Dont ya just love Micro$oft? I cant tell you the amount of money i have made because of the wishy-washy way they roll out the "latest and greatest" ...um... Software. Nother day nother dollar!
Agreed. I'm not a Micro$oft fan at all, but that's the environment I have to work with now. I'm a Linux guy at heart but we don't use Linux much at the college right now unfortunately. We have a few Intel NUC's running Ubuntu around the campus for special purposes but the vast majority of equipment is running Windows 10.

Hi,

My name actually is Patrick (Hi Patrick!), and I live in the smallish town of Augusta, KS (and now that you know that I have to kill you!) I work for a much larger town on the south side of Wichita. I'm the father of 35 year old triplets, a 12 year old grandson, 2 9 year old granddaughters, and a nearly 3 year old granddaughter. My wife has put up with me for over 40 years (dating time included), but actually married 39 years at the end of May.

I have a twisted sense of humor (humour for those on the other side of the pond), that I can trace back 3 generations, and fell down the line at least 2 more (my kids and then the grandkids). At least they all come by it honestly.

Mom was doing ok. Took her out for nice lunch and to pickup an order at IKEA.
Hi Patrick!

Good Morning All. Clear and 62°, we're still under a wind advisory until past midnight tonight. But like all day yesterday, it is warm from the south. I still don't like this much wind.:( High today expected to be 86°.
Palm Sunday today, one more week until Easter Sunday.
Once again I spent a good portion of the day yesterday on the tractor, this time mowing the south and southwest parts of the yard. That includes the area over the septic tank and lateral lines which is always tough and time consuming. Next is the northwest and north parts before I tackle the "back 40" over on the west behind the barn.
Even though the low Friday night was just 41°, there may have been some localized frosting that got a few of the tomato plants. It's hard to tell if it's frost or things are just beaten down from the seven days of relentless winds which got up to 45 mph Thursday.

The bio stuff for Dave B, I was born and raised in Brooklyn, temporarily moved to New Orleans with family in '59 when 7 years old and then to Dallas in '61. Started college in Denton TX in '69, met my wife and stayed in the Dallas/Denton area until we bought our present home near the town of Era TX in '81. Been here 41 years. Resumed model railroading in '85 with a lean-to attached to the back of the barn. Built a train shed in 2010 to replace ramshackle train room, joined the forum in 2011, retired at 63 in 2015 and here I am.

Retirement funds - At the time that I had an advisor, not only did he charge a quarterly fee for consultation, The funds that he invested in also charged fees. After I took over self-investment, I discovered just how outrageous some of those fees were. Most years prior to me taking over, he mainly preserved what I had. He had a lot of useless charts and graphs that essentially meant nothing to me in the end.

Thanks for the likes and comments regarding the rehash of the Majestic Hardware scene; Tom, Ib Ken, Steve J, Smudge, Tom O, Curt, Louis, Rick, Gary, Patrick, Guy, Mikey, James.

Well, I did spend a little more time out in the train shed yesterday and did a small project that is on my very long project list.
You have all seen this antique Model Power model of a house that I use as a rooming house. It is one of my first models built over 30 years ago.
IMG_0649.JPG

One thing that has always bothered me was the lack of a railing on one side of the balcony. The model didn't come with one.
IMG_0650.JPG

After first frustratingly searching my stash of styrene stock including the box of cut-offs and scraps in vain, it suddenly came to me to use strip wood instead. It took a little bit of searching and measuring before I came up with the correct size. Success! Then it was trying to match the paint!
I looked and looked for Rail Tie Brown which I thought would best fit, but finally realized that I must have used it all up. Roof Brown was too light, drat, since I found three bottles of it. Then I spotted some containers of Woodland Scenics paint. Looks like Burnt Umber will do, it is close although not an exact match. But after applying the "three foot rule", it will work.
IMG_0653.JPG

OK, another small project off the list!:)
Naturally I went to the next item on the list which is to complete the scene (ground cover, etc) by the Sears Distribution Center.
IMG_0651.JPG

Started with a concrete parking lot between it and the Jalowka Supply Co across the lot. Simple enough, I just painted the bare plywood a concrete color. Since trucks will park there without tractors, it couldn't be asphalt.
IMG_0652.JPG

Next up will be the ground foam and a small concrete pad by the fire door next to the tracks. I intend to attach some structure pictures to the backdrop to complete the scene. Ballasting the tracks out back is a different project for a different day.

Tom - If you haven't experienced a ScaleTrains model before, then you will be quite impressed. If you have had a previous one, then I know why you bought another.
Guy - I ain't no Rembrandt either, I just slather on a green horizon at the bottom of the sky blue backdrop, although I have done some clouds recently.
Incomplete scene showing backdrop.

If I want something more fancy, I print pictures from the Internet and fasten them in place. That's the plan for the scene posted above.

Everyone have a fantastic Sunday.

Good morning all! A sunny and windy 50 degrees out now heading for sunny, windy and 69.

Didn't get a chance to stop by here yesterday. Wound up paying a visit to a convenient care for some kind of infection in my eyes. They've been watering a lot over the last few weeks but finally starting on Friday it became unbearable in my right eye. It just watered constantly all day long and was matted pretty bad when I woke up yesterday. The left eye has it too, but not nearly as bad. Got some prescription eye drops and hoping that will make it better.

Nothing much else going on. Hope you all have a great day!

Morning all,

Been to the grocery store, this morning. Eggs were cheap. Everything else was up...

Looks like we may have peaches as temps have stayed above freezing and forecasts say we're done with frost. At least temps low enough to cause issues.

