Good Morning All. Cloudy still and 68°, maybe going up to 79° later today. 80's and 90's for the next few days.

Headed out this morning for the weekly grocery trek, along with a stop at the Vitamin Shop, hardware store and pharmacy. Going to the local Ace Hardware because I can get assistance there, whereas I'm on my own at HD. I need a new aerator for the kitchen sink. Plus I can park within 20' of the door! Hopefully this light breeze this morning dries things up after Tuesday's rain so I can get back to mowing and weedeating.

Uneventful day here yesterday that culminated with burgers on the grill for supper

Out in the train shed yesterday, it was fencing day. I installed this barbed-wire fence on the backside of the main line through the latest project section. It's from Woodland Scenics and is a lot easier than my old method of barbed-wire fences.

Putting everything back in place gets me this.

I also made a little progress over on the RH side with driveways and ground cover.View attachment 263976
Did some other stuff that I don't remember.

Terry - My eye doc was just the opposite, he told me that I didn't need to do the cataract surgery in 2017. By 2023, he decided that it was finally time and what a difference it made. The cloudiness in the corners of my eyes disappeared and everything became much brighter and more vivid than before. As Todd posted, it's an easy surgery, but it may require some follow-ups.
I am guessing that there were no royalties for being the subject of the safety meeting.
Tom O - What kind of new mower are you getting? I need to get one right now, as my 2-year old electric one won't start up any more. Both batteries are fully charged. No one around here works on them. Supposedly costs less to just buy a new one. I am thinking of going back to a gas-powered one with electric start.
Hughie - "Ponding on roadways" seems to be the new buzzword with TXDOT. I saw my first sign for that earlier this week. The ponding was there all right, situated between two sewers on a brand new just completed highway segment near me. Duh! Seems like the sewers could have had better placement.
Alan -

I have to agree with that, although some of the ones from 67-68 were especially good at the time. "Dear Mr. Fantasy" anyone???

Everybody have a great Thursday. Be safe.
Looks like time for trees and shrubs.........

While it worked on making me not care about the pain, it used to plug me up, making another type of pain.
All opioids will do that. I took it last night, but no more. Especially since I was advised not to "push"
...It's always interesting being the subject of a company safety meeting...
If done correctly, it can be a good thing, if not...

I ended up buying a Sony A6400 with a 16-50 lense, just to play with before buying an adapter.

After playing with it for a couple of days, I got a Canon EF to Sony E adapter.

It works great with full functionality of all my Canon lenses.

I shoot mostly at aperture priority to get the depth of field and let the camera figure out the rest. Will have to play with full manual mode and break out my neutral density filter for ghost scenes.
I have the older alpha 6300. Great camera. I also had a canon adapter for the lenses from my Canon D20. They worked fine but were big so I ended up buying one or two Sony lenses... I still have the adapter and other lenses for those special needs.

I did find that the autofocus in video mode doesn't work. I'm guessing because the old camera didn't have video mode. The Sony lense can, so I guess I'll be using that.

I like the ground level aspect that I get from this camera.

I think my auto focus in video mode did work on my alpha 6300 and my canon lenses but it was slow. I used it once or twice to record my kids rock band concerts before I bought the Sony telephoto.

Is this the one that was canceled for the tax write off and then resurrected ?
You are correct. Shelved in November 2023 by Warner Bros for a $30 million write off.
Rights were purchased by Ketchup Entertainment in March 2025 for $50 million.
I think they should recoup their investment. After all, who does not like Roadrunner/Wile E. Coyote/ACME cartoons. One of my all time favorites.

Nothing fancy, something the grandson can easily handle. My gas one has a bent shaft and shakes like crazy and 11 years old. Put it on the curb yesterday and it was gone when I looked an hour later. Wish I could put the garage refrigerator out there! $130 for the recycler to come get it!

FedEx delivers today between 10 and 2, free delivery!
That's exactly the model that gave up for me. It's the second one that I have had. The first lasted 6 years before the tornado of May '24 took it over 50 yards away, tumbling I assume. The replacement lasted just 20 months before failing me. I'm torn between getting another or switching back to gas.

We have a a Greenworks Pro 80V mower. It works well. I also have the baby 80V snowblower, the 80V leaf blower, the 80V weedwhacker that takes the same attachment ends as the gas ones, and one or two (?? -- I think -- pretty sure I have one or two others but I can't remember at the moment) other Grenworks 80V tools. One of the batteries filed eventually but after much abuse and 5 years of use and abuse.

Yeah, when I broke my ankle back about 2010 or so, and had to have surgery to put in some metal to hold the bone in place while it healed, they gave me some hydrocodone and/or Percocet (it changed). I didn't use them that much but tended to take one in the evening to help dull the pain so I could sleep. (I ended up with a bunch left over as I did not take them all). But that happened to me. I got so plugged up that I had to stop taking them a few days to just clear myself out... It was a horrible experience.

The good thing is, when used for severe pain, you don't really feel the euphoria that you would otherwise so there is less enticement for abuse... (Physically the risk of addiction is probably still there but the mental enticement of "getting high" isn't).

I just remember not being able to go to the bathroom and take care of business and how miserable it was.

Portillo's has really gone downhill over the last few years. The one in Rockford is still ok, but we stopped in DeKalb (Sycamore) a couple of weeks back and it was terrible. Not sure what has happened to them, but remember when they were the place to go?
I mentioned here a few months ago that I have been having terrible results going via the drive through. I didn’t want to go yesterday but it was inside and Terry wanted the cake that she said was still excellent. Still while satisfactory it used to be so great by my sisters old place in Orland Park, Il. But the 2 Madison stores have barely been good.

Too bad as I love a good Chicago Dog but it wasn’t worth it.

So has Five Guys. The fries are still good but we went in there for a burger and it just wasn’t what it used to be. Lower quality meat, smaller patty, didn’t taste like much at all, but that price sure lasted. A shame.
Our 5 Guys was still very good but that was over a year ago. I started saying no to the grandkids after that last time. 4 of us spent $130 on hamburgers. I can’t image with all the price increase what the cost would be today. I don’t mind paying for good food and good service but I felt and still do we were getting ripped off. So no more when Culver’s is just as good and a much better value with the grandkids

I don’t bend to peer pressure but I was the remaining hold out on the blocks surrounding the house. I moved to electric because the grandson will be using it and how quiet it runs. Terry could always hear the gas mower because of the pitch of the sound. She didn’t even know I tested this one today after an hour.

The kid with the lawn service came to pick it up and make sure the gas one ran. It did but the bent shaft bothered him and he said no. Not even an hour on the curb before it was gone.

I charged the batteries and tested it. Took me a few minutes to get used to it and adjust the cutting height. So when the grandson comes over to cut I know how the mower reacts so I can train him. I will adjust the handle to fit him.

Culvers has been our go-to on away game nights. Within a 40 mile radius of us there are 5 of them so we pass close enough to one
of them to make the side trip.

Plus nothing makes the ride home more enjoyable than a concrete mixer for the road!
Every couple months or so Terry will want ice cream or custard. If it’s custard we’ll drive over to Culvers and I will come home with a Heath concrete mixer. The drive thru is open till midnight. It’s very good!
