Work begins on Mount Rushmore:
On this day in 1927, sculptor Gutzon Borglum began work on
Mount Rushmore. To give the monument national appeal, Borglum sculpted presidents, choosing the ones he felt represented important moments in the country’s history: its founding (George Washington), territorial expansion (Thomas Jefferson), economic development (Theodore Roosevelt), and preservation during the Civil War (Abraham Lincoln). The work took just over 14 years to complete and was declared finished on October 31, 1941.

Orville and Wilbur Wright make a circling flight on "Flyer III" of 24.2 miles (38.9 km) in 39 minutes and 23 seconds/
I wonder if that's how the PIC sits on the left came about in a fixed wing aircraft?
One sitting on the centerline doesn't affect the roll moment, while the pilot on the left, counters the weight of the off-set motor to eliminate roll moment.

That move put Minuteman II out of business permanently. 450 MMII were taken off of strategic alert and their launch codes neutralized all on the same day.

Did that include all the ForceMod birds, and the 564th at Malmstrom AFB? A bit after my time, as I left in January 1969. Mostly did MM I targeting and field supervision, the latter included the Odd Squad. Peace Was Our Profession!
I think the 564th had already upgraded to LGM-30G by then and was exempt from the new START treaty. Only MMII was deactivated. ForceMod, IIRC was also MMII and they would have went away too.

That sounded promising. Wonder why we didn't (or at least I didn't) see it in wide spread application.
