howdi folks

This weekend i had some time down in my layout room. i started working on the riverbank in section c.

IMG_8992.JPG

iam working with MIFOSHAPE, got that bag and finally the time has come to use it. i have to say, so far i really like it, shame that i have to order it in the netherlands, but well i think i will order some more bags.

Supervisor Aria was the whole time sitting next to mee and was watching what iam doing. i know soon i will have problems with her, when the landscape is growing. i mean she already loves to grab Bob and send him off the shelf or chew on him, wondering what she will do when there are trees everywhere :D

IMG_8996.JPG

i also started on the end of the shelf. now that i know the profile of the new building i started with the ground work for parking spaces, and lvl to the street:

IMG_8999.JPG

and than i also added the first coat of color to my storage container. the idea is to creat a heavy weathered storage container. lets see if it will turnout as in my mind. will also try some new things on this one.

yes that was more or less my weekend.
will post a short new video that should have gone live today, so hope you like it.

cheers

Howdi folks

And here I the short 5min video from yesterday:

I like the plaster cloth in hard to reach places. I used some last weekend too, hadn't used it in years but it was very easy and quick.

Normally, I use damp paper towels over my screen or lattice, then a coat of hydrocal that is like a slightly runny consistency, it smooths out nicely with a spatula.

I guess we were really lucky with our cats, they never jumped up on the layout.

THANKS for sharing your project! Dave LASM

heyho

last weekend between watching Bathurst 12h i had some time down by my layout.
First i was searching for more storage room haha, maybe i have to overthink my storage area. then i started ballasting the mainline in the industrial area.

schotter_main.jpg

iam thinking about going with a different color at the siding tracks. i have a lighter colored ballast, maybe this could work. i think i will do a mockup to see how it looks. so the main will be all this gray ballast iam using here, of course i will weather everything. and just to say it, this photo was taken when everything still was wet. so it will lighten up a bit.

Hello friends

Just another Layout Update Video for you:

Hope you like it.
And i really hope to find more time for my layout(s). but there is so much going on haha.
but hey sometimes you have time, sometimes not.

cheers
Marco

good morning

yes my layout is still alive ;) and yes i have a update for you all.
some days ago i had an idea for my section D (industry). so yesterday i had some time downstairs, and i started with that.
first i took away the loading dock. Why? well first iam not really happy with the weathering on the building. second i was thinking, its to big for this space and i want something smaller. third, it also blocks the view on the cars when they get unloaded.

so i decided to take it away, and just build a ramp from scatch and also will add a small container office or something like that.

IMG_9645.JPG

i also because the dock is gone made the left track with the "small" boxcar a bit longer, about 20cm. so now i can store two boxcars and an engine there. i maybe also add another unloading ramp a bit further down the track.

IMG_9647.JPG

and if your now more or less on ground lvl it looks like this:

IMG_9648.JPG

i think this coming along great. i will cover the foam with concrete paste and weather the whole thing with washes. i will add a ramp so carts can go up and down, but still enough room for trucks and trailers.

the supervisor was just enjoying the view into the jungle outside. that reminds me that i will have to mow this weekend :D

So here is another small update from the layout.

i started pouring some concrete.
soon i will sand it down and maybe add another thin layer. but will decide after sanding.

IMG_9705.JPG

I also started building another kit.
this kit is from Walthers and is called "Aunt Lucys House". it comes with lighting from Vissmann.
great and easy to build kit. I allready did some light weathering, but will add some more.
iam also working on a video of the whole process.

IMG_9712.JPG

so thats it for now.
i have to go check on the cats. and then back to the layout build.

cheers
Marco

Nice video! That does build into a nice house. Looks very easy and straightforward. I think even I could handle that one! ;)

long time no update, but finally this past few days i did some things on section c

IMG_0213.JPEG

first i did cut a hole.
why? well i never was really happy with how the mountain ended at the tracks. and i also did not have a 86 feet boxcar back then. so i had to cut out a section to rebuild the mountain. i want the look of a carved out curve. so with rocks and stuff it should look better in the end.

IMG_0210.jpeg

i placed the rocks and glued them in place. after that i closed the gaps with another load of mifoshape.

IMG_0211.jpeg

now i have to say it looks way better and also the long cars have way more space. also a bit more space for scenery.
then it was time to start on the riverbed.

first i painted a dark olive green.

IMG_0227.JPG

after two coats i let it dry.
then i added a lighter green on the outer sections of the riverbed.

IMG_0229.JPG

and after this layer had dried the third layer was added. this one with the sponge dip technique.

IMG_0230.JPG

now i will have to add the details and also color the banks. after that i have to seal 2 gaps and then its ready for epoxy.

thats it for this update.
its great to see finally the start of the scenery in this section. iam rsally looking forward to build this and add some green stuff 😊

cheers
marco

well well well

where should i start.
lets start at the beginning, would maybe make sense :) so. i was watching a youtube video the other day from a modelrailroader that finished hes swing down bridge to clear a gap in front of a door. and he had a great solution how it was done and this got me thinking.

as you all know, my shelf layout ends at section D (the Industry) because after that there is the door to enter the room.
but after that comes (a big mess) with lots of stuff. and i since the start was dreaming of one day, i will add something to reach this side. when i was watching this video i saw a clear idea. and last weekend i was at my moms house to pick up some storage racks. and boooom there was the idea.

i will tear down my storage space to the right of the door. will replace it under section C, and create room for Section E and F!

IMG_0434.jpg

from section D i always had the mainline end right at the end of the module. so there are two ideas. the doted line would mean i also expand the track next to the mainline. with a slight curve and a bridge in section E. so i can get some tracks, to the back of the module.
the mainline will also run over a bridge in the front. the whole section E will be the lift up bridge module. that means, if i have to walk trough i will lift the bridge down, it will swing down so it will be hanging on the side of Section F.

Section F will be a yard. Maybe i will also build scenery there, but the main purpose will be, yard to maybe store locomotives and some cars.

if i build this, this would give me more or less 3m of additional tracks. what would be awesome!

yupp thats it.
will let you know after the weekend what i have done so far :)

Cheers
marco

howdi folks

heres another update from the layout room.
on saturday i was at IKEA to get some stuff for the kitchen, and i did buy some storage shelfs for my layout room.
after assembling them i did reorganize my stuff.

IMG_0452.JPG

this is how it looks now.
then i did take down the old storage space to start on building section F.

IMG_0457.JPG

this is how it looks right now.
it will give me around 2m of space to build a staging yard with a dieselshop and everything.
in the middle i will build a single track bridge that stands on a swingbridge.

wish you a great start of the week all.
cheers
marco

well i have another update for you.
all my disc golf frisbees are stored in there new place. and i started on building section F.

the whole section will be 180x60cm so this gives me another nice length of track that i was not planing before haha.

IMG_0468.JPG

the bridge section, will be around 70cm long.
this i will build like a diorama, so it will not be full 60cm deep, but it will be a nice bridge scene with a river. and maybe some underpass with lots of graffitis on the left side to the industrie.

IMG_0469.JPG

here you can see a part of section F. this will be a staging yard, maybe also with a turnout that is yet not in use, but maybe in the future a single go around track, who knows. here i will have at least 4-6 tracks, should be possible. the goal is t add a diesel workshop and a tanking facility. the whole section will be dirty, because of all the dirty work that will be done there. in my head i already have ideas on this section.

but one step at the time ;)

cheers
Marco

PS: i think i have to do a Layout Update video soon.

One step at a time!

Great advice for anything we do in modeling. I like the addition to the layout, congratulations on gaining space. Going to be interesting to see you add the bridge to join the sections

Have fun
