"Train" season is about over for me. Great weather means it's "outdoor" season. All the seed planted 3 weeks ago has sprouted and grown enough that I started thinning some of it out. I've never had a season start this early. My asparagus is producing more than enough for us to harvest twice a week now.

I forgot to mention some of the firearm stuff. We shipped an as-new 1960 Marlin 39A a little over a week ago to the winning bidder. Usually Pieces Scattered must have thrown it down on the butt stock end, from 20' up, because they split the stock at the tang. The butt stock was wrapped in cardboard, bubble wrap, and then placed in a soft case before being boxed & padded. The buyer (us too) was really upset with UPS, but we are taking it back for a full refund. I know how to repair the stock having done it many times before. Spread the crack, Gorilla glue, wrap with some tire inner tube, then tighten it up with a hose clamp. $800 rifle with go on the store rack for $500 after the fix.

On a brighter note, the 3 current listings are all doing outstanding and there's still 10 days to go.

Good Morning All. Happy Earth Day. Cloudy and 59°, going up to the mid-70's today; clouds will remain until Sunday the NWS shows. However the chance of rain today has been removed from the forecast. It does look like it may have rained lightly overnight, but since I didn't empty the gauge yesterday, I can't really tell. There's 0.7" in there since Monday evening. I seem to remember there being 0.65" when I looked yesterday morning.

Nothing special about yesterday. Wife went to her hairdresser and we went to Longhorn Steakhouse for supper. Noted that gas in Denton TX was generally around $3.39/gal, after bumping $4 last week. I thought that I saw from a distance that Buc-ee's showed $2.99/gal on their sign, but I couldn't verify that with Gas Buddy, since they don't advertise their fuel prices. Still at least $1 higher than February generally.

Nothing dramatic out in the train shed yesterday. I did finish up the vacuuming on the cleanup project and added more ground cover to the neighborhood project. Not enough to warrant progress pictures yet. Ran a few trains over the newly vacuumed section to test it.

Patrick - You may need one of these.

Terry -
The strength of the meds was too high for the insurance company.
Part of what's wrong with our system today. Doctor's should make those decisions.
Snowman -
Cannot buy any pure gas within a thirty mile radius at any pump
Around here it's available at most farm & ranch supply stores that sell gasoline.
Louis - Best wishes on your surgery. I hope that it isn't too serious.

Jack Nicholson is 89 today.

Everybody have a wonderful Wednesday.

I don’t know if anybody but me remembers nearly 3 years ago when the eye doc dropped the “cataract” grenade in my lap. I haven’t noticed any significant degradation of my vision since then. I had an eye exam last Sunday, and that eye doc told me the previous eye doc’s diagnosis was a bit premature. At this point, that issue is so far down the road it is barely visible. The analogy she gave me was that of a 30 year old person finding a half dozen grey hairs on their head out of a full head of hair. Neither of us could figure out why the previous doc made his diagnosis sound so bad.
Terry: Age brings Cataracts - sooner or later. I was told a couple of years ago the sooner or later part. Last weeks bright light eye exam showed them a tad more, but no worry for 5 to 10 years. Ima 70 something. Don't worry about it until necessary. On top of that, easy-peasy surgery when it happens.

Thank you Gentlemen for all the well wishes. No worries, it is an outpatient procedure. For lack of knowing the proper term I'm calling it a roto-ruter that, God wiling will allow me to pee normally and without pain again.

As Karl's Dad said, "growing old aint for sissies" Amen to that brother!

Good morning Crew. We probably will get to 80f degrees today.

New mower arrives tomorrow. Finally fed up with the old one that I’ve threaten for years to get rid of. Neighbor kid took it as he started a lawn service (he’s 11) and wanted a back up machine. He has 30 yards signed up. Not mine as the grandson is supposed to be my lawn service!

