catch the Northern lights? I finally gave up around midnight and didn't see anything. They said
due to the Canadian fire smoke hase, we might not get a glimpse.
Naturally, any time nature puts on a show, it's cloudy or smoky or foggy or something. All I could see looking North was the street light and the trees which are quite tall. Saw a weather advisory for last night with a frost warning for NW Jersey, Northern tier of PA and Southern tier of NY State. I Imagine where the son lives it was even cooler. (Heat came on overnight and still....when summer finally gets here, I have a feeling it will be hotter than it has been).

For those who missed the Northern Lights.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy here and 72°. Looks like we might hit 92° today before cooling back off tomorrow. Only hit 88° yesterday. Will probably rain again overnight tomorrow.

I did get a couple of things done yesterday that I had planned. Mowed the last (south) part of the yard and started with the onion harvest. I stepped over to the Jalapeno plants and picked a handful of them.
1748865575203.png

I did not get to removing the green pea plants, instead I loaded up the cart with A/C packaging, and other assorted trash and debris for the dumpster. Then I loaded the cart back up with a load of firewood that I had extracted from the undergrowth a couple of weeks ago, and hauled it over to the woodpile. Most of the logs need to be cut down to 14"-16" lengths before stacking and many of them also will need splitting. The lumberjacks that I hired didn't quite understand the 16" length part. This stuff came from a tree with a 14" diameter trunk, which will fit through the door of the stove, but it's too heavy for my wife to load if I'm not available.
Today is still up in the air as to what I end up doing, but it will probably all be outdoors. Since it is just me and the granddogs right now, laundry and dishes are minimal. I do need to check out what I can with the battery powered push mower. Battery is fully charged and it starts, but only runs for 6-8 seconds before shutting off. And that's without going anywhere. Poor old mower just hasn't been the same since it got an unexpected flight during last year's tornado.

I didn't spend a lot of time out in the train shed yesterday. What little time that I did was spent on moving stuff back in place after the new A/C install. It's working much better than the old one; it should since it's 7,000 BTU's bigger!

Tom O - $3.90/gal is still outrageous for gas, even though it isn't close to Kalifornia prices. Ours is still hovering in the $2.59/gal here. Admittedly, we are closer to the source and the refineries. It's too bad for consumers that they are shutting down refineries all along the Left Coast.
Mike - Wife got the dog paw washer at Walmart for about $6.
Kids will splash water out of the pool regardless of the level. Just their bobbing around sends it over the skimmer top, even with the not so tight cover in place.
John - I don't know if the paw washer tickles them or not, but neither dog likes me to use it. But they do like it better than being thrown into the shower.
Kusojiji - Me thinks that your boxcar doors are upside down!

Today is the birthday of the late Rolling Stones drummer, Charlie Watts.
Everyone have a wonderful Monday. Stay cool and hydrated.

about gas :)

A Gallon is more or less 3.8 Liters.
The price of Fuel in switzerland is around 1l CHF 1.80
CHF 1.80 is around 2.20 $ that would mean a gallon here is around 7$ :D

well..
The gas I had to get for the rental was ¥157 a liter if I understood the sign. That is about a hair under ¥600 for a gallon and that is about $4.18 a gallon.
And I thought $2.99 a gallon was bad! 🤨

Good morning all,

62 and hazy sun. Fires in Canada sending their smoke down. Same Temps forecast here in Minnesota as Willie's in Texas!

I made a lot of progress on my new depot, all the walls made with windows, doors cut out and assembly in progress.

Have to run to the hardware store and get some 2 cycle mix for the chainsaw, will do some wood cutting today too.

Good Morning All!

43F @ 54% clear. Might make 70F later today.

Gawd, a 427 in a Bronco II? Probably would tip over frontwards when ya get out of it. The powers that be say a 351M/W will fit, but tight. I am not looking at racing or rock climbing with the thing, pretty much for cruising around and some 4x4'n. 2" lift makes stuff much easier. There are a ton of dead Fords to be found with a T-5/C5, Dana35 and associated 4x4 glue. Going with small carburetor; Holley 600 or the like so I don't have to worry about the brain box for EFI. Should already have 2 fuel pumps: 1 in tank, other on frame rail. Ya, we will see how it goes. Keeping stuff smaller also keeps the axle loading almost the same. Have to look into that more. I don't even think it is rated 1/2 ton. Might happen, might not.

kbkchooch: I have seen 283/327's in S10's of which not much pounding/rearranging needed to happen, 350 might be a tad different as it is a touch wider; the headers make you pound stuff. Those I saw were great looking trucks though. They would really scoot on the flat and dry stuff. Did have rear wheel bounce because of the weight difference if too much power was applied ( fixable ).

