Welcome aboard. Glad to have another member from down under. I'm sure that if you have any questions, someone here on the forum will be able to help you.

Hi Stibby and Welcome to the forums here,

This is a great place with lots of knowledge and information freely passed around so just ask and you'll most likely find the answers or at least food for thought to help with your questions.

There is another modeler from Australia on here that I'm familiar with, Tootnkumin's Avatar 'Montana Rail Link' tootnkumin, you can usually find in the, 'ANPL Coffee Shop' then click on, 'Running Bears Coffee Shop', a dedication to a fallen member named Jeffrey. The coffee shop is down near the bottom of the main listings.

You guys are probably neighbors as I know Australia is small area!! LoL I couldn't resist. You may be closer than first thought though actually. He's active in a Model Railroad Club there. Here's his location, 'Caboolture in SE Queensland'. If you get started today maybe next week you might be there?

Enjoy yourself on here and let us know what your thinking about or have planned, talk with you soon Stibby.

Hi there stibby, good to welcome another member from Oz onto the forums, certainly the best I've come across. As David says, it's a small area here (everything's "just down the road a bit"). Have you any particular prototype (real) railroad/railway you're keen on and want to model, haven't actually got anyone doing Aussie stuff and there's a good variety available now, even Queensland rail. Let us know where you are, have a good browse through the different forums there are here, and yes, hope to see you in "Running Bear's Coffee Shop" as well where we chat about all sorts of things.

Wow thanks for the welcome. I'm doing a 8x4 ho set up with 3 to 4 tracks, not sure on what scenery yet. I'm in central west nsw a town called orange. So I'm about 12 hrs from Qld, 4 hrs from Sydney. If you know or watch the V8 Super cars I'm right near Bathurst which has Mount Panorama race circuit

Have you got any locos or wagons/cars (rolling stock) yet. For an 8 X 4, the maximum radius track you'll be able to use is 22" (that measurement is to the centre of the track) which will bring the outside of the track very close to the edge. You can come inside that with 18" radius to give a double track if you wish. Depending on what sort of engines you want to run (Diesel or Steam), 4 axle road or yard switcher diesels or small 2-8-0, 4-6-2 or 0-6-0, 0-8-0 steam would be the most suitable to look good and restricting car lengths to 50" for the same reason.

Any preference for an "era" i.e. time in history, that you prefer?

Only trains I have is just crap stuff off eBay so far, not sure yet what I want to run. The outter track I can have as wide as 44.5 inch 1130 mm as the board is 1225mm wide

Stibby,

Welcome from the Deep South, (Alabama). There are many on here with worlds of experience, and probably we'll have an answer for any question you may have. Don't be afraid to ask questions, as the only dumb question is the one never asked!

You need to upload the picture to a Free photo hosting site, like Photobucket, Flickr, etc. I use Photobucket, so here's what I do. After the photo has been uploaded to the website, you can put a title on it, along with a description etc. To get the photo onto the forums, this is what I do. First I choose the photo by clicking on it. When the photo comes up, to the right of the photo there will be 4 boxes labelled share links. Click on the bottom one, labelled IMG, and it should blink "copied", then you return to the forums, clicking on the attachment link, which will look like a ball, globe with a chainlink in it. (Just to the right of this, there is an Icon that looks like a framed picture. The link is add image. I've never had any luck with this, so you can try it, but like I said, I've had poor luck with it.) This will bring up a screen where the cursor is blinking in a box labelled URL. Right click here and choose paste. On the left side of the screen there will be 2 other boxes. One is labelled link type, and here URL is default so don't change it. Below is a box labelled protocol, and here it will have http://. Click on the down arrow next to http://, and in the choices that come up, choose other. Then click OK, and the picture will be added to your post, like this;

The picture should appear. Now if I have made a mistake in explaining the process, I'm sure that someone will correct me. This is the method that I have used for ages. I'm sure that there are others that have slightly different methods for adding photos, but the main thing is to set up an account with a Free photo hosting site, and go from there.
Thanks for reading. I hope that I haven't confused you.

BTW, the picture was one that I took at the Streamliner Reunion, held at Spencer, NC. last summer.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I am a fairly new member and am still wading through the information here there is a lot of it.

I think what toot was referring to was the radius witch is in model railroading how a curve is referred to. You are thinking in diameter and both are on the same page
22r=44d. For long passenger cars or auto racks and such you need a bigger radius to run without problems

Once you've copied the IMG on Photobucket, come back to the Quick Reply field on the forum (I usually choose the "Go Advanced" button, this will open another field from which after Pasting, you can preview the post with the picture visible to you, before finally posting to the forum) (All you will see otherwise is a long URL from P/bucket in either Quick Reply field or Advanced. The preview is only available in Go Advanced)

Now that you've opened the advanced option, you can do a bit of writing first if you wish, but always move the cursor 1 or 2 lines down the field before pasting. This, as I said will enter the picture's URL into the field. Drop down another line, if you wish to write more, when finished, preview the post and then click Post.

This method will allow you to post "Thumbnail" pictures, which when clicked on, open up to original image size to the viewer, might work better for you if your pics are all on your phone. In the bar above the Quick Reply field, along at the right hand end, there is one of the symbols, that when hovered over, says "Insert Image". Click on that and you'll open a window to select a pic from, should be able to send from your phone then.

That, toot, is the method that I'm talking about, that I could never get to work for me. Maybe I'm not holding my mouth right.

Something that should be remembered with p/bucket or other hosting sites. You mustn't edit, move or delete the images from their positions on the site i.e. put them into another folder, 'cause what we see on the forum has not actually been transferred here, but is still only the link back to the hosting site.
