maj po (good morning in klingon (latin) per the usoft translator) (didn't know klingons spoke latin...)

It is currently 19 degrees C @ 80% humidity. All 3 guess sites show rain and they are all correct right now.

Need to make it to the base today to pick up my prescriptions and my buddy is giving me his old 3D printer. It's a bambu labs X1C that has an enclosure with a hepa filter. This'll be good so I can print even on rainy days. Going to have to make some room for it.

He upgraded to a H2D that has a laser. it also has an enclosure but he said that when he uses the laser, the smoke still gets out.

He had been helping me with printing out my rolling stock as he had amassed a lot of different flavors of filament. Stuff with wood particles (or at least looks like wood), sparklies, etc.

One thing that I am finding out is that PLA filament has a shelf life. I store them in ziploc bags with dessicant, but they still manage to become brittle. I have a dryer, but once they get too brittle, that's it. I dumped a gray roll as it kept breaking off.

nuqneH.

That's Klingon for "hello". The literal translation is "What do you want?" which makes sense since Klingons are not the most friendly and outgoing race.
We had a severe thunderstorm around lunch time today. It was windy with a good amount of rain. Not too far from me there was hail.
I don't know if Karl has to deal with much of this, but our sales department has become infamous for showing an RV to a customer, opening all the windows and turning on all the lights, then leaving without closing or turning off anything. If the RV isn't plugged in, it will drain the batteries in short order. If it rains, the interior gets drenched. The RV can have the lights on and windows open for days, if not weeks, depending on what and where it is. If the RV has lithium batteries, this can seriously damage the batteries., and of course anything that can be damaged by rain, will be.
I bring this up because in two weeks, I have had to buy two new lithium batteries for RVs the sales department has ruined by this behavior. One battery was $12k. The other was cheaper, at $2500. I also had to replace two powered recliners and a dining room table, along with our carpenter/trim shop having to replace a bunch of wood trim. Our company is not healthy, and can ill afford to just keep spending cash to repair employee negligence. RVs usually have master keys, so we can't lock up the keys like you can cars and trucks. I suggested shock collars for the sales people... I'm looking at losing my job, and a business going under, due to people plainly just not giving a shit, and the pool of potential new hires is even worse than what we have now.

Damned! I can't believe how that happens. I'd say take the damage out of their pockets, but reading further on, they probably live at home and don't give a crap about losing their job.

Can the battery or charge controller be set up to shut down at a certain voltage? yep batteries are expensive.

Me thinks that your boxcar doors are upside down!
Nooooo!!!! all my cars are like that.

You are correct. I just followed the picture that the designer had posted. Looking closely and at an example I found on the interweb, the fine details on the door are the latching mechanism. dang I hope i can get them off without damage, or just leave them as they are all the same...

Problem is, these are not plugged in.
The one with the expensive battery also now has problems with the charging system, and will probably require another several thousand in electronics replacements.
Federal law prohibits paycheck deductions for damages by employees in most circumstances, or I'd be lobbying for some paycheck reduction therapy for those involved.

good afternoon to all...............

I did manage to get about half of my lot mowed yesterday. Used almost a full tank of gas in the old Toro MX 5050. No weed eater action but still required.

Oil and filter change tomorrow afternoon in my 07 Chevy truck and 08 Trailblazer. I'll do these 2 myself but take the Corvette to the oil change place. I have no way to raise the Corvette and its sits way too low for me to even think about getting under.

I'll give the decoder project I'm involved with a bit more attention in about another hour. I have reviewed the ESU adapter board documentation and have noted some changes that I may have overlooked. Wish me luck as I am about ready to put this project on the back burner maybe never to be revisited.

This item arrived today. A pre-order from Trainworld I made about a 18 months ago. I'll have to add a 21 pin decoder to it as it is "DCC ready".
The pre-order price was $221.00. I was billed for $225 plus tax and that suits me just fine. I was sweating the tariff issue so I guess I dodged a bullet.

Everyone have a great evening....John

Good evening.

