Jeffrey, I'll take at least one gallon of Geritol. I feel as lazy as the people in Tuscaloosa today. I think I'm still recoving from my vacation. I wonder whatever happened to Gramps Oil and how many tankcars they really had? I suspect there are probably a lot more produced as models than were ever owned by Gramps.
As far as I know most, if not all, of the Gramps UTLX tank cars were made for narrow gauge service. Some are still in service today, one on the Georgetown Loop in Colorado. My HO Scale models of the cars are in standard gauge, which as far as I know, none of the actual cars were. UTLX (union Tank Car Company) was started in 1866 in response to the activities of Standard Oil.

Those of us with big dogs that take craps bigger than a buick get left alone!
Definitely, and that's the truth

Only seen her bare fangs twice, it wasn't pretty but it was sure comforting. She's between 95 and 100 lbs

Cheers
Willis

Willis, Chris That type of dog are very devoted to their owners---we had one up 'till about three years ago when she passed away at 19 years old. A few months before a certain person tried to break in and got her in his face. Most of the time she'd be cuddled up beside Audrey or me on the couch:):)

Jeffrey, from what I can find, Gramps Oil was shipped exclusively on the D&RW narrow gauge from the Gramps oil field near Chama to the Gramps refinery in Alamaosa. The name came from Lafayette “Gramps” Hughes, the owner of the Gramps oil fields and refinery. It was this oil traffic that kept the Chama line running into the 60's, when the refinery burned down and the oil fields started to give out. During WWII, a number of standard gauge UTLX tanks cars were mounted on narrow gauge underframes and used for Gramps Oil. The Bachmann car is a foobie but the the tank is about right for the real thing.

Chris, the unemployed still find work to do, even if it's stealing your stuff. :( A big dog is about the best alarm system ever invented. A Remington 870 is also an effective deterrent. :) Back in the recession of the early 80's, we had burglars that would drop poisoned hamburger over the fence, let the dog eat it, and then go about their business unmolested. I hope you keep Jacob in the house, since I'm sure that trick is still being used.

Willis and Barry, big dogs like that look so scary that most bad guys will try to find an easier taget compared to getting bit up by a dog. The problem we always had were owners that kept the dogs in the yard. We'd get a report of a burglary in progress but couldn't get close to check the house because the dog was too threatening. It's hard to tell if the dog is just barking or really was going to attack you. The only time I really got bit up good by a dog wasn't one of those monsters but some kind of little rat dog. I was checking the back of a house that had a window smash on the front and the little bastard came out from the bushes and clamped on and wouldn't let go. I pepper sprayed it three times and he still kept biting me. I finally had to give it a good whack on the head with my baton before she backed off and I beat a hasty retreat. The lady that owned her said little Muffy never bit anyone before. That night cost me a new pair of uniform pants and about 12 stitches. Muffy had to spend two weeks in doggy jail to make sure she didn't have rabies. Never did catch the guy who broke into the house. Maybe Muffy ate him. :D.

Sure is quiet here. Flo's not going to make the rent with this crowd. I vacuumed all the crud off the layout tonight. That was about the extent of my energy level, since I think Tuscaloosa's laziness level is filtering down to Prattville. :)

When I get done today with mowing I'll see if'n the boys (Jacob,Jerry and Rico) want to take a picture!

That's what the K9 officer told me Big Dog+Shot Gun=No getting robbed or dead half eat'n robber! Jim, the boy's can move freely from inside the house to the run......I heard about the meat thing, I guess That's what the shot gun is fer!

Willis, Jacob, and Rico ain't a social butterflys! Jacob and Rico will and has bit people, he's been called spicey by the vet, and the vet had to have three techs help here with Rico!! I seen Jacob show his teeth more than twice a week, More now that I'm home more. The thugs that walk up and down the street think it's fun teasing him as they pass our house. I told The k9 officer that and he told me To snap a pic of them next time they pass and he'll see what he can do!

Good morning. It's 42 and clear. The high is expected to be 70 with some clouds.

I just realized it's Friday the 13th. Yesterday I had nothing better to do so I dusted off the track and ran some trains for a while. The big SDP40F's got a good long run while the Athearn GP42X and GP38-2 got some run time on the inner loop. I parked the SDP40F's on the siding and let the two old Atlas GP40's pull the heavy freight for about half an hour before bringing the big locos back off the siding with a patched UP unit, L&A 527, lashed up with them. Today I won't have much time for the layout. I have a foot doc appointment this morning and the Home Health nurse comes around noon and there will be plenty of household jobs to keep me occupied.

Good morning

The rain here is easing up, but the wind is still howling. Since the house is not close to any huge trees that could potentially crush it, my biggest concern during this type of weather is power outages. At least when it's dry it's simply a PITA, but with rain it can be a disaster if the sump pump can't run when it needs to.

You guys with big dogs - that's great having built-in home protection. But in this state of mine where perversion of the law is a given, the robber would probably sue me for whatever injury he sustained - and win! It's what happens when you live in a state that's politically dominated by criminals.

