Good morning all! It's mostly clear and 33 heading on up to 53 and mostly cloudy. Flo: Black coffee and don't stop bringing it.
Heading in to work this morning expecting a busy day. Seems like we've been really busy the last few days in particular.
After work we're hosting my grandsons birthday party. The kid is 14 today and that just blows my mind. No way he can be that old. His little sister will be 11 next month and my oldest granddaughter, cousin to them will be 19 next month. How did they all get so old overnight?
Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning. It's clear and 24.
I have found something that is definitely better with the new company. The health insurance. Even the "worst" coverage offered is significantly better in every way than what I currently have. And it's less than $20 a week, versus nearly $80.

That is good news about the insurance situation Terry. I'm paying about $600 a month out of my check to cover my wife and me both. It would be a lot less if it was only me, but we both need the coverage so that's what I'm stuck with. It's not bad coverage though, so I can't complain too much.

Good morning y'all.

Flo- I'll have the usual, and coffee while I wait.

It's currently 33 with a forecasted high of 55. Supposed to be clear, but right now it is dark. It should turn to widely scattered light in a few hours though.

Terry- Glad the work situation seems to be working out in your favor. And getting better coverage for cheaper is always a good thing.

Modeling Update- I spent a little time on The Row last night. I will update with pics soon, as they are on my phone and I am not. I started putting up the interior walls on the ground floor. Soon I will need to paint and furnish the shops so I can start on the second floor. I'm going to look into ordering lights soon, as the lower level will need to be installed before I can finish the second floor. I'm also going to see what I can find to detail the interiors with. I'm thinking that one unit may be the newspaper office, but I haven't decided on the other two yet.

I'm going to take my coffee to the corner so I can surf the interwebs for ideas.

Y'all have a blessed day.

Morning all!

Flo: mo coffee please.

Nothing done yesterday with the train cave. Had to do a 'geographical' go find stuff with the wife. We have a 'helper' that lives in a small bedroom that does most of the heavy lifting around the house in exchange for rent. Wife wants him out. We realized that there is no way he can afford rent around here: seems all of the slum lords are in cahoots and have raised the rents to way more than an actual house payment. So, got a 33ft 5th wheel that will work. Older model but everything works and it doesn't leak. Yes, gonna charge him rent now - $400 should work for him. For the winter we will put it about 40ft from the house which is close to the dark water clean-out, run 20Amp and fresh water to it. Spring is ( hopefully ) build a garage time and we will reposition the 5th further away from the house with proper sewer, water and power hook-ups.

Planning on playing with a deck mock-up so I can determine my deck heights to something I am comfortable with. Should not take to awful long - right? Still moving stuff around and actually throwing some away. It will get there.

Wife woke up last night complaining about cramps in the calf - told her 'I did not know we had a cow'. Woops; hence the 'mo coffee' Flo.

Chilly morning today. Frost across the lawn.
Got a friend and his wife coming in today from Gadsden, AL to stay till Wed. He got me going on expanding my previous layout back in 1987 to use the entire basement. I've been installing sound decoders in a few of his locomotives for him. He'll be testing them on the empire here. He models the Hobocan terminal back home but the great southwest is OK too.

Morning all,

Been up since 3:30 worked 2 hours at home and then came into the office. Some things I can't do from home.

Extra hours before Christmas is always good!!

I was on earlier but didn't leave a message...place was kind of empty. We both got our covid boosters yesterday. Had them scheduled for next week, but the wife got off very early yesterday, so we got them early. So far so good for me. I expressed to the kids that I wasn't liking the pin cushion year of 2021. 3 covid shots, 2 shingles shots, and 1 each of the flu and tetanus.

Currently 40° and partly cloudy, high near 60° today.

Terry, sounds like you got the significant increase in compensation that had been long over due!

Good Morning!

A weird day with another storm blowing in. Starting out at 26f and cooling off considerably as the day progresses with the storms arrival.
I expect to be shoveling again come 5pm.
I love the lights! Are those color lights C9 incandescent lights?
Louis - All the lights are LED. The top string is actually all colored green, red, blue, yellow; I don't know why they show up white in a photo. - I installed a dedicated 20amp outdoor plug with an indoor switch for all the lights, but, the LED's draw very little current. Thanks for commenting.

