Justin - Those are some nice photos you posted. Like the shot of the steamer.

Curt - Nice work on the coal dock. Coming along nicely.

Here's a video taken exactly where I like to go train watching. For some reason the video starts half way through the video so you can set it to the beginning to watch the whole thing. Right in my own back yard. It was taken between Livingston, MT and Bozeman, MT over Bozeman Pass. The road you'll see in the background at the tunnel is Interstate 90, the road I hate to drive at night in the winter. A great area to train watch because of the slower speeds. At the end of the video where the grain train is sitting, you can see the old Northern Pacific depot behind the train where my model railroad club is. I was going to take some video next summer but this guy has done it for me.

Good Afternoon Everyone. Taking a hydration break from outdoor tasks. The forecast high temperature for today was 71°. WOW! It's 79° already. No wonder I feel like a burnt weenie sandwich! Guess that it's time to head for the train shed.

Good Afternoon Everyone...overcast again in this part of Wisconsin.

Well, again never made it to the train layout with my time being taken up by the final tax preparation and new health insurance for the Mrs., but did visit the Forum a few times. Just now need to purchased some large envelopes to mail the taxes and write the checks. Tomorrow,, I'll head straight to the layout after I get up from a night's rest.

Glad I had extra ink and paper on hand for printer after printing the tax forms. We received some bad insurance from an insurance company regarding the Mrs health insurance and we ended up paying a lot for the coverage for last year. A little less for 2019, but still paying too much $$$ for health insurance.

Chet: I liked your comment about the Damnocrats. Both political parties need to sit down and work together for the common good of the county.

Justin: Keep your photos coming.

Curt: Nice progress on your coal trestle project.

Willie: Your paper background buildings look great. The Schlitz Beer sign on the brewery is an added touch. It brings back memories when I was young and we would do the brewery tours in Milwaukee. It was an all day adventure to visit Pabst, Blatz, Schlitz and I think Gettleman breweries where we received a short tour and two samples of rather small glasses of free beer. Some breweries even had a free lunch or snack providing cheese, sausage and crackers. We did the morning tours along with the afternoon tours at each of the four breweries. A cheap day of drinks and food when money was short.

When making $1.05/hr and working 25 hours a week...a $1.50 six pack was expensive...!

Willie:
I'm in the process of adding Walther's Horizons paper backgrounds to a section of my layout. Maybe I'll add a beer sign or two to the paper backgrounds I'm installing on the layout.

It all almost Miller Time here in Wisconsin. Brost!

Later.....

Greg

Good evening, everybody !

Building models Vs. Operating trains Vs. Collecting. .... My two cents . I think people get more pleasure from what they build than what they just own. That said, my layout is large enough and my roster is large enough so I can't build everything for it. So I have a mix of models I made and models I did not make. Some of mine were RTR, but I added details and modified them. Some are kit bashed. .... When I run trains, I can have either an operating session or a running session. The operating session is an attempt to simulate real railroad operations. A running session is when I run any train i want to run around the track without stopping to switch cars at industries or terminals.

Dave LASM ... Thanks for commenting on my photo. I certainly like your Grizzly Flats scene.

Willie .... Your building flat against the wall looks great. Yes, I have used box tops from building kits in some of my backdrops. I have cut out printed buildings from other sources too including Walthers backdrops. Some of mine are from old calendars or magazines.

Johnny .... I like the Athearn Genesis locomotives I ink, too.

Chet .
.... Lohan Valley 45 is a nice looking 2-6-2. I bet you had fun putting it together. Thanks for commenting on my Prairie . .... Nice video of the MRL and BNSF.

Justin ... Good to hear you have your priorities correct. Family comes before hobbies. From what you have showed us, you have plenty of locomotives. The C&O spreader looks like it has not been in the paint shop for at least 20 years.

Tom .... Your video certainly is exhausting. Thanks for sharing it.

Willie (again) ..... In this photo you can see my building flats against the wall in the background. Some are from boxtops of building kits (behind the streetcar) and some are from Walthers paper backdrops (to the left) . The sky is on a Faller backdrop.

Whooo! Whole lotta smoke there, Tom!
Yep,and those units are dirty.A lot of heavy weathering If you model mountain and tunnels on a layout.

Good morning.....The weather guessers were predicting rain and sleet starting around 3 am.Glad they're wrong on that one.

I am really fed up with the Damnocrats. Instead of trying to face many issues that the country is facing, such as the immigration problem, they are acting like a bunch of sore loser grade school kids with their investigations. I just can't believe that they refuse to work together to work on more serious problems that they were elected for. Later.

Chet, I am one of those so called Damnocrats and I don't take kindly to your placing all the blame on on my side of the political spectrum! It takes two to tango and two sides to make war! However, I will agree that both sides need to start working together!

I will go no farther with this discussion as it has no place in a Model Railroad Forum and believe me I have much more to discuss!!!

Good Morning All. 50° and quite foggy to start the day here. The thundershower yesterday left .2" in the gauge; the Weather Underground station a mile away received 0". At least it was enough to settle the dust on our gravel road, for a day.

Thanks for the recent comments and likes, Johnny, Mark, Chet, Dave, Phil, Curt, Greg, Karl, Tom, Garry, and anyone else whom I may have overlooked.