I hear that! There was an incident here that brought that point home. A burglar crossed a guys yard late one night and was attacked by the rather large dog that resided in the back yard. Even though there were 'Beware of dog' signs all over the place the burglar took the home owner to court and won. The reason? Nowhere was there any warning that the dog bites or would attack trespassers. Now there are new signs up. 'Attack trained alligator on duty. Trespassers will be eaten!'. So far no more thiefs or burglars have crossed the yard although a few of the neighborhood cats have vanished.

Same here!! Actually our neighbour--who is a police officer BTW--has a large Doberman/Rottweiller cross that has a certain reputation of baring teeth/biting. Only thing is that when I do any work in my back yard that might involve something like going into his back yard---pruning some bushes tends to do that--he ( the dog) will leave me be. He is, at base, a big baby with me though----

Good morning--

I woke up this morning with a bad case of cottonmouth----HHHH!!!:rolleyes: Yesterday I got the ol' gargle with razorblades/broken glass feeling and this morning the ol' cottonmouth----sheeesh:rolleyes::(

Gonna go and see whether i can finally get more of the mill done up---bought a bunch of bulk paks of styrene flats sheets and pipes/ladders/staircases/railings that I just might get'r'done---heeheehee---ok--well--mebee:eek::confused::rolleyes:

Have a good one--:D:D:D:D

Good morning folks

It was 48 F and the rain was starting to fall. Our high will be 53 F. It looks like we have another Nor’easter to content with. We are supposed to be getting a good amount of rain with a lot of wind today and into tomorrow.

We had a night off. No sports, scouts, school events, or anything like that. We did have to run to mall to search for a jacket for my daughter.

Tonight is another slow night since we changed guitar teachers for my son. I no longer have to rush home and grab him and head out the door. Tomorrow we are taking our Cub Scout Pack and my son to the National Constitution Center. The Cub Scouts will be working on their various rank achievements. My son will be working on his Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge.

Sunday I may get some modeling or train running in.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning folks.

I figured I had better stop in so this place doesn't close.:)

Jim, for some reason I still get a chuckle about the 'little bastard' ankle biter!:D

It's officially Christmas at Matt J. Graif Clothing. It's a little early, but I'm sick of looking at the fall decorations. Not to mention the fact that I don't want to decorate the store even remotely close to Thanksgiving. I still have to put up the big trees, but everything else is almost done. Between the store and my house it takes almost four days to decorate for Christmas. I don't want to try that the weekend after Thanksgiving! Besides, Christmas decorations, music, etc., give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I don't know if it's nostalgia or what. With all of the negative things going on in this world, why not enjoy positive things as long as you can?

I'm back in the hunt for the perfect buildings for my layout. With Christmas approaching, I can't decide if I should just buy what I want, or tell someone and have to wait until Christmas. Either way I'll still have to buy its myself and probably even wrap it too! We'll see what the CFO says.

I hope everyone has a good start to the weekend. Mine is booked and action packed.:(

Spring----the watch cat

He has actually bit and clawed a certain idiot who did get in a few years ago!!

The photo in the middle is one of Sweetpea---my sister's watchcat---she growls at strangers!

The size of our Golden Retrievers will usually give people second thoughts, but the only thing a burglar has to worry about is getting licked to death. :D

BTW: It was "Business Insider" that had the ratings for the Laziest town in America. Hmmm....makes you wonder why Mercedes-Benz built their huge auto plant here along with other major manufacturers. (I think someone must have p.o.'d the editor :D) Actually, the whole thing is ridiculous and misleading.
The three rating are: don't exercise, watch TV during week:confused:, are FAT.
Tuscaloosa's rating is:
29.9% don't excercise................................................................Guilty
45% watch TV during week (now isn't that rediculous!)....................Guilty
37.5% are FAT..........................................................................Guilty

Afternoon, everyone.

Rex, Alabama made it three times on the top 25 laziest cities! We're number one on that list. :) I suspect they had some polling outfit call 10 people in cities across the country to come up with that nonsense. Having grown up in Cleveland, I know there are way more fat, lazy people there and they didn't even make the list. I'm not classified as fat but I do watch Glenn Beck and don't exercise as much as I should so I guess I'm guilty on two out of three counts.

Ken, looks like your storm should be winding down. I hope you didn't lose power. We lost power twice and Ida wasn't even a big deal here. I'd sure have a small backup generator for that sump pump though. My neice and her husband, both doctors, had a 12,000 square foot house built. They have a huge basement that's finished and carpeted. I told them to spend the $500 when it was being built to have a transfer switch and generator installed but they didn't think that was needed. A year later, they lost power during a big storm and the entire basement was under three feet of water. It cost them their $2,000 deductible and about three months worth of work to fix everything. Believe it or not, the also put in an emergency generator for the sump pump as part of the repairs. :)

Each state has some weird laws about civil liability if a person is injured on your property. Even uninvited "guests" are covered in some states unless you meet certain requirements. Some states have special laws that apply to dogs that are either known to bite or trained to attack. It can range from a simple fence and "Beware of Dog" signs to having the animal restrained at all times with prominent warning sighns and no trespassing signs. Most of these laws were passed to protect innocent people, like children that might get into your yard. Over the years, they have been perverted to protect trespassers who are injured when they were on your property with criminal intent. The real people to blame for this is not the law but juries made up of morons that will give money to just about anyone, especially if you have deep pockets or they don't like your race or ethnicity. In really liberal wacko states like Maryland, juries have gone completely nuts. Until we get real tort reform, this kind of thing will keep happening.

