Greetings all, the march to Holy Week continues.

My knee is slowing me down. Wifeykins thinks it is exhausting me much more than I realize. Says she got up from bed for a cup of herbal last night, and came back ready to ...'snuggle.' Apparently after several sidling up and shimmying efforts she gave up as I was apparently dead tot he world! LOL. Wish I could've slept through the blasted knee pain later in the night which had me tossing and turning from about 0200 onwards. Oh well, for this too, we give thanks to the Lord!

So we had an order which included some interesting packaging. The squirrel and modeler in me says it MUST be useful for something, but drawing a blank so far:

Very glad of any suggestions.

Not much in the RR world. I did buy some Neodymium super-magnets to try as magnetic uncouplers. They work purt-darn good! I think I may try to remove the two troublesome Kadee under-track magnetic uncouplers in my yard ladders and replace them with the super-magnets. I bought the 10mm dia x 5mm long. And added value to the foam roadbed, I found it very easy to carefully cut a place for the magnets and insert them under the already installed track. Recommended by me if you are interested!

Still wickedly cold here in 'snow-ta. Personally, I would prefer 20 degrees and snow than 35-40 and rain. Yesterday hovered all day near the freezing point. Snow and sleet all day long with a stiff breeze. Ugh, the chill. Overnight, the temp dropped for some actual accumulation, though only about an inch total here in the 'burbs. No doubt our friend Guy would have been up and at it first thing, but I'm going to let the sun take care of it. That's right, I possess that wonderful characteristic that rhymes with "Crazy."

Blessings to all! - - - - - - - Steve J

Good Morning.

It's that time of year we get the diverse climate variety. Gonna bee 60F+ today, and come Sunday we'll be in the deep-freeze again.

Just in to have a coffee, and then I'm going to get to it.
Yesterday, I completed the layout table back-board as far as I'm going with it. Today, I'll finish filling all the screw holes so that it can be painted tomorrow. It's a lot harder to get a good area photo in that room now.

In the first photo where you can see the rear side of the backboard; that can be turned into a return peninsula in future with the backboard separating the two sides. If I built that peninsula, I could theoretically extend the layout another 15 feet. Right know, it's a 10'x12' table circle with a river crossing. Here's a couple of pics showing current condition:
LayoutConst_04-07-2022 (1).JPG

LayoutConst_04-07-2022 (2).JPG

I still need to build a swing gate. The lighting needs adjustment as well, and I'll add 4x more 5000k puck-lights in the future.

Well look at that; the coffee cup is already empty. Suppose I'd better get busy.
Have a great day!

Good Morning All. Clear and 42°, at least the wind is below 10 mph for a little while. Yesterday was an ultra high wind advisory day, with sustained NW winds of 35 mph all day long with gusts near 47 mph. Wasn't cold wind, temperature all afternoon stayed between 65° and 67°, just ferocious. More of the same today staying in the 20 mph range. Then tomorrow we get the same except the high winds will be from the south for five days with temperatures in the upper 80's. Maybe moderation by next Thursday.

Garden seems to be surviving despite the wind. I did do some hoeing yesterday, a pre-emergent weed operation. Also to break up the crust formed from that wind over the moist ground. Took a few pictures of the estate while walking around.
The redbud tree in full bloom.

Saturday, the neighbor's son prepared the hay field for planting.
IMG_0638.JPG

Since he plowed it up then, it soaked up all 1.5" of rain Monday night and I had no run-off to add to my pond. It's still nearly 75% filled though.
The power company had a tree trimming service in the neighborhood this week, and I received two truckloads of shredded branches to use in the garden.
IMG_0637.JPG

The pile on the left actually came from my own tree that I had removed last fall. It all has to age 18 months before using, but I have part of a fourth pile off to the right that was deposited in 2018 that I am still using. This stuff is real important and useful in breaking up my hard black clay soil. Some gets mixed in well every winter along with grass clippings to loosen things up.
Finally on my tour around the estate, we come to the "other" garden on the porch.
IMG_0640.JPG

This is just some of the culinary herbs used daily when I am in the kitchen. Hard to distinguish here, but that's newly sprouted Basil on the right, Cilantro immediately left, Italian Parsley middle left, regular Parsley middle right and Sage in the back. Elsewhere is the Rosemary and Oregano in much bigger pots.

Grocery trek went well yesterday, prices are still slowly increasing except bacon which is rapidly increasing. All shelves were full and there were zero masks except for the janitor in the grocery store. I did see gasoline at Sam's Club for $3.47/gal., but it was mostly $3.59 at all other stations around town. Doesn't appear that I need to leave the house again until Tuesday for another damn doctor appointment.

