As you can see there are a lot of converted houses/businesses herein--
Last August, while in Ohio for a car show, I took a side trip to see the small town where my dad grew up. I ended up taking pictures of all the buildings in town and most of the houses. Heres a link to the photos.

If you ever get the chance, check out a thread on the Jalopy Journal Forum titled, Vintage shots from days gone by. There are over 1400 pages of vintage photos that people have posted. Many are down town scenes from big cities and small towns. The Jalopy Journal is really a Hot Rodder's forum for old cars, but this thread has vintage photos of daily life from farms, towns, industry, railroads, Hollywood, and even vintage photos of families around their Christmas tree in their own living rooms.
But be warned. Once you start looking at the photos, it can be hard to stop, and 1400 pages will take a while.