Barry, I suspect the police officer's dog is probably trained to attack on command and will only attack on his own if you are attacking the police officer. I don't know if he's a K-9 officer, but most police trained dogs are exceptionally well-mannered until a command is given, usually in German, so some bozo can't give the same command in English and cause problems. I was working a really boring detail one night with a K-9 officer, when we were manning a roadblock due to a big wildfire. His dog was named Bear, which fit him well, since he was a German Shepard that weighed about 120 lbs.. I was eating my lunch and pulled out a pack of cookies. Bear promptly snatched them out of my hand and started devouring them. I said "Hey, Bear just stole my cookies". He looked over at me and said "Do you want to try and get them back?". I just went without cookies that night. :D

Tom, you're getting a front from the west. Luckily, Ida-ex will be out of the area by then. If those two had gotten together, it would have been really bad.

Corey, that little bastard seems funny now but it wasn't so much fun when he was hanging off my leg. I got ribbed about that one for a long time. It turns out the Muffy had been involved in two other biting incidents so the the DA went after the owner and recovered the cost of the medical bills and my uniform pants. The yard had no fence or signs and apparently Muffy liked to hide in the bushes and bite people like the mailman...and cops. :) I really hate Christmas decorating but I guess it's getting to be that time again. At least I put everything away last year in an organized fashion so I know where all the junk is. I think I'd be psychotic if I worked in retail and had to listen to Christmas music for the next month and a half.

Chris, you can certainly defend your home from an intruder. Having Jacob bite someone who's just in the yard may be another matter. That last picture looks just like Muffy, the little bastard.

Barry, the only person my big lazy Maine Coon cat has bit and clawed was me. We have four cats and they'd run and hide if anyone came in the house. They're cute but worthless for anything but laying around. :)

Another beautiful fall day down here. I spent most of this morning paying off the last of the bills from my little trip to the emergency room and subsequent doctor's appointments. The total was over $10,000, of which I had to pay about $2,000. The weird thing about my Blue Cross is that paid for the entire ER visit with no deductible but have to pay at least a $40 copay for every visit to my regular doctor, plus the cost of lab tests. Seems like this is exactly the wrong thing to do, since I'll just go to the ER for every little ache and pain and not pay anything, instead of being rational about going to my doctor because I have to pay. I'm sure the new national health plan will fix all this though.

Hey All!

It's been a while...busy, busy week :(

It is snowing. Again. I had a class in Lafayette, about a 30 min drive from home. By 3:00 it was a dark as 9:00 and snowing to beat the band. Needless to say, the drive home was interesting. It was one of those snows where the flakes are enormous. (Big flakes = little snow. Little flakes = big snow) and when you are driving with your lights on it looks like hyper-space.

Rex...glad you had a great camping trip! I used to love to go camping when I was a kid. The fresh mountain air....the cool nights snuggled in a sleeping bag, the ghost stories told around the campfire while roasting marshmallows. I haven't done that for a while....maybe next Spring!
Would love to see recent photos of your dawgs. They were the cutest puppies!

Jim...Welcome back! I have never been on a cruise. I have never been out on the ocean. I am not sure how I would feel about being in all that water and NOT being able to see land! Ooooooo! I DID just watch part of "Jaws" a couple of days ago....so I'm good. Glad you had some fun and the food was delish!

Jeffrey...I am glad that you are getting some of the rest you needed to heal! Still sounds like your are awfully busy, though. How IS the foot?

Willis...Your dog is beautiful! What is she?

Corey...I reckon it is that time of year to get out the Christmas things. Does your store play holiday music? Are you sick of it by the time Christmas rolls around? I agree with Jim, I think it would get to me, too!

Barry...Keep posting pictures of your cat. You capture some great poses! She seems like a pretty cool cat! :)

Hope everyone is doing well. Have a great (lazy in Tuscaloosa) :p weekend.
Actually, Denver was just rated the most stressed city. Think I'd rather be fat and happy than stressed!!

Sandy

Killer Dawg (Bubbles)

Sandy and Jim, we ration the Christmas music this time of year.:)Just a little every once in awhile to help the mood. After Thanksgiving it's all Christmas, all the time! I'm a BIG fan of Christmas, so I don't mind it at all.

Corey...I am a fan of Christmas music, too I LOVE Christmas movies. I watch "A Christmas Story" throughout the year. I do suppose though, my favorite Christmas movie is "It's a Wonderful Life". Gets me every time.

I also enjoy the "Christmas Carol" with Reginald Owen. My favorite version.

Oh...and "White Christmas"

Ahhhhh.......