My 87 Blazer ( Full size ) has a 454 in it. Does 0 - 60 loosing half the tire tread seconds. One big block in the household is enough, isn't it? It has a ton of room. It also has 3/4 ton frame/drive train/hubs underneath to help with the additional weight. This one is a long term project as it can actually be worth something when cherried out.

Good morning. Good golly did any of you guys sleep last night. Lots of posts already! Vegas is cooling down. 75f degrees now and only 95 this afternoon. That’s another 5 degrees cooler than yesterday.

The pool temperature this morning is at 76 meaning that the shade sails will be in place over the pool. The brother has been walking in the pool but yesterday may have overdone it. He was zonked at 9pm his g/f told me this morning. He is working hard to recover. I will mention it to the Physical Therapist when she gets here at 9.

Terry and my brother are having a stock market chat right now. They both think with the president threatening tariff increases over China again, the market will go down today. Me, I don’t care. I’ll continue my stock review I did Thursday and Friday last week. 4 or 5 reviews today and I’ll be satisfied. I’m bored so I’ll review stocks today. Even my brother, a big believer in the president’s policies has been calling him TACO this morning.

We drove south of Las Vegas yesterday to Primm and then east to Needles, north to Laughlin and home. We skipped Boulder City (done that) and also the Hoover Dam (been there). I’m not a desert or mountain person but the 35+ mile drive was ok. Primm was a nothing with 2 casinos and only a 600’ elevation climb from Vegas per my compass app on the phone. Needles, Ca surprised me. Another nothing town but busy. Plus it was a 1800+ drop in elevation. Going north back to Vegas the traffic was busy but moved along.

We saw Michael Jackson One a Circe Du Soleil show at 9 last night at the Wynn. It was fine, 90 minutes, so worth the investment but not the best of the Circe shows we have seen! If you’ve been to other shows you’ll understand this was is a bit underwhelming where other shows can just blow you away. If this is your 1st show it will probably be a great experience.

The casino at the Wynn was ok. Gambling for me has lost the luster, shine and appeal it once had for me. I used to walk into a casino and the adrenaline rush for me was second to only one other thing! I loved it but I lost so damn much money I’m lucky to still be married to Terry. I lost the equivalent of a sound equipped diesel last night, 1/2 what I took with me. Terry won a bit but we got there early for the show, had a beer after the show in a lounge and left. No gambling after the show. The Son in Law was out here in December and placed some bets. I gave him $50 on the Edmonton Oilers to win the Stanley Cup. I have a chance! Last night I bet $50 on the Cubbies to get to the World Serious ( I know). I haven’t place bets like that since 1990 when I was a gambling fool. Terry approved the December bet and last night’s.

I will talk to the brother about his recovery this morning and if he feels the g/f can assist him adequately enough that I can leave. As I mentioned above, I’m bored! If he wants us to stay we can and will. Neither of us have medical until mid July. He says go to Maui but we both prefer him and the g/f be there but he cannot fly. So we can wait until late August and September. I promised Terry I can handle 3 weeks out there instead of the 10 days I wanted

The Wisconsin Badger Women’s hockey starts the end of September but Volleyball starts earlier. The final schedules are not out yet and VB may determine when we go and for how long. We also have ideas of getting to Vancouver in October as neither of us have been there. I would like to go there when the NHL BlackHawks play the Canucks but the schedules are not out for the 2025-26 season yet. That however is not a requirement. I will not fly to Vancouver in the Winter. We have been told October is a beautiful time to visit there. We are waiting for the NHL schedules to be released as the Son in Law, the grandson, a neighbor friend, the son and me are going either to Toronto to see the Hawks play the Leafs or in Montreal to see the Hawks play the Canadiens (French spelling). We are cramming in a bunch of traveling stuff because of my July stroke messed up our travel plans last Summer/Fall and then Terry had her health issues starting at T-Giving. We feel good now and will take advantage while we can

Enjoy the day

So Chadbag's rental car has a "wa" in front of the 33-39. That indicates a rental. We've been having a few robberies with injuries and death recently with the cars being rentals. Yeah, unfortunate but Japan is not as safe as it used to be. A lot of crimes against the elderly. Either getting scammed, robbed, or whatever. I try to be vigilant and the five cameras I have around the house help. It helped several years ago when a house got robbed up my street. Police came over and asked if my cameras had caught anything. I saw two guys walking up the street empty handed and a couple of minutes later, jogging down with something in one guy's hand. The police said that they only managed to steal a small item in the house's entry way since the owner came down the stairs to check on the noise. I gave them the footage of all the cameras that caught anything.

I have since upgraded to 4k cameras and have IR floods to augment.

Good Morning Again!
Same temp, different time.

In line with Kuso's post - The two friends that clean the Legion had their Navigator stolen out of the parking lot between 0630 and 0730 Saturday. Scott had all the bar doors open at that time to help dry the floor. Didn't hear sh.t, but reported it when they came out and found out. They were told that there was a traffic cam pix of it 45 miles away at 3 mile ( Bonner's Ferry ) about 0800. Everyone assumes that they did not go North towards the border: "license and registration, please". Full coverage so at least he should get something for it. Will see how the insurance company tries to wiggle out of paying. But in Libby? Geesh.