I applied a surface primer (Vallejo ghost gray) to the Blow tank in the paper mill build for a friend yesterday. Also used Israeli Sand color surface primer on the digester building and the big Recovery boiler and Bleach plant false front walls. I have to (my rule)wait 72 hours before I work on them some more. They dry quickly to the touch but they need to cure and harden. Usually good after 48 hours but I want to be sure masking tape doesn’t pull any paint off. So the 72 hours before working on rule is in effect!

Terry has dental work today. 2 hours in the chair fitting new crowns. She’ll have the car so I’ll have to spend time in the train room.

Enjoy the day
damn you reminding me of something...

No work for me today because of surgery, and I can’t wait to have it over with. Last night I had Jello for dinner as instructed, and wow, that stuff had me running to the bathroom to pee even more than usual! I did not see that coming!
I hope they can fix the plumbing good as new for you.

Good morning. Late getting in here this morning.

I got wrapped up in a discussion at the Walther forum on a 1940 RZM marked PPK. This was in a second short serial block of numbers that was produced after the SA/SS contract expired at the end of 1936. This pistol was a mystery to me until a very well know author in Walther collection circles replied that in his third edition publication, there was indeed a short block of RZM marked PPKs issued in 1940. This had the new 1940 Eagle/N proofmark on the slide and chamber hood which positively identified it as a post-January 1940 model, but the serial numbers did not correspond to the original block of numbers for this variation.

My publication was his first edition from 2000 and was very dated. I'm glad he chimed in on the conversation to clear this up and satisfy my curiosity about this PPK. Now I have to get his third edition dated 2024 at collector prices instead of bookstore prices.

On the home front, it is 65°F already at 0935 and expected to be 81°F, sunny, and breezy today. I should be opening the windows by 1200 I hope.

Found a text on my phone from my barber. Not going to be in until Thursday now, and I'm not holding my breath for that day either. I'm ready to take a pair of scissors and a razor and trim this head of hair up myself.

Have a great Wednesday or Mittwoch depending upon what hemisphere you're in.

Servus!

well, howdy there internet peeps and those with plumbing issues, both internal or external.

It's Troy again.

Did burgers on the grill last evening. O-rings in the air fryer and some green beans.

Speaking of beans, wife and I are both trying to find interesting recipes for such. She's working through a lot of her Asian contacts (one Japanese-Hawaiian girl, and whatever she sees on the latest K-drama). I'm watching the Tubez of U for good recipes that aren't just "chuck a ham bone in with kidney beans and salt to taste"

If you've got a good recipe for for a beans, or rice and beans dish, let her rip!

Still working on the spring cleaning purge of Troy's Packrat horde of model bits, old foam risers that have been used at least once-too-many times, empty boxes, and "I could make something outta that" wood off cuts, etc.

Imma gonna sneak in an extra trip to the community dumpster this week to get stuff outta here.

I did use one of the old door slabs we replaced throughout the condo to make a "from the rafters" shelf out in the garage. I'm impressed what getting more storage on the vertical axis does to the existing floor space.

It's laundry day, and the last load is in the dryer.

Steaks on the kamado for dinner with sweet taters. Weather is nice enough that I'll probably adjourn to the patio and do some reading out there. Still have a week or so of frequent thunder boomers rolling through. So I'll wait to set up the canopy over the patio sitting area.

Good morning, all! A warm and muggy morning here in H-Town. No big plans for today as forecaster have "heavy rains with ponding on roadways" in the afternoon forecast. I spent a couple of hours a day for two days building a password creator in Excel. It will make passwords using Uppercase, Lowercase, Numbers and Characters or any combination of them, choose between 8 and 16 characters for the password. It then saves it along with user name and URL.. I may need to refine or limit the Characters it uses since some website limit them.
I did do a little rail fanning, mostly it was dragging the track cleaning car around.

Louis - Good luck with your surgery.

A throw down pic; (wonder if Guy of the North made any progress on his layout this past winter)

Willie: That trap is a little big for what I think is digging under the concrete. While there was a large hole on one side with cat tracks in it, once that was filled, it is a much smaller hole out of the other. The large hole has remained sealed.

That said, Friday I start the concrete.
