Yes, I think that's a good approach -- I'd add some short legs down to the floor from that lower base area, too, just to keep things steady. Maybe diagonals back to the main horizontals, too.

John I think it is a good start as well although I'm thinking I should bring it down even further so theres a surface contact area for the longest bents and then the water can continue down further to its lowest point.
Thinking out loud... the centre area can be built upward and outward to connect on the left and right outside of the trestle as well either side of the river but how to finish off the ends?

Did some photoshop work. I have the lower level at the waterlevel figured out and mounted, taking a bit more figuring then I anticipated for the upper area. IMG_20141124_195653_zps1500c9e9.jpg

Johne and Tony thanks. Really I'm not looking forward to building the trestle bridge. The bridge has some nice looking wood with some crappy looking directions, I did manage to make up a bent jig out of styrene and made one rough bent.

The bases are pretty much done, I still have some calculations to make for the bent risers, I figure if I install risers spaced at about 14 feet apart made from 1x4 it should be ok right ? lol If nothing else I now have a nice little work bench area.
There's still quite a bit of work to be done to tie in from the bases upto the rivers edge and surrounding area.

good job on the jig and that first bent looks good.Working with wood is my passion even if it is to small for me to see.My eyes arent what they used to be.I used to be able to see something out of plumb or level a mile away now I can only see it 1/2 mile away!

Thanks guys. John my eyes and memory have been going south for a bit. The bent in the jig was just a trial run and I'll use its final length for doing the calculations for the two longest bents that will be on each side of the river then the rest will get shorter going up the slopes.

Sounds like a plan!

Your first Bent looks good to me, which means your jig is also good. As previously mentioned, I don't envy you your task however, it seems as though you have it WELL under control!

I like the way you stained your timber too, not even and very realistic looking. If the bridge goes as well as the first bent and staining, you'll have a definite winner.

Thanks Tony, I actually made up 3 bents and realized I didn't like what I did and will be pulling the sashes off and making them longer so they extend past the outside legs.

Thanks Scott. Tony this is more of the way the bents are suppose to look. Not done but I like the sashes better.
