Was up late last nite and pretty much got the trestle complete. I'm still undecided on whether I will add sway braces. Also attempted to even pickup a nbw and needless to say my mobility skills and sight are nothing what they use to be. May attempt to cut the trestle into the existing roadbed today to at least have that part done and have the trestle removeable for scene work.

Kynnb- Would you please get some guard railings up on that structure! I'm feeling queasy just thinking about crawling around up there! Seriously, a beautiful structure. Can't wait to see it installed on the layout!
Happy Holidays!

Lynn,

I do have the kit and I am tempted to give it a try. The only problem I have is that I have no where on my layout that it could be used, regardless of size. It would be a waste to just build it for the sake of it. I am tempted to try a scratch built one though. After doing the pedestrian bridge/gantry I kind of enjoy the open frame type structures like bridges.

Now, whether I tried anything like the trestle or not, I don't know if I could get it as good as you have done, especially with the curves, and I would have to follow your build photo's for guidance.

This type of bridge is much easier than it looks and its pretty much scratch built from the kit other than it gives a template for the bent which all you would have to do is photocopy your template and make a jig for the bents out of styrene or whatever is your favorite material. Once you have the jig the bents are very simple. The entire bridge is just repetitive steps so it actually gets easier. If you have a hobby shop in your area all you need is the supply's which are listed in your instructions. Making a curved bridge is just a matter of first setting up the curve with the stringers and angling the bents so they follow the radius. Exact same thing as a straight trestle but the stringers tell you a different line to follow. Easy peasy.

Wow! That is an outstanding looking trestle bridge. Very well done. Can't wait to see it installed with some trains traversing it.

Have to go all the way back to post 90 to see the beginning of the Trestle--it sure turned out great!! Can't wait to see it in place.

Cut out the roadbed for a trial fit and once the mainline was lined up and fit nicely I started on the bent pillars.
