times.
Sometimes I wonder if most people even bother to read these posts, as I've asked questions before in the shop, and have received no answer at all. Often, it's better to just dive into it and give it a try. After all, it's not like we are playing with explosives.

Guy- I'm interested in your ground throw results.
Curt - I do have an interesting development to report with regards to my throw painting experiment. I applied an enamel aerosol primer first, and then brush painted on the rust coloured Humbrol enamel. The enamels seemed to foul up the switch gears enough that the switches became a little bit sticky to throw. It got better with multiple throws to break the enamel, but, still retained some resistance.
Then I washed the switches with a cheap, watered down Licorice acrylic colour and let it dry:
Throws (1).JPG

Throws (2).JPG

I don't know if the water and acrylic had an effect on the enamels, but, those switches are now swinging like they are brand new. They arn't hesitating at all after that wash.

I'm thinking of painting the throw handle heads green on one side and yellow on the other. The real throws have a green/yellow indicator flag on them, as evidenced by these photos I took in 2020:
Throws (3).JPG
Throws (4).JPG
I'm thinking a green face means travel straight through, and yellow caution means travel is through the curve. That grn/yel enamel won't be applied until the switches are mounted, because I don't know which way they are going to throw, yet.

The coffee cup is empty, so I suppose I'd better get doing something. I'll walk the dog early and get more photos of the Mule deer that are hanging around my forest. Here's one from yesterday; it's mostly the ears that give them away:
MuleDeer_04-20-2022 (1).JPG

I saw a White-tail running with the Muley's, but, couldn't manage a photo. Thought the symbiotic mix was interesting.

Terry - Great to hear your wife is recovering.

Good morning gang from the land of bright sunshine and warming temps!! It's so nice I wore a T-shirt to work today and no jacket!

Terry you have a good point there, a real catch-22. 🙏

We brought Bud's remains home yesterday. Sharon placed the box on top of the stereo speaker next to the love seat that he loved to sleep on. The other dog and the cat are adjusting well to his absence. They are actually sleeping together at times. Not sure if we are going to get another dog yet,

I've had this R-Ramp by DCC Specialties sitting around for a few years and finally got around to installing it yesterday. Basically, it just hooks up in line with the command station output to the tracks and will give ya a better idea of voltage and current draw to each power district.
rrampmeter_v2.jpg

I was able to squeeze it in under the benchwork, next to the command station. I might buy a couple more to put by each booster.

Good Morning All. Cloudy and a somewhat warm 72°, wind has come down to a more reasonable 10 mph for the time being. Yesterday's projected high of 88° turned into 90°, it's supposed to be only 85° for the next three days.

Another Thursday, another grocery store trek into the big city of Denton TX. Looks like my wife has the wine store, car wash, and shoe store on her list. I have the shoe store, gasoline and Home Depot on mine along with Kroger.

I managed to coerce a notary to provide me with a Medallion signature guarantee yesterday on the paperwork that I need to claim my beneficiary IRA benefits from my late brother's estate. He was the manager at a competing bank in town and he initially said that they only notarize for their own customers. So I made a comment that I would just have to come in with $50 and open an account and then I would be one of their customers. There was a pause and he then said to just come in and he would do it. After everything was completed, I asked about a fee and he waived it. It probably would have cost the bank if I had actually opened the account knowing that I would probably close it later this week.

The garden is over on the back burner for the most part yesterday. I did pick a large plastic bag of the two different lettuce varieties for supper last night and a couple more meals. Too soon for anything else. While it doesn't seem likely, I am hoping that the wind dies down for just a little bit of time so I can apply organic fertilizers prior to the rain Sunday.

Added to the firewood stack yesterday, quite by accident. The tree trimming contractors for the local utility company were set to trim 200' along the road fronting one side of my property. I caught them in time and they dragged all limbs with any parts greater than 2" in diameter over to my yard instead of throwing them into the chipper. I brought over the chainsaw and cut the parts off that were worthwhile and then they threw the skinny ends into the chipper. They weren't allowed to do any of the cutting for me, but that was OK. It looks like I ended up with about 2.5 weeks worth of wood, approximately a 1/4 of a cord. They're all between 2" and 4" in diameter, but I need them to burn with the 6" to 10" logs that I already have, so they will eventually last over a month. I don't generally have to split anything 10" or under, but I do need some smaller stuff to keep the larger ones well ignited. A 10" log 16" long will fully heat the house for over 14 hours when done correctly. The door opening in the heater is 12" x 18".

