Good morning all! 52 and rain heading for 59 and rain. Coming down pretty good out there right now.

Had a really busy day at work yesterday. I'm still figuring out a lot of things there, but it was nice to be busy after several slow days. Had several calls from users around the campus for help. Gave a network connection problem a temporary fix but have to go back to day to run a new cable. I don't know who installed the existing setup but it was not what I'd call "professional" or even close. I'm just amazed they didn't have problems before now.

Had a meeting with the college president and the Dean in the afternoon and was given a pretty big project to work on. I know nothing significant about what they want me to do, so it's research time with not as much time to get done as I'd like. Either way, I'm still enjoying what I'm doing and am ready to take on this challenge.

Patrick: Best of luck with your job interview tomorrow!

Nothing much else going on. Hope you all have a great day!

Good Morning All. Clear and 54° under a high wind advisory since 0300 this morning. After a high of 91° yesterday, it was still 75° at midnight and has dropped over 20° since then. This severe north wind will continue for three more days although high temperatures will remain near 70° every day. I may have to refire up the wood burner Thursday night! I just thought that I was done for the season! Yard needs mowing right now, but it is still too saturated from Monday night's rain to drive the tractor in most areas. With the current wind conditions, that should change by mid-afternoon today in the higher area around the train shed and new garden. The SW corner is probably OK, but the path to it is mushy. I did use the weedeater around the house yesterday for the first time this season. Ugggh!

Thanks for the likes and comments regarding the cafes yesterday; Hughie, George, Tom O, Dave B, Chad, Smudge, Karl, Tom, Gery. Louis, Mikey, IB Ken, Guy, Patrick, OB Ken.

About all that I did in the train shed yesterday, was to cut out and install curtains in the bungalow that I recently built. I had already installed the downspouts at some point, a simple easy task, but I don't remember if I posted that. I still have a gas meter and electric meter to install, but they're still in the paint-drying mode. I will be adding a few other details that aren't included in the kit like vent pipes on the roof and a flower pot or two on the porch. Even though it might not be visible, I need to add a back step as well. I did not add curtains to the front window yet, as I am thinking of adding a couple of figures inside, just to be different. I have done this before like here.

Here's another that not only has a figure, but a couple of vehicles.

Patrick - Good luck with the second interview. That would be great to eliminate the on-call duties.
George - Regarding sourdough bread - I like it and it is healthier. Of course any bread is healthier than bleached white bread! Downside is that it still contains a lot of carbs which those of us who need to monitor blood glucose levels don't need! I cut smaller slices.
Steve J - I like that phrase, "surgery virginity". I lost mine at 16 with my tonsils removed, but have since been surgery free since 1968. Unless a colonoscopy counts?
Dave B - I do remember the old style DQ's from the early 60's. Around '65 or '66, they added a drive thru and a dining room to the one nearest our neighborhood. I think the conversion to the modern logo took place after I moved away to college.
Ken (D&J) - That seems like good news regarding your daughter.
IB Ken - OK, your Centerline car issues have me stumped for now. I'll have to read the other thread and pull mine out and observe it. I have the old style with the black body as well.

Since tomorrow is National Beer Day, commemorating the end of Prohibition on April 7, 1933; that makes today New Beer's Eve.
Everybody have a great day.

Finally finished the 2018 amended return. Should get post marked today. Now it's just a matter of the IRS accepting the carried forward loss from 2017.
Now, sorting out the stuff to get the 2021 return put together and filed.
A club friend will be here on Friday to pick up the club modules. He thinks he can whip them into shape. That will finally free up my living room so I can start some other projects.
Gonna attend the county Board of Supervisors working session this evening. I've been putting this off for the past few years but now that the property tax issue has become a major concern, I think I'll get involved in what's going on there.

Willie my wife pays no attention to what she eats. I tell her there's not much going on 6 feet under, and she pays no attention to that. I try to eat more responsible and stay on top of the ground for a while longer. Went for my annual check up last week. Doc said, the top number on your blood pressure was a little high. There goes the potato chips.

Good Morning!
It's going to be a beautiful, sunny day reaching near 50F. I might just steer the rototill into the garden; churn it up to help the ground thaw.
I'll have to build a new garden fence this year. It will be 1' higher to help keep the new dog out. She seems to like the compost we put in there.

Willie - That Bachmann steamer I bought worked out to be $148.44US with the current conversion rates. Not too bad, I suppose.

Hughie - That was an interesting 360 ride video. The camera seemed to have a hard time focusing for the short time I watched it. They need to work on that.

Dave - I did like the Grovemont crow's view of the boxcar staging photo. Well done!

I picked up another new tankcar, just because I liked it. It's marked as packing liquid chlorine, which is a chemical used for way more purposes than keeping the pool disinfected. - Odd that tank cars and flats are my favorite railcar types.

