I was 12 years old, and I watched them bring the U-505 across South Shore Drive from Lake Michigan. Once in place, there were speeches by RAdm Dan Gallery, who had led the Navy task force that captured the boat, and Adm. William "Bull" Halsey! I was on the North side of the audience. so I wouldn't be in this picture. Later, the Pioneer Zephyr was moved in alongside the boat. Both stayed there, exposed to the weather, for years, until a below-ground addition was added to the Museum, and both moved inside.Aug 3, 1954

As Mike said, it was written about Marilyn Monroe. Her real name was Norma Jean.I just listened to that song yesterday and thought it was written for Diana, but it was written way before that. I keep forgetting who Norma Jean is/was.