Job interviews - I only went to one in my whole life. After filling out the application, the only question that they asked was "Can you start today?". I said no because I had to go home and tell my wife since we didn't have a phone then! I stayed there for 43 years. I hated interviewing people but I had to do hundreds of interviews over the years. Eventually HR took over most of the boring stuff and I hired only good qualified people which reduced the frequency of interviews. I only hired people who could do their jobs (and mine) without me being there to watch them.

Thanks to all who commented on or who reacted to the photos yesterday; Smudge, Karl, James, Sherrel, Troy, Dave B, Tom O, Chad, Hughie, Patrick, Curt, Gary, Tom, Rick, IB Ken, Guy, Joe, OB Ken.

I did some more piddling around with the bungalow yesterday out in the train shed. I enhanced the flower pots with some Lupine plants.
IMG_0642.JPG

Then I decided to add the Gentry sisters and their doggie.
IMG_0645.JPG

That's dad keeping his eye on them over in the left side of the front window.

Tom O - That's quite an itinerary in just a few days. Hope that you were able to get out of NYC as planned. There's multiple quarter horse ranches along IH35 nearby, some marked, some not. Denton County TX is probably the #2 horse capital of the US, with almost 350 registered horse ranches here. Pretty sure that Lexington KY is the leader.
Sherrel - Good week so far, Kate in Tahiti, daughter made it to Okinawa, sprinkler valve fixed and you're still posting.
Greg - Yes, the garden is flourishing. I know that many of you up north cannot start until after Memorial Day, I am blessed that I can start this early because I like vegetable gardening as a hobby.

Prayer list is lengthy, but I haven't forgotten anyone yet; Troy's mom, Sherrel's MIL, Terry's wife Marie, Steve J and his knee, Curt & Wife.

Everybody have a great day.

Good morning gang!

Strange orange ball in the sky, can't see much to the east!

Managed to successfully print some store shelves that I modeled after ULines gondola shelving.

Also started making a video on my version of how to make corrugated metal. Hope to post on YouTube, if anyone is interested. With this technique I've made standing seam metal and hope to give delta rib a try also.

Good morning from a white covered grass area in Wisconsin. Yesterday was a real cluster. Not only do I dislike NYC but big city attorneys are the worst. I am not sure but the NYC, DC and Chicago attorneys all seem to have grown up in silver spoon households. They don’t seem IMO to have any real life experience. The 2 hour thing went 6 hours, all of course billable hours and I missed my flight. When I mentioned that in the meeting one of the attorneys had his assistant make me a flight connection. The only good thing about it was that it was 1/2 what Thursday flight would have been but it was for 7am Eastern time. I was with 4 executives who didn’t seem to understand I didn’t work for their company but purchased the empty corporate seat on the plane.

I am home until the 25th unless the spousal unit changes the plans. Until I went to NYC, I had a great time. The son and his flying machine are a great time saver. He does get extra flight time in and mom and dad pick up the bills. He loves when we come to Texas. Except for the crazy fast speed limits in some places that IMO should be lower the Texas highway system is in pretty good shape. Not the city of Austin streets but the State highways.

Shower, a trip to the grocery store and then I will fire up the train room. I am watching the g/kids tonight for a few hours as the parents want a quiet dinner out.

Good Morning Everyone out there in Model Railroad Land. Over cast and light snow fall which is melting on contact, but it/s still snow falling. Spring is still far away. We're turn on the cabin water in several weeks. I follow what the camp grounds do with their water. At one of the larger camp grounds the water turning on is a day project and several days to drain and blow pout the line. We used to carry water to the cabin in the winter, but our age is taking its toll. Even too much work to turn on the water for a couple of days of fun! Getting old.

My NWSL replacement gears have been shipped and will arrive on Monday. I don't look forward to the day I have to replace the Shay's stock gears when one or two loosen up after cracking. I don't run the Shay too often since its so slow, but visitors like the gear action and the sound system that's been installed. I'll keep the replacements in my wheel/coupler/mini-fastener/misc. part - plastic compartment storage container until I need them.

I have so many locomotives still in their boxes that I may never operate. This summer I'll sort out the locomotives and maybe have a sale at the local NMRA meet and rent a table. I'm not sure what to price the locomotives at, most are Atlas Gold Line, Proto and Athearn. Many have decoders that would fit or are made for the locomotive. Most are NIB and some never taken out of their boxes. I just make list them on this Forum to see if there's any interest.

Taxes are finished and awaiting their payment checks to be attached and then send on to the IRS. I have an interest in a foreign mutual fund that requires a bunch of paperwork to be filed since it's a foreign account. This year's profit after losses was a whole $1.00. It cost more to print the return and then the extra mailing postage I want to just get rid of the fund. The last quarter's financial statements are rolling in. World events sure had their effect on the stock market.