I've got my eye on a few more tankcars that I like, but, I'll wait until the wife is done her renovation projects and is busy in the garden, before I pull the plug on those. You only live once, ya know.

Have a great day! It's going to be another good one.

Good afternoon all,

We have 36° and cloudy, some light rain off/on. Was 32 driving in this morning, snow sticking in a couple spots but no ice that I could notice.

Troy - Good luck on getting 6,000 words today. Glad to hear you break up your day with some distractions. I do that at work, but at home when working on projects I will focus for hours straight. Drives my wife crazy, so I will do a 2:30 pm coffee break with her. She will NOT skip a meal, that is her high point of the day. She prepares 3 squares for herself each day. I for sure get in a good supper which she prepares. Lunch and breakfast are optional, esp. on weekends.

Willie - the car dealership with cars INSIDE the showroom, nice!

Patrick - rooting on you in the interview! We would be in fire season right now if it weren't for the wet snow and rain. Believe it or not, when I was a wildland fire fighter we would welcome a small grass fire every once in a while just to keep our skills up. Remember going 30 straight days of hot, dry, windy weather with no fires. Go figure.

Guy - love the tank car!

Everyone - have a good day

Here is another shot, goes with yesterdays crow view photo, from the other side. I notice in this shot a nice drainage ditch adjacent to the tracks, something I like to include where possible. Grass is those tear off patches:

You can see I use lots of stuff for ballast.

more later, Dave LASM

Morning all.

High wind warnings up for today with a red flag warning for fires. Winds expected around 50 later this afternoon.

Job interview scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Hopefully it goes well. I was told they were impressed by the first interview.

Bbl when I get to the office.
Good luck with the second interview, I'm sure you'll impress the hell out of 'em.

Afternoon All,

Wife is feeling poorly but the Covid test was negative. She must have caught a bug during the book fair. I know when I fully participate, I always end up sick. Dad and I got our 2nd booster today. Tomorrow Dad has the geek squad coming to the house. He bought a new desktop computer (his was dying) last week and they're transferring everything over. It's going to be a chore; his passwords are all long random strings of letters and numbers. The problem is he can't read his own writing 😲 which is poor at best.

Today was another good day in the train room (I can get used to this!). I started out running a loco onto the TT, reversing the bridge 180 degrees then running the engine off followed by running both reverse loops without issue.:D After getting back home I cleaned the main (CMX car) which was filthy then cleaned the reverse loops which weren't too bad.

Tomorrow I believe I'm chauffeuring the wife around delivering certificates to business's that were voted #1 people's choice for the previous year.

Patrick- Again, best wishes for tomorrow.

Gary- That photo is very cool.

George- I thought subs were cramped. That's ridiculous.

Troy- Good luck with Mom and your writing.

Willie- I really like the curtains. Enlarged they look like venetian blinds to me.

Guy- Nice looking tank car. It looks like you collect tank cars like I do coal hoppers.

Dave- Being a logging type RR I would not expect to see much.

Jaz- Is that a bus on a truck frame?

I hope everyone has a good night.

I was one of 2,000 marines on some Navy ships, Sailors had it much better than we did. We did get in some trouble though. When they restocked the mess supplies the boxes came right through our living quarters. The boxes were marked so when we saw peaches etc. we kept it. We opened the overhead duck system and stored everything there. The captain came over the intercom and said, something going on with the ship's airduct system and I think the Marines onboard have something to do with it. What ever you did undo it right now otherwise there's going to be trouble. So now if there wasn't enough room already we had all these boxes to hide.
George

Well I got the new laptop, trying to get use to it. Can't believe how clear the picture is. The YouTube video's are so clear it's like your standing there. The pita part is the passwords that I have to put in this one for my sites that I visit.
Most browsers will offer to save your passwords for your next visit. If you still have your old computer, log into the browsers on it. You may be required to get a user id and password for the browser. After you've done that, open the same browser on the new computer, and sign in to that. The browser will import all your passwords from your old one.

Welp... only got 3,000ish words in before the brain decided to not brain any more.

Stalled at 2,500 so the cat and I took a nap. That was good for another 500 words...

I've got an idea of what to write tomorrow, but I'm heading off to see mom. I'll take the computer with, just in case she's napping and I can get some writing it.

According to my sister and her daughter, Mom was disoriented in the morning, but good in the evening. Still tired all day. Lots of mental fuzz but has time of clarity.

At least she's home, and not where the 90 year old patient in the next bed has to be told IN A VERY LOUD YELL that she "FELL AND BROKE HER HIP! YOU'RE IN THE HOSPITAL. THEY HAD TO OPERATE." Over and over and over. That made it difficult for us to talk with mom. She'd no sooner start to say something then a family member would have to start yelling instructions to poor Dorothy.

We really felt for poor Dorothy in the next bed, but was glad to get mom out of there.
