When ya say, don't ignor health issues, do ya make a doctor appointment or visit the acute care clinuc with every ache and pain ya encounter?
Ken, that is a question I'm unfit to answer. My own personal track record proves it.

I have developed a high tolerance to pain. I have had arthritis since I was 13, I now have several chronic conditions, pain is a normal part of my day.

Sometimes I've been my own worst enemy. Putting things off seldom, if ever has worked out well for me. At least I no longer wait to need an ambulance to take me to the doctor. In the future I will no longer wait for my regular doctor visit to tell my primary care doctor what's going on. Like my primary care doctor said "the phone is quick and cheap".

All I can say is if something is persistently bothering you, get it checked out, better safe then sorry.

I suppose it has to be up to each of us individually. Live and learn, personally I have been a very slow learner when it comes to health issues.

For me I need to look at it like long term economic decisions. God knows I've lost hundreds of thousands over the years by putting off health problems. Probably much more, that was just in medical bills. Losing a few days or weeks may have prevented me from losing years.

"He who hesitates is lost, Swift and resolute action leads to success"

You think i would know better by now! I'm learning, slow but sure. I think we all know what we need to do, just don't be like me and ignore it.

I wish you the best.

Good morning, y'all. It appears that it is true what they say about not being able to stop progress. I tried to hold on to the weekend just a little longer, yet her I sit realizing that it is intend Monday once again. Oh well, perhaps next weekend my grip will be stronger. Time to get down to it I suppose.

The Weather- Currently we are sitting at 41 with a 'feels like' of 38. High for the day is 58 and sunny.

Flo- I'll have a coffee and the usual. Yes, that's right, bacon and lots of it.

I see the picture folks have been busy over the weekend. Nice work, all. I do not have any at the moment, but I did make progress on building the interior partitions in the Merchants Row. I had to glue 2 of the outer walls in place so that I could measure off the interior wall supports, largely due to the fact that God decided man only needed 2 hands, so I will now have to paint them in place rather than individually as I had hoped. That's ok though. I have no paint at the moment, nor a workstation I could leave it on while the paint dries. I know that it will take a couple of coats inside to keep the building from glowing when I install the LED lighting. Plus I still have to find/make furniture for each shop and upstairs living quarters. I still haven't settled on what each unit will be, but I know I will have to look for my lighting system soon. That will determine how much detail I can put into the upper floor. My goal is to have each apartment separated into a kitchen/living area (probably with Murphy bed style sleeping arrangements) and a bathroom. There will also have to be a small landing area for the stairs. Granted these are big wants that may not come to fruition, but without lofty aspirations life would be rather dull, right?

I will hopefully be able to update with pictures later. Today won't be a late day at work. My son has his first Pee-Wee basketball game this afternoon, so I'm only going in for half a day. After the 73 hours I put in last week, today is going to feel like a cakewalk. The rest of the week is going to be busy though. We have a driver out on Covid quarantine, so I'll be covering his route this week. At least I'll be in Charlotte, which means home every night. I have 2 weeks before my next out of town runs to Fayetteville and back to Raleigh. The traveling is tough, but the money sure is helping deal with it. And it's going a long way toward getting some stability while preparing the new homestead.

Y'all have a blessed day. I have to go get my boy ready for school now.

Good morning all! Fair and 29 heading up to cloudy and 47 for the day. Lots and lots of black coffee please, Flo.

Been a busy couple of days. I had Saturday off and planned to stay home and do nothing. My oldest granddaughter called that afternoon in tears because her car keys were lost or stolen while she was at work and had no other key to get it going. We went down there and got a locksmith to come from distance to make a new key for her. $234 later we had some keys. We went home and I went to bed since I had to be up early for work yesterday. She texted me at about 1:00 am and said the car won't start. A co-worker took her home and I went to take a look yesterday after work, despite my total lack of auto mechanic ability. I managed to get it running by cranking the engine constantly while alternating full throttle and no throttle. I didn't want to take a chance on her trying to drive it home, so I left her my truck and I drove hers home. The Service Engine light is on, so gotta get it in to a mechanic to see what's going on.

Gotta finish my coffee and get ready for work now. Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning and howdy there internet cafe dwellers

It's Troy again

Yesterday I crawled into the writing bunker. Nothing like a deadline two days out to motivate oneself.

But, I typed The End at the end (Typing The End in the middle doesn't count!), made a celebratory Mai Tai at about 9 pm... then dove back in and fixed some holes in the big reveal at the end of the book with dots I had neglected to connect to other dots. So my total for yesterday was about 9,000+

That's 1/6th of the book in one day. Why did the rest of the book take over 30 days to write?

I've werded enuff wordz. I reede fer now. ;)

Morning all,

43° and clear going for an above average high of 72° today. Tomorrow is going to be the same.
Been busy since I got in at 5:45 this morning playing catchup from being off on Friday when everyone else was here.

Patrick- Looks like the left rail at the pivot point of that switch is off a bit. Those Atlas switch riviots loosen over time and can flex enough to cause a problem.
It's a little up and down between the tracks that doesn't seem to catch cars and isn't usually a problem area. It is amplified due to my getting a closeup in the picture.

