howdi peeps

Well i have a update! :) Yes iam still here and building, but summer is in full swing.
anyway. last week i had the feeling i need to start building something. so i decided to add a little bit of scenery on the new section.

at first i added a small old street into the idustrie, it will cross the railroad at more or lesss the only spot where there are no turnouts (didnt think of that when i did lay down the track...)

IMG_2436.JPG

I did this with a Mix of AK Asphalt paste and Mifoshape.
The crossing itself i will do with some wooden sheets from MT. Albert Scale Lumber.

After the street was dry, i decided yesterday, to start with the left side.
So i added Mifoshape all over it. Also added a small Hillside with some rockfaces. I just love rockfaces, and i need to get better at carving and coloring them, so i will give it ago onemore time there :)

And i will give this part (this section) as much time as i can, and i will add many details. why? Well its more or less the first you see when you enter the room. So it has to be stunning, breath taking and more superlatives haha. (Will try)

After that i had the idea of creating a small farmroad/Service Road) to the side of the track.

IMG_2473.JPG

So i added some RTS Structure paste and carved some "tire marks" into the wet muddy ground with a small car. now i let everything dry completly, then i think i will add the ballast. or first i will paint the ties of the track and alsso weather the track (at least the first 30-40cms). then add some more ground cover and stuff :)

Will let you know when the next update is ready.

Cheers
Marco

Marco: Good idea on using the perf/proto board to really nail stuff in. Also, is there going to be some sort of lift/drop section there? If not, how are you going to get engine/cars to or from the switched trackage? Me thinks you need room for at least 1 engine and 1 car?

nevermind, went further up and the pix did show a lift/drop section....

Nice progress — backdrop with the blue over white should give great depth for scenery later! For the trackbed, I'd lean toward Option B. Raising the roadbed directly in wood gives you a more solid, stable base for track (less prone to shifting/settling compared to full styrofoam under the rails), and it's easier to get consistent grades if you're doing any elevation changes. Styrofoam around it for the surrounding terrain still gives you the easy carving/shaping for scenery. Option A works too, but B tends to hold gauge and alignment better long-term, especially under heavier layouts.

hi and thank you for the comment.
your answer comes a bit late (around 2years) so i already decided, when you look into my thread ;)

@ctclibby yes on the left is a liftout bridge. so the train will pass from the left onto this section.
the runaround track on this section has enought space at the back so i could switch with a six axle. no problem :)

cheers

Hey everyone

Another step done.
I did my first try on weathering my tracks. I did use my Airbrush for the basecoat. I used the color Boiler Brown from Ammo RailCenter (AMMO.R‑0023). Next step will be dry brushing everything. then a clear coat over the dry brushed tiles and to finish it off, a oil wash over everything.

and as you can see now, i did change up the trackplan a bit.
the track on the left is gone, and also the one track on the right.

Now on the left i have a bit more space for scenery, and a bigger warehouse or Industrie over all.

Cheers

next step in weathering the tracks.
i choose three different colors for this step.

- ochre sand
- sleeper brown
- cream

all from AMMO.Rail Center.

after some time the whole section looked like this:

i like it but iam not 100% happy. so i will add another layer of cream and ochre sand. After this i will add the black oil wash.
@TLOC i did try to clean the rails yesterday. and it worked relatively easy with IPA 99% and a bit of pressure. So i think the cleaning of the top rails should not be that hard. the turnouts could get a little tricky.. next time i will mask them...

cheers

hey there forum friends

Weekend is over, and i had some hours (again) for the layout.
it was awesome spending every night for a short (or longer) time at my layout.

At first i did add the oilwashes to the tracks.
First time working with oils and like @TLOC once said:"Work with the stuff your comfortable with". Well i have to say, i really like to work with oils.

IMG_2517.JPG

for this i used the following Oils from Abteilung 502.

After that, i did start on working on my Crossover.
As i said it should look like an old crossover to the idnustrie that is no longer really in use, but from time to time.
I used Mt. Albert Scale Lumber for the wood and some AK and Abteilung502 products.

I like it!

After some messing around with ballast. I decided to try to order Ballast from AZRocks... there E-Mail got an error, so i have to figur out how to order from them. I hate when manufacturers dont maintain there website... So if someone has a mail adress from them that works, send help!

Oh and here for @TLOC tom:

IMG_2551.JPG

this is how i cleaned my tracks.
A piece of XPS foam, add some IPA 99%, and rub over it. after 2-3 rubs bäm the rail is clean.
to clean the turnouts i used a tiny sponge, also with alcohol. Testrun not done yet. but it should work.

Cheers

Hi Marco !
I just "discovered" your thread, sorry for that.
Great work and I love the trees. I would need several hundreds, well...
all good, welcome on board.
well if you need hundreds, there are maybe other technics they would fit you better in massproduction, but still looking good.
on the other Hand, if the prize is correct we can maybe find a way ;)

Cheers

Yes I know some technics which give a "good enough" result for background firs and pines.
I didn't start yet though.
So far I used only commercial trees in order to give a "feeling" of a high sierra pass, see the upper level of my BNSF "Desert & Sierra Sub".
I love building scenery and somehow I guess I would be able to make good looking foreground trees. So is it lazyness or senility ? I don't know.
I have to think about it, and I might contact you in a near future. Thank's.

the trees i made in the picture, i made in a workshop hosted my marcel ackle. i mean i could share more or less the process how they are done. they are time consuming i have to say, but the result is epic. and in the end its not really that hard to do, it "only" costs time :)