Willie: An old girlfriend had something that looked like your paw washer. It was ...er... never mind. That/those would not work for us as we have a doggie door that both the cats and dogs use and we probably won't be able to train them to 'insert paw, twist and shout'. Been in Tx mud; almost the same as we have here - pretty much sticky clay based. I do like the 'throw them in the shower' statement though.

Found a '87 Bronco II 5 speed 4x4 - body and interior in very good shape. Has oil in the water of which I do not remember ever seeing on any vehicle. Normally, it is water in the oil. Hmmm. Owner thinks blown head gasket. For the $2500 he wants probably worth it, yes will offer a little less - we will see. Still kick myself for selling the '87 Bronco I had when we moved here. This should fix that. Will figure out which head, then go from there. Down the road it is to get a somewhat built 302 - nothing like a V8! If only I could find a inexpensive BOSS 302. They want gold for those!
You could save yourself a lot of time. money, aggravation, and busted knuckles by rebuilding the V6 from the bottom up. Tweak it a little bit and it will run well and get better fuel milage.

nothing like a V8!
I can't disagree with that. The sound of a high compression small block Ford V8 is music to my ears. Even as deaf as I am I can still hear it when one passes by!

If only I could find a inexpensive BOSS 302.
Good luck with that.

Todd, the 351M is a 400, which is both wider and taller than a 351W.
A long time ago, I put a 289 in a Pinto wagon. I had to use the oil pump/pan off a Fairmont 302 to get it to clear everything underneath. While it was fun and rewarding blowing the doors off unsuspecting Camaros, I don't think I'd try it again.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those buying the tariff dips, and selling on the taco recovery.

It's troy again.

We're looking at 71 F-degrees at the moment, and a high expected of 81 f-degree.

A good day for patio sitting!

Spent the morning rebuilding and prepping my Eerie Falls book #1 for the audiobook AI to parse. The master copy of the book was lost in the great hard-drive crash two years ago. And this series was the last of the Cozy Mysteries I needed to rebuild the masters of. I had to convert an Epub to a Word file - fortunately I long ago turned off DRAM (digital protection) on the ebooks. It wasn't worth keeping it going since the pirates laugh at whatever DRAM is current.

And then the audiobook AI service is down today. So, I'll have to find something else to work on.

Probably keep moving the wife's garden around the patio. She figured out if I put the planter boxes on wheels SHE can move them around as the sun moves, to get them their full 8 to 10 hours of sun.
Patio 2.jpg

The zucchini plants produce baseball sized roundish zucchini. She says they're still tasty.

I checked with maintenance today about the insect droppings in my workshop. He said I get to call orkin (free inspection) and if it's termite, then the HOA will probably step in, since they have to make sure the other 9 units aren't affected. If it's not termites, then I have to deal with it.

Wife took a look at the "sawdust" on my worktable, since she had to keep calling the exterminators for termites in her workplace out in California. Wife didn't see any wings, but wasn't sure. So, Wednesday morning the Orkin guy will be out to pronounce judgement.

Bruette: Thought about that but still have to 'bust knuckles' to get it out for machining and such. I would have something that runs while working the 302/whatever and gathering the other necessary parts/glue.

Just for giggles and grins - Boss 302 shortblock $3000 and up, and then the rest of the story - nother $3000 to $4000 depending on intake and such. Nope. They used to make 302 HO's so might do some searching for those.

Terry: Forgot about that. Had a friend in the early 80's with a 351C - he managed to blow it up forgetting to take his foot off the gas when going in the air over a small whoop-de-do. Broke the front driveline and cracked the crank, who knows if the block was stressed or not. So, though he - have other 351's in pile out back and started to go through them for an applicable block switch. Neither of the 3 were identical - don't remember who had what as far as bore and stroke though. Still don't think that I want to play with those, just slightly too big for what I want.

Also, have seen 327's in Vega's. Screamers!

If I were going to buy a big V8 in a small car I would buy a Pontiac G8 with a 6.2L LS3 V8. My son told me they can still be found with low milage for under $20,000. No busted knuckles and fewer unexpected surprises.

Who am I kidding? I love my 4Cyl Equinox. I drive slowly; I've become increasingly boring as I have grown older.

There were 3 different versions of the 351, back in the day.
When the Windsor plant couldn't build enough to meet demand, the Cleveland plant started building their version. Then when there was even more demand for that displacement, Ford took some 400 blocks, added 351 cranks and cams, and used some taller pistons and longer rods to modify the 400 into a 351. That's where the "modified" came from, not modified for performance, but for torque and emmissions.