After this mornings 42°, I was finally able to shut off the heat this afternoon. I changed the filter and we are set up for the AC, which might be needed later in the week. This evening, I vacuumed the dryer vent and duct, to remove the embedded lint. I also sprayed around the AC condenser and where we keep the trash containers for weeds. Amazing how grass that doesn't grow in bare spots in the lawn, will grow in cracks between the Patio blocks. I also cleaned the garage floor, after doing my regular Monday chores, and a shopping excursion to Pet Smart, Lowes. Home Depot and the orchard....where they were completely out of fresh picked strawberries...Due to last week's rains.

I notice the quality of the help,at Lowes, where they can barely watch you check yourself out and pay for your purchases. This is the Covid Generation, and it will get worse before it gets better.

And I thought $2.99 a gallon was bad! 🤨
When we left Utah was around $3.29 at main stream places. 7-15 cents less at Walmart or Murphy and similar. Don’t know what it is now.

Anyone with it in the $2.xx range now is in almost historical lows. Not quite. Around 1998 it hit as low as 80 cents a gallon iirc and with inflation that’s around $1.55 in today’s money per inflation calculators. However I think it really should be a bit more. Anyway your $2.59 that @santafewillie said he had, I think, is about the same as $1.30 back around 99-2000.

Its everywhere!

Our CVS has put in 2 self checkouts and they do have a counter, but no one is ever there manning it. If you have an issue at check-out then you actually have to go find someone to help you fix the issue. By the time you do that and get back, it has already terminated the transaction and locks the machine up. so either way you need a manager or employee. Very frustrating. Especially if you have to run in for a quick bottle of Tylenol or something like that.

The Dollar General is worse. They have 2 registers and only ever have 1 open. Employees will sit in the room behind the registers and watch the line build abd no-one sitting there can be bothered to open up the second register. Their 2 self check-outs have been out of order for months. Not to mention, you cant maneuver around the store because of the carts of merchandise waiting to be put away just sitting. I have seen people get so upset, they just drop their things right in line and walk out.

Does Corporate not hear of these issues or maybe they don't care?

I sadly know the answer to that!

everybody still tele-fing off? money for nothing and their checks for free?

I went to a subway sandwich place and put in a complaint about how their employee making the sandwiches was too busy shooting the cr@p with his buddy in line than to take care of me, the paying customer. He also blasting his boom box, so I couldn't hear what he was saying. After I finally received my order, I saw how filthy the place was, so I took it on the road. I went to their website, cited the location and issue. Manager reached out to me and apologized and said that their employees would be trained. Of course he asked if I wanted anything, but I said no and never went back.

Employees with their nose glued to their phones are a big chunk of the problems!

Don't blame you a bit, sometimes your only vote is with your wallet.

I don't go to any of the 2 stores I mentioned unless its an absolute necessity. We can get same day delivery from Wal-Mart if you order by a certain time. It may cost a little more for some items but the convenience is worth it to me. Saves a bunch of headaches.

Dollar Generals are a mixed bag around here. The one that used to be the closest to me (12 miles away in Sanger TX) was crammed full of re-stock carts and you sometimes couldn't fit a basket through. Only one of the two check-outs are ever open, but I never saw it crowded enough for both to be needed. There's 5 in Denton, 30 miles away, some are like the one in Sanger, others are more wide open, but there's never anyone at the check-out until you ring a bell, and someone might come. The wide-open ones don't seem to have the re-stock buggies blocking the aisles. They just in the last three months opened a brand new one, called DG Market, in the middle of nowhere about six miles down the road from me. It's nestled between a fireworks stand (only open for New Years and July 4), and a private home on the other side. Being so new, they don't have enough merchandise to fill their shelves yet. It does have much wider aisles, but like all of the others, help is hard to spot. They eliminated all of the self check-outs in all of these stores about 8 months ago. While they don't admit it publicly, a manager who I know said it was excessive inventory shrinkage at all of the locations. I have since witnessed several instances of folks walking out with full carts when it took too long for someone to come to operate the register, even after the self check-outs were removed. They apparently developed the habit when the self check-outs were still there.
I only used the one in Sanger because the only grocery store in town was shut down when the highway department called eminent domain on 75% of their parking lot and 18 wheelers could no longer make deliveries.
