ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I posted the Facebook thread to the pictures somewhere in January Running bear topic, it's burried in there among about 100 pages of jabber. Maybe you can locate it, I'll try later and repost it in my topic here, so it will be easier to find.
I'm not much into anything today, so I've been kind of bored. I may just try hunting for it.

Replaced the front guiding truck wheels, and connected the tender one more time to run some tests.

Thinner wheels look a whole lot better, but will need to fine tune the guiding truck, so the wheels will spin more freely. Looks like i also need to lower that tender body a little. Those "coast to coast" 210-F-82A Pennsy tenders were some of lowest sitting tenders I've ever seen.

This weekend work was started on the valve gear for the I1. Here the model did not come with all parts. Major piece missing was the right side crosshead. I purchased another one as a surplus in the Bowser store before they closed, but that one was the left side, so now i've had two left crossheads. Up came brass, cutting wheel and resistance soldering station:

The black plastic one was original part the locomotive came with, silver one was the one i purchased and the brass one is what i just finished making today. Started to fit everything in, but the reverse link rack will need to be slightly modified, since it was set up for higher mounting of the crosshead guide. Here's the real thing:

tbc... time to get ready for bed.

Got a lot done on the Pennsy decapod today. Starting with the side rods and into the valve guides:

And testing out on the railroad:

Everything is working fine, but I'll have to put a few drops of blue thread lock on smaller screws. Still to do catwalks by the smokebox sides and maybe a few details on the cylinder block. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for this 2-10-0.

Fantastic work, you are a master craftsmen Mack. Thank you for sharing your work.

Have you or do you plan to do any PRR K4s or H‑Class 2‑8‑0?
I'm not planning either of these, as they are easily available in model form. I don't find Pennsy K4 as attractive, as the Reading "G" class 4-6-2. So if the Lord will give me more days, either Reading G-1/G-2 is coming, or a Lehigh Valley R-1 2-10-2 which was never done even in brass. The Lehigh Valley R-1 was so ugly, it's beautiful 😃

This is the way i mounted both walkways:

Drilled and tapped two holes in the boiler and i'm quite aware that the mounting brackets are off scale, but they are more realistic than the molded in rest of the catwalks. Two 00-90 flathead screws are holding the brackets on each side.

Real thing:

And almost finished walkways. Walkways are soldered to the brackets;

Looking great! Excellent job on the brass details and running gear parts. If you don't mind me asking, are you going to upgrade that Worthington feedwater heater? The reason I ask, is it appears to have zinc rot, wouldn't want to see it break off and jam something while running. Just curious as to what your plans are.

I did fill some of those cracks with CA glue, might do some more filling and after spraying with primer, i'll decide if that needs replacement. I do have a spare Worthington heater cast out of brass, but want to keep it for another project if possible.