Thought I sent this a while back. Must have gotten sidetracked. 2 loads of laundry and 24 hard boiled eggs for the week. Tried a different way to boil the eggs, and they peeled really nice. I peel them and stick them in a container in the fridge. Easier to eat or cut into salad (or make egg salad). Lousy if you want to throw them at you neighbors car...😇

Another day to ponder? Nothing seems to have changed to note:
High today is somewhere about 75f.
Still have the thorn of a water valve to repair ...
Still have the tired and worn out MIL to look after ...
Didn't hear from the Spousal Unit yesterday, must be at sea?
Kids didn't bother to see if I am still vertical?
Still need to work on the taxes!

My dad used to always say: "Husbands are a sorry lot!"

I'll take the pups to the park?
Sherrel, you and I have some things in common.
I still have a long list of thing of things to do, including taxes.
My kids think they are sooo busy. Truth is they don't have a clue what busy is!
My advice, focus on what you need to do to stay vertical. At least we can have yet another day to worry about the rest.

On the bright side, it's baseball season!

Have fun with the pups!

I'm in need of confession.
Bless me, I have sinned.
I had a bad week especially considering it is lent.
I got feed up with tailgaters. Waved at several of them one finger at a time. I asked a few to pull over and talk to me about it, no one did.
The final straw, just before dawn a moron layed on the horn, five plus seconds to encourage me to go faster. It was a narrow residential street, no room to pass. I stopped, got out and went off. "Do you need help?" Driver slowly shakes his head no. "Do you know where you are?" Driver looks confused, probably frightened. "You are in Baltimore, one of the most dangerous cities in the country and I am one of the meanest mother f&%$@$ in it! So you better calm the f@#% down!" Then I got back into the car and drove off. I turned after about 100 yards. The other driver was no longer in such a hurry as they had not yet moved.

Ah ok, and don’t feel bad about correcting me, know I have the correct answer,I have seen one when a train was stopped and connected the dots, incorrectly.
Nah! just messing with ya', spent many an hour sitting at train stations doing Rail Replacement work, they use coaches for a couple of reasons, the amount of stuff people carry with them, luggage, pushchairs, bikes etc. And you can fill the Coach to capacity, as everything else is loaded in the lockers underneath.

Afternoon All,

Started with some chores then headed to the train room. I finished the scene I've been working on with the exception of feeding and watering troughs (which I ordered). After that the wife decided I needed to accompany her to Wally World ☹️. She was buying the stuff for the family Easter Dinner. Tomorrow, I have a lot of trees to plant. I'll take photos of the livestock area with it lighted tonight.

Willie- Nice job on your projects.

Louis- Sometimes you do what you have to do, but be careful, as you said Baltimore is a dangerous city.

Guy- Your weather changes look like Florida's does (although no snow here). I look forward to seeing your layout progress.

I hope everyone has a good night.

OK, had a good day all in all, from some comments here today, better than a few members at least, sorry guy's hope everyone's concern's and worries resolve themselves quickly.

Managed to get a bit more work done on the layout, finished removing all the remaining unnecessary feeder's, ground lights and point motors, re-wired my two new Peco point motors, so up and running smoothly. Had to move a couple of my 2 aspect ground lights as the loco's and some of the coaches and freight wagons are fouling them as they traverse the turnouts, (remember, I designed this for UK freight and coaches using 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 loco's as shunters, all of which, are a lot shorter than their US counterparts).

I still have to wire in 3 of the 2 aspect ground lights, at least the wiring is there, so shouldn't be a big job to do.

Haven't started on clearing the area for my new buildings yet, hopefully I'll get to that later in the week as I'm on holiday after tomorrow for a fortnight, and yes Willie, I will post some photo's, but not much to show really at the moment.

I received three new(ish) loco's on Saturday, a Atlas GP7, which has been painted in the red and white SOO livery, (I've wanted one in SOO colours for ages) and a good job done on it too, a Spectrum EMD SD-45, (Northern Pacific) and another Bachmann SD-45 (Southern Pacific). I'll post some photo's of them in the RPO thread later.

That's all from the Midlands in the UK.

G'nite.

Good Afternoon!
Thought I'd step in for a coffee while waiting for paint to dry.

Willie - I've always liked your background hills painting. It reminds me of the works done by the 'Group of Seven' here in Canada. You do landscapes that look like their work.

Louis - I never took you for a road-rage type of driver. Confession's won't help that, I'm afraid. Sitting on a hillside in the outdoors and breathing in some clean air will.

Curt - I really like the stock yard and what you've done with the retired railcar. Actually, I was thinking about doing something like that on mine. It seems like a good idea to busy up an other wise open space. - The red Ford pickup looks bigger than the other vehicles. Is it a 1/64 dinky toy?

I'm going to show a few more photos of my layout building ready space. I promise this will be the last of them, until I get some layout built. At least, these will be the last area photos.
This is the space I started with, back in February, 2021:

Obviously, the project hasn't gone very quickly!

None-the-less, here is the layout ready space today.
Photos are taken from as far back as I can get on the different angles. These are the maximum area type photos I can achieve in this space, with my current camera lens.

I'm going to spend the rest of the day figuring out track. There never was a real plan. Just intend to head west and see what happens. I did build myself some track templates out of cardboard; 26,28,30, and 32" radius by 24" long. - I'm going to play for the rest of the day!

Have a good one!!

Same here before I laid any track except the staging yard. Whole lot easier than using the wooden yardstick with the holes in it; although I used it to lay out the curves while the cardboard rested on a whole 4'x8' sheet of plywood. I mostly used the 30" and 32". When I did one at 34", I laid it out against the outside of the 32" template.