Thanks for the likes and comments regarding yesterday's post; Smudge, Guy, Steve J, Patrick, Chad, James, Tom O, Hughie, Joe, Dave B, Mikey, Curt, Gary, Louis, Rick, Tom, IB Ken, OB Ken.

In my other life, I was out in the train shed for a while yesterday. As I was admiring my handiwork on the Seymour Block structure, I realized that one of the primary reasons that I removed it from the layout for upgrading was to add a sidewalk!
So out came the Evergreen Styrene sidewalk sheet. I chose to use the 1/2" pattern on this stand-alone corner structure. This will be a scale 14'+ sidewalk. Good for a bench on the right side later.

Since I glued the walls to the top of the sidewalk, I also had to add some .040" x .060" strips under the other walls to even out the foundation. Then I painted everything including the strips that are now concrete foundation.
IMG_0717.JPG

In between cutting, gluing and painting, I was able to run a few trains since that is the primary reason for having this fantasy land. Still trying to figure out signage and window treatments.

Tom O - Not too many horse stories for me. I like reading about what many of our Coffee Shop visitors do in their non-train lives. I certainly write about it! This is a Coffee Shop isn't it?
Dave B - Really nice progress.
Greg - Whether you like it or not, your true age is out there in cyberland already, and has been for years. All public records including births have been published on the Internet. There's actually probably at least ten sources of your age out there.

Everybody have a great day.

Morning all,

Foggy and 59° in the area, high expected of 70°. While Wichita got to 82° yesterday, we didn't get above 73° about 30 miles from the airport where the "official" weather station is.

I did get a call yesterday afternoon, so I have to go to work this afternoon. 3 interviews scheduled and if I want a say I need to be there. I did tell them if they scheduled some more to call as I wasn't going anywhere. Kind of nice having some time off, but I already know I'm going to be paying for it next week. Already have a call about a missing email. Apparently a user sent one that the recipient says hasn't been received. In almost all cases, I can only see that it was received by their email system, but I can't see anything about where it goes afterward. As if I had the power to see into other entities email systems. I already know way too much about ours. Really fun when I have to trace one inbound and told they never got, and find it in their inbox and read. Oh well....

Well that's one lake I have never fished......

Now everyday normal fishing lures glow in the dark in that lake. The government was experimenting with bomb-grade uranium and plutonium.
Her's a photo of the lake before the accident. Now when you drive by there every tree is dead. No wonder people in the town were worried. Next time I drive by there I'll take a photo.

George: Cool Pix. Rockingham Park. That's a name from the past. Is it still operating? My first wife, was blessed with Night Command, a gelding with lineage back to Man of War. She rode him at Devon and other competitive venues, when his racing days were over. Her father's family worked for the Riddles.
I think it's a harness track now? I played golf in Ocean City MD on the Man of War and War Admiral golf courses that used to be their owners racetrack farm. In the clubhouse there was an original 1938 poster of the match race between War Admiral and Seabiscuit. I asked the golf pro where can I buy one. He said, there a dime a dozen. I looked on the web and one was selling for $9,000.00. I guess the pro should stick to golf. Boris have you watched Seabiscuit lately. Great movie.

Greetings from LA-LA Land where you can pick what you want to be -- LOL!
Supposed to reach only 69f for a high today - it is 43f out there now - rather chilly to me.
Not very much news from the travelers yesterday. The Spousal Unit has a cold and was spending the day in bed according to her sister; they are at sea on the way back to Los Angeles which is a four day journey for them ... boring for me!
On the home front - the MIL continues to barely exist somehow. What she consumes during the day would not fill a mouse.

I mostly read all posts in the coffee shop, but do not always comment on everything. I find it very entertaining reading to see what everyone is thinking about - or doing.
Some days I HAVE TO SKIP POSTS AS I GET TOO FAR BEHIND - SORRY!

How ironic that we re trying to prevent an invasion of a country 6000 miles away, but NOT prevent an invasion of our own country?

WILLIE: Pretty sharp thinking about the $50 account! Bet that caught him flat-footed.