Ken - Very neat witch-doctory in regards to adding smoke to you're photos.

Mikey - Thankyou for posting all the Talladega photos. It's a pleasure to see what's built in other places. There seems to be a good quantity of preserved caboose's around. We have one close to here, that I've photographed and posted a couple of times.

Jesse - I like what you are doing to the merchants row project. Keep the photos coming!

Thanks for the likes on these simple posts. Sadly, I have no photos to share today. Perhaps, I'll have something for tomorrow!

Have a good one!

Good morning gang!

Yesterday was a zoo at work. A combination of a shortage of technicians, parts, patience and a full moon. That and being a bit down over Garry's passing caused me to stop at the liquor store on the way home last night. Funny thing, I didn't imbibe. Getting greeted by 2 happy pups and a smiling wife kinda sidelined that thought.

Much more peaceful at work today.

I did briefly mess with 2 Greg's Garage kits last night, hope to finish them Sunday. Then time to clean off the workbench, move the display cases, then move the workbench and the computer table in preparation of finally starting layout construction!!

Good Morning All. Clear and 47° in this part of the world. Should warm up considerably today to 75° and then return to more seasonable mid-60's for most of the next ten days. NWS has removed the thunderstorm chance from our forecast for Thanksgiving. Yesterday, I had to finally open the blue jeans drawer this fall as the temperature started off close to freezing and remained cool all day. It will be off and on shorts and jeans for the next week or two before switching to the jeans until February. We regularly see 75° on Christmas Day though.
My younger daughter and family including the two grandsons came up yesterday to visit grandma and drop off the granddog while they fly out to Philadelphia this morning. From there they drive a short distance to South Jersey for their annual Thanksgiving visit with my SIL's parents. Very nice couple, too bad that they have to live in Jersey. Daughter brought Texas BBQ for supper with her. My twelve year old grandson ate most of it.
Good news regarding my wife's knee surgery is that after the hospital visit yesterday, the next surgery got advanced by four days to 11-30. That is all dependent of course on the lab results from yesterday's procedure.

Thanks as always for the likes and comments regarding the loco line-up yesterday; IB Ken, Patrick, Karl, Steve J, Troy, Chad, Tom O,, Christian, Mikey, Hughie, Jaz, Curt, Sherrel, Rick, Tom, Louis, Joe, OB Ken, Gary.

Good morning Flo. I see that you have leftover chili from yesterday on this morning's white board. I'll take a bowl with cheese and onions with a bowl of spicy salsa.

I had a limited time in the train shed yesterday due to the visitors. Unfortunately my grandsons are no longer as interested in what I am doing out there as they used to be. Even though I let both of them run trains.
My time was not well spent though. I had a train that all cars seemed to derail as they left my upper level staging yard. It turns out that a closure rail on an Atlas #6 switch had detached! I fiddled with it for a while to no avail; it appears that I will have to remove it for either repair or replacement. It happens to be in an unballasted part of the trackwork, and since I use only track nails, that shouldn't be hard to do. I haven't looked to see if I have a replacement. It is a RH, but I don't know whether the only one that I have left is RH or LH.
Not having any project update photos to post today, leaves a few from the archives. They're not really archive photos since they are of the present state of the layout.
Here's an "end-on" view of the Maultown Industrial Park on the blob at the end of the upper level island. That train is waiting on the passing siding. Along the wall on the far left is the town of Charlottesville named after my granddaughter.

In the back and on the right is the town of Vernon named after my late father-in-law.

Here's a cropped shot of most of Vernon.

On the lower level blob, there is the not yet completed downtown Ft Wish.

This is an older picture before I added the figures to the bus station last month.
Note that I have not yet added the fascia to the upper level blob yet. I am still debating with myself whether or not to have it extend above the ground level. In the five years since the track was laid, I have not had a single derailment on either the inner passing siding or the outer main line. The lower level one (which is incomplete on the right at this point) is extended 1" above, but that is mainly to prevent body parts and clothing from snagging anything there. No derailments there either.