What's funny is once I eliminated the sectional track everything except another more modern 6 axle locomotive run fantastically, even my little 0-6-0 Mantua steam switcher, forwards and backwards.

Good Morning All. Looks like clear and 43° on the back porch this morning. Expecting mild weather for a few days with the afternoon highs near 80° for the next three days. Then cooler but still dry after a cold front comes in around midnight Wednesday.

Overloaded with household tasks yesterday, two loads of laundry, emptied the dishwasher, sorta cleaned one bathroom, vacuumed three rooms and fixed carnitas for supper. I also helped my wife make some soup for the freezer. Fortunately she is requiring a little less care, mainly due to pacing herself and no longer attempting certain things. Friday she goes to the hospital for something called an aspiration, where they draw fluids from her knee to ascertain that she can proceed with the surgery scheduled for 12-3.

Outdoor Christmas lights - I put some up about 30 years ago, and my wife and one daughter made some negative comments. So I immediately took them down and never again. Sometimes issues resolve themselves rapidly!

Speaking of my wife, she broke a tooth Friday night and we'll be visiting the dentist this morning. Our dentist is always available for his patients. She called and left a message on their machine around 5:30 pm, and about two hours later the office manager called and set up an appointment for this morning. Now, that's service. Since she's still unable to drive, guess where I will be this morning.

Thanks for the comments and likes regarding some of my recent posts; Hughie, Christian, Patrick, Greg, Guy, IB Ken, Karl, Curt, Rick, Sherrel, Louis, Joe, Tom, Jerry.

Good Morning Flo. How about a chicken fried steak with southern cream gravy and some grits this morning. Make it a sugar free A&W Root Beer to go with it. OJ just doesn't go with CFS.

Well, another shortened day in the train shed yesterday, typical for a Sunday. I resumed painting a few figures. Some of these Chinese figures are rather tall!

Shouldn't really be noticeable on the layout with proper placement.
Then I made an emergency repair on one of my GP40X's that broke while my granddaughter was running it Saturday. i am not sure why it broke as there was no misuse involved. The truck sideframe just broke off.
IMG_8257.JPG

The mounting peg is lodged in the truck. So for the benefit of those who have never had to repair an Athearn sideframe before, here is a brief tutorial.
Note the green label on the bottom of the fuel tank. I use that to note when the most recent maintenance was done so I don't have to rely on memory or look it up.
Since the peg cannot be easily removed, I drilled a .020" hole in both the stuck peg and the sideframe itself.

Then I inserted and super-glued a piece of wire into the sideframe.
IMG_8260.JPG

From there, I trimmed it to about a quarter inch and press-fit into the peg.
IMG_8261.JPG

I did not glue it because I want to be able to remove it if and when any maintenance is needed on the truck, and the length pretty much held in place. I did however, use some Scenic Accents glue on it just in case. That's a non-permanent stick-um type of glue that I normally use for roofs and figures.

Jaz - Thanks for the response regarding the telephone wire. As I posted, I use it only for sending 5v signals to and from the walk-around throttle command station, not for track power for which I use 18 gauge. I also use some for lighting structures, which while it is 12v, it is a very low amperage. I should be more than safe. I have far more than I will ever use that was all salvaged from one of our remote factory locations.
Hughie -
of coarse you miss shopping Black Friday cause your hanging lights.
That could be a good thing in my opinion.
Greg - Yes, that model of Pizzaland is an exact model of the establishment on The Sopranos.

Today is National Recycling Day. Do your share.
Everybody have a great Monday. Stay safe.

Good Morning!

The weather guesser is suggesting we'll be getting 15cm of snow on this day, although, here at 7:30am none is presently falling. It's 22f out there.
Yesterday was the first snowfall of the season:
1stSnow_11-14-2021.jpg

I used that little bit of snowfall as an excuse why it's not a good idea to go out there and hang Christmas lights. It worked! So now, I'll wait for a nicer day.

I'm going down into the basement and continue work on the train room reno.
Have a great day!

Man - - -- two full days away, and there is 5 pages of new posts. Can't possibly read through all that, so if anyone made some specific replies to me, please quote the post and I will read it and the original.

I do hope for concrete help with that one loco.

Pulled the trigger on the double slip switch Friday. Yankee dabbler shopped it same day!

The weekend retreat was absolutely wonderful!! Evening meeting Tues Wed and Thurs - - - sigh. But hope to commence layou construction maybe on Friday.

Blessings to all! - - - - - - - Steve J

Greetings RR folks!
Only reached a high of 89F yesterday which I consider a good thing. With all the "earth" folks - I don't like to see any new records set. Today is a more normal forecast of 86F for this date.
FLO - This morning I would like to have the same as WILLIE. I will even try the Root Beer also!

OK- Now what? Bold is stuck on my MAC - WTF!

bbl!

Drywall mud is used to fill in holes and seams in drywall.

I don't know if French houses are like German houses. If so, drywall could be somewhat foreign. Drywall is the gypsum (chalk) board used in houses that are framed with wood to cover the walls. You use drywall mud to fill in holes and cracks and make things nice and smooth to be painted or otherwise covered (does anyone still use wall paper?)

A few pics will explain better than me (hope so...):