Yesterday in the train shed, I did a little of everything. Ran trains, enhanced ground foam and added weeds in the latest scenery project, cut out and began assembling the Oakleaf Industries kit, and when there was glue drying everywhere else, I painted about four feet of track. Nothing like a wet morning to make progress on the layout. Piddled around a bit with the placement of the backdrop picture but haven't mounted it permanently yet.

Here's a couple of random shots that I don't think that I have posted before. First is a DPM Gold Series kit of Drywell Inks. Figures and vehicles are from my collection. Not visible in this picture is the solvent tank unloading area behind the structure..

Here's a scene alongside the main drag in the town of Vernon. Train will be taking the main line to the right.

Curt - You made great progress on the coal trestle. Looks great. Excuse my ignorance here since I don't model anything similar, but what keeps the coal car from running off the end? Surely not those two men! Or is that a bumper at the end of the track? I cannot really tell from the pictures.
Garry - Yes, I thought it was you using box pictures. Nice job on yours. You posted a pretty busy interchange there.

A short comment here on current affairs. Come to Texas to see the immigration crisis. It is not the Mexicans, they have been part of our culture here for several hundred years. It is the newer arrivals from Central America that are causing a multitude of issues. Many of them are not here due to economic reasons or to join existing family members already here. Many are sickly and many are violent criminals; most are being paid by someone to come here. Look at their shoes, the poor cannot afford those $125 Nike shoes. It has been suggested that drug cartels are using them as a diversionary tactic to other activities elsewhere. I'm sure that Sherrel is seeing the same in his area. At least here in Texas, Mexican immigrants have a job within a week and learn English quickly, the latest immigrants almost never get a job and are mostly supported by charitable organizations until they can get to CA or IL. Texas is pretty meager when it comes to state benefits to non-residents.

Everybody have a great Friday. I will.

Good morning y'all. Happy Friday! 40°, cloudy with rain beginning any time now.

Garry: I like the way you used the commercial background box images to form a back drop. Willie's use of Tomcat's images works the same way, the difference is in the nature of the scene you are trying to convey. I have experimented with photos, with mixed results, but I'm still trying

Morning all,

Big breakfast this morning Flo as I have yard work to get to after work. 2nd mowing this year for the new yard I put in last fall and I need to get the sprinkler system started up. 5 years in the house with a broken system and I finally got it working last fall only to have to winterize it a week later.

First world problems....lol

Supposed to be sunny and 75 today.

Willie: Nice work! We used to drill a customer, Flint Ink, in Dayton, NJ. which received Carbon Black in specialty covered hoppers like those recently imported by Scale Trains in HO. They used a hose and vaculator to unload the cars off to the side of the building.

it's something easily incorporated without a lot of infrastructure.

Good morning everyone. 50 and cloudy/rainy out there. Got to get through a rainy Saturday, then things improve for a few days.

Garry - I'll let you know how the new loco runs when it gets here. I'm looking forward to it.
Chet - as always, nice photos of your layout.
Willie - keep those photos coming - it's looking great. I've got to visit your barn some day.

Saw those coffee photos earlier: Here's mine:
Coffee mug on right - what I drink at my desk. Coffee mug on the left - what I take to meetings!

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning. 37 degrees to start off the day with partly cloudy skies. We actually got above 60 degrees for the first time this year, up to 62 degrees. My glaciers are slowly shrinking.

Tom - Cool video. The EPA would have a fit if that happened today. I can well remember seeing this at the top of Bozeman Pass years ago. This is a great area for rail fanning. In Livingston, any outbound westbound trains sit right next to the old NP depot where my club is. There's a lot to see right there. Can't get over all of the different power that I have seen there. Kansas City Southern, N&W, CSX and many others. During daylight hours I realy enjoy watching trains going over the pass in both directions. Looking forward to when the club starts their Thursday afternoon operating sessions again. They are tied into when the museum is open in the main part of the old depot.

Garry - Another fantastic photo. Please keep them coming.

Johnny - In many cases, a DCC locomotive will work on a DC layout. My Walthers Mainline F-7 A and B units are outstanding runners as well as the SD-9. They will take a higher voltage to get them moving compared to a DC locomotive, but I am quite satisfied with the way most DCC locomotives run on my DC layout. Some take a bit of getting used to. In my signature at the bottom is a Bachmann DCC locomotive doing some switching in Churchill on my layout.

Spent a lot of time down in the train room yesterday as I am starting to get bored with the limited use of my arm. Good mental therapy. Here's a shot of my little GE 44 tonner pulling loaded reefers out of the meat packing plant. I think this little locomotive is probably around 20 years old but still runs like a gem.

I will be back down in the train room again shortly.

Friday fellers! I see there has been some political triggering in here. I won't even touch that. Being a veteran I know the game and don't think kindly for any of them. So yeah back to trains. The spreader I posted from yesterday calls Quinnimont WV home. It is posted on a spur just off the yard tracks there. It has been sent to the NF&G railroad for some work as well during winter. As far as I know it still sports Chessie paint with CSXT now stenciled on it. Come to think of it there are two spreaders along the New River sub that I can think of. The other I'm thinking is housed in Huntington WV at the yard there. Anyways enough rambling. Some more pics for y'all to enjoy!