Patrick - I am no stranger to cooking turkeys, both in the oven and deep-fried. But this is the first time cooking the whole meal by myself. I start tomorrow with making some homemade cornbread for the eventual dressing. Monday I will make the whole cranberry sauce to get that out of the way. As a Yankee by birth, I like white-bread/sage dressing, but in deference to my Southern wife I will make cornbread dressing. I am really going to miss going to my brother's home with the rest of the extended family this year. I always chop up the boiled giblets and add them to the gravy with the broth. The neck goes to the vultures that live in my barn loft. They eventually get the carcass as well.
I am also regularly on the forum for a couple of hours before I get around to posting. It also sometimes takes me a lot of time responding/composing before I hit "Post Reply".
Guy - I also missed the moon thing, but it was because sleep is more important to me. It was clear all night here, hence the near freeze yesterday morning.
I thought that I read that if one travels through Washington to access South Vancouver that a Covid test was required to return to Canada?
I didn't ask or care whether the workers were illegal or not. I suspect that a couple were, but they may have had Green Cards allowing them to work. But they did a fine job and it is not uncommon to have them here. For the most part, we have lived with that reality for the last 50 years in Texas. They have jobs, so they are paying taxes including sales tax and property taxes through their rental payments. It is not the Mexican immigrants that give us problems in Texas. They all tend to be law-abiding, Christian, family oriented and to the surprise and dismay of some politicians, they also vote conservatively.
Curt - I am in agreement that I like the blue/yellow paint scheme better than the red/silver. But they are both outstanding in my opinion. To me, a close third is the cream/orange of the Frisco (SLSF).
OB Ken - Enjoy the party.

And sometimes I forget to hit the "post Reply" icon like this morning!!! Duh!!!
Everybody have a great day and weekend. Stay safe.

Afternoon All,

This morning MOH and daughter took off to do the pre-holiday commissary run at Patrick AFB (I believe it's part of the space force now:rolleyes:). I spent about 3 hours on the layout. I put in a 30" x 12" triangle of the combo dirt ground cover then green WS ground cover in spots. I also put in the base of the dirt road and parking lot. Tomorrow I hope to do the static grass and finish the dirt road.

IB Ken- Neat scene. Somehow I missed the video so I went back and watched it. I really liked the slag car being dumped and the smoke/steam coming out of the cars.

Mikey- Nice photo.

Terry- Finally some good news for you.

Jesse- You're making good progress. I look forward to seeing your progress.

Tod- The deck of my layout is 43" tall and very comfortable to work on and operate.

Willie- Nice layout panorama.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good afternoon.
Lunch time here. Since posting this morning, the temperature has dropped 14 degrees, and the winds are constant. There isn't much snow falling, but that wind is making it miserable.

I thought that I read that if one travels through Washington to access South Vancouver that a Covid test was required to return to Canada?
Willie - I guess the new deal is that one must be fully vaccinated, and you are allowed a 3 day trip across the border before you require a negative test. If trucks are rerouted into Washington, it adds an extra 5-7hrs onto a trip to the coast. - How wide is the radius at the end of the Maultown Industrial 'blob'?

I'm just in for a warm-up, and need to go out and shovel once again.

See ya'll later.

Mikey - Thankyou for posting all the Talladega photos. It's a pleasure to see what's built in other places. There seems to be a good quantity of preserved caboose's around. We have one close to here, that I've photographed and posted a couple of times.
McLeod- Thanks for your observations.
I have traveled the US a little bit, but rarely see the type of buildings we normally model for the 1950's transition era in such good condition.
Talladega has renovated the buildings around the courthouse square and only a couple buildings did not have occupants. I only saw a few homes in the downtown area in need of renovation and several were being worked on.
My father lived in Talladega about 1931, when the largest employers were Talladega College, Talladega School for the Blind, a cotton gin and a large dairy farm.

McLeod - Been up and down into Canada *many* times in the last year. We have no problems or delay cuz of covid using the Niagara crossing going up, Detroit coming back down. Maybe the west coast is different than the east?

Santafewillie - nice shots of your lay. What are your deck heights ifn ya don't mind me asking?