Willie: I like your porch garden. Wish we could have one, but being at the cabin in summer the container plants at home need water. At the cabin I have some large self watering containers that I grow flowers and hibiscus in during the summer. I also add some water absorbing crystals to the soil to hold water. This year we're planting some Sun Flowers that Cathy likes. we always have to be careful of the deer who will eat almost any flower or plant, Hosta are their favorite and the Hostas are sprayed with deer repellent on a weekly basis.

Thoughts out to all those who are ailing. I know what you are going through and it takes time to heal.

Tomorrow, I'll be in the layout room running my famous track cleaning train and then some break in of my new locomotives. Cathy purchased a small one gallon wet/dry vac that will be perfect for dusting the layout. A make-up brush to loosen the dust and the vac to suck it up and off the layout.

Watching 1:1 trains roll bye the amount of graffiti amazes me. I hate graffiti myself, but some of the "Artists" are really talented and should refocus their efforts elsewhere. I wonder how they paid or steal the paint for the graffiti. Painting an entire box car must take a lot of cans of spray paint. I myself have little graffiti on any of my cars on the layout.

That's all for now..................

Greg

I believe this locomotive was weathered by a fellow in Ohio who does great work. I like the faded paint and the perfect rusting near the rear of the locomotive.-Greg

Good afternoon,

Had a busy morning at the office, nice because time flies when busy!

I read everybodies post but for some reason remember Guy, Willie, Louis, and Sherrel the best, I often get the Toms and Greg mixed up in my mind, do they all live in Wisconsin? Steve is easy cause he lives near my old neighborhood. Eventually will get it all figured out.

It would be nice if everyone filled out the information about them in the information section (I don't even know what it is called, I keep clicking until I get the page that looks familiar), like their name and where they live, if retired, etc. Whenever I click there to see something about someone I am usually disappointed by a lack of information.

Icy roads this morning, some wet snow overnight then 28° this morning so some frozen areas. Did not see 1 semi tractor trailer this morning in 60 miles of driving, wonder if the economy is slowing down that much? Usually trucks are a good indicator.

Unwrapped another treasure, the MOW inspection truck. Also included a couple small vehicles. The 50' boxcar is authentic, NP had several used in the early 20's and beyond, I believe, hauling large, bulky items like buggies. They are kits, I think I have 4 different road numbers. could be built with doors on the ends or sides, as I recall.

^^^ This ^^^^

I promise to not visit without an invite. And Elon Musk already has access to everything about you via his iRobot network ;)

In the OY VEY! dept

MIL is back in the hospital (87? years old) with an impacted bowel this time  . And her blood sugar is out of wack as well. I haven't been this excited to get a message reading "She Pooped!" since we were potty training the kid back in the 1990s.

Got CCd into drama from the old gaming group. Having fun watching that implode. The ones I knew would be troublesome are doing just that. Someone's eyes are bigger than the club budget. And the ones leaning on them to hold smaller events are now the "problem" instead of the one spending beyond the boundaries of the club's bank account.

I just keep posting "Oy Vey!" to Facebook today. That seems to sum up this week.

Afternoon All,

The wife and I are feeling better today, and I did some chauffeuring for her. I did ballast part of the peninsula reverse loop so I can finish the next section of the peninsula before moving over to the right pier. Tomorrow is a community wide yard sale (45 homes). The 2nd control box for the TT is supposed to be here tomorrow.

Sherrel- I believe dad paid $200 for a year's contract.

Guy- Great progress.

TomO- I have no desire to go to a large city, the mid-size ones are bad enough these days.

Greg- That is really weathered!

Dave- Are the 2 yellow rail cars a version of a speeder?

I hope everyone has a good night.

Hi Curt,

Yes they are a type of speeder that the work crews used. I have a photo of a real one with crew in front of the Wyoming depot. When I find it I will post it, I did not find it on my digital collection.

What significance is cambria area 51, if I may ask?
Cambria is the town I live in and work for. The 51 is the area marked on the tax map, which narrows down the part of Cambria I live. It is also the same area that the town hall is at which was formally a NIKE site with Hercules missals with nuclear warheads. So Cambria area 51. Now you know the rest of the story.

Dave, I go by TomO online and our primary residence is in Verona, Wisconsin a suburb of the capital city of Madison.

in the 80’s I worked at a place that had 4 Tom’s in management and the owner started using the 1st letter of the last name. That’s how I became a TomO. I was the only one to walk out on my own, he had fired the rest. What a jerk!
