Evening, everyone.

Just dropping in for a quick cup before I hit the hay. Made it to Atlanta fine although it poured the whole way. It's finally clearing up now and we should have good flyiing weather tommorow. The temperature here now is only 46, not much like the Atlanta most people think of.

Chris, do you mean that wood trestle is the one that got destroyed? Man, that really does suck if that's the case. Pick up all the pieces because they can sometimes be repaired, even when it looks like a pile of kindling wood. :(

OK, guys and gals. I'lll drop in again sometime next week if I can get an internet connecion. If not, I'll see you all again late next Sunday.

Just stopping in to say hi!

Worked an almost 7 hour shift yesterday, sleep for a few hours, and just got home from an 11 hour shift today. Including getting 2 coworkers mad at me (but as my manager says, who cares, I have my job) and countless customers mad at me (but hey they have to listen to the rules). Best part of the day was kicking a few younger guys out.

Unless of course you include the battery ground on my car breaking. Luckily parents home is only a few blocks from work so I managed to jerry-rig something for now.

Time to sleep for a week.

Good Morning--

Woke up all bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning---:D:D

Going to do some weekend seminar schtuff today then get to try and find some pieces of styrene sheet that I know are in my workshop area---so's I can finish off the 'new life' mill----

Then it'll be off to do some more building up of schtuff :D:D

Have a good one---

Well, we had a good hay ride last night! kids got lot's of candy and enjoyed the ride too. we got back around 11:00pm, I spent the wee hours in the morning re-modeling box B. As soon as I get a nap and Find the camera I post some Pic's of the roughed in area. I'm not 100% yet on the scene, so I'll keep messing with it:);)!

Yes, the bridge is a total loss!:( I think the destruction of Angles leap was an accident, The bridge was destroyed but the two Tunnel portals were left alone:confused: Not sure yet what happend here............Not sure if I want to know. Either way Something good will come of it:)!

Chris you are showing a lot more restraint then I would have. I once had a model car collection sitting on top of my dresser. Some friend of my mom's came and visited and her kid pulled outt he drawers of the dresser and tried to use them a steps. That did not work and the dresser fell on top of him. He was not hurt but all of the hard work I had put into the cars was destroyed. Not much more than a pile of broken plastic pieces. I never touched another model car and was I ever pi$$ed. I used to have one heck of a temper. I had put my foot thru a bathroom door trying to get to one of my younger brothers, threw another up a half a flight of stairs among other feats of anger. I still lose my temper but now control it much better. Do not do physical acts when I get mad just walk away for a while until I cool off or when driving rant and rave at the idiots that are driving around me. Glendia realizes that I am just venting a stays quiet usually, only time she will say something is when Colton our grandson is in the car and then is is only watch your language. LOL LOL

Good morning.

It's 54 and sunny. The high will be around 73 and it will be sunny.

I intended to get on earlier but cable problems made that impossible. The local system was down for almost three hours this morning with just brief periods of operation and that wasn't doing my blood pressure any good. On the layout front I've been doing some minor paint work on the new freight cars I picked up yesterday. I'd like to give my cars the appearance that they have reflective safety stripes on them but I don't have anything that has the proper shaped hole to use as a stencil, so I'm just using a paint pen to make to make some dashes along the sides. Best I can do for now.

Hey Kids!

Just got home from Steamboat Springs. Glad I didn't go there to ski. Hardly any snow there, but some places on the plains got 17.5". Go figure.

My friend has a condo there and it was great. 3 huge bedrooms, full kitchen, dining room, living room, 2 baths and 2 balconies. Sat on one balcony and watched the sun go down yesterday evening. Just beautiful. Then stayed up until about 2 am playing games. Dry drive home today. Great weekend.
Hope yours was too.

Jim...have a great time!

Chris...Sorry to hear about your layout. What a bother!

Dan...get some rest!

Take care,

Sandy

Evening yall,

Been an uneventful weekend around here. While I enjoy getting an extra hour's sleep, I hate seeing daylight disappear so early. Also went to the late (12noon) Mass today, so the day seemed halfway over by the time we got home. Talked via Skype and webcam with my 20yr-old daughter over in Austria, her college has a campus over there and that's where she's taking her Fall semester courses. She's been traveling to a dozen different countries - more than I ever visited during my 4-year Navy tour, LOL

Jim - happy sails! Share some pix of the trip with us if you get 'em...

Sandy - great pix as always, but that 4th one is a prizewinner - that mountain has a perfect shape, I can imagine it being on a calendar.

On my grand layout redesign, I'm leaning toward putting in a helix and having the staging yard on a lower level. I didn't want to do this at first because I use 'live' coal loads [which can get mighty heavy], but there seems to be no practical way of locating the staging yard in a place that is both easily accessible and has tracks long enough for parking the locomotives with their trains. Karl suggested dropping the entire layout 10" to fit a staging yard on a level 15" higher so the loaded coal hoppers could roll downhill, but the thought of all the work required to resize all the support legs seemed too daunting. So I'll look into the belowdecks option.

So here I sit in the middle of the night with a massive headache, unable to sleep. Over the counter meds are of little help, but I leave the wifes stash of good stuff alone......she needs it more then I do.

Speaking of that.........

My wife and son are both having surgery later this week again. Some of you may remember the last round about 2 years ago (has it really been that long?). These 2 surgeries shouldn't be as tough though.

My wife is getting the screws (all 5 of them) taken out of both legs. She'll be tender for a while, and not near as entertaining at airport and government building security checkpoints, but it should help her in the long run. The screws have been really bothering her whenever the weather changes, which in Indiana, is like every two minutes. Anyways, thats supposed to happen Tuesday.

My son is having the surgery my wife should've had when she was his age. His kneecaps are off to the side a little like hers were. I guess if they catch it before the growth plates are done they can make a small incision on the side of the knee and relieve some tension somehow and the kneecap will usually move over on it's own. That means that he may not have to go through that really painful surgery my wife did. This surgery is an outpatient surgery and he's supposed to be able to walk the same day. That surgery is scheduled for Thursday.

As with any surgery that they have, because of their medical condition, there is a greatly heightened risk whenever they're put under. Many times patients with their condition just don't wake up after surgery, so it's always a concern. The good part is, they know where they'll go if they don't wake up. They know that they're going to heaven to be with God. And with that, I, make that "we", trust that whatever the outcome, it'll be to God's glory. He's in control!

Now, I think it's important to note that prayer does change things. As such, if you're someone who knows God, I'd ask for your prayers this week for my wife and son. This will undoubtably be a tough week for them.

Thanks!

Philip

P.S. - Sorry, I didn't mean to get all "heavy" there! Guess it's the late hour and all this weighing on my mind.

Ken, could you do a loads in-empties out arrangement with complimenting industries? While I'm not oppossed to a helix, they are a pain sometimes, so other options might be better.

good morning. I seem to be getting up earlier and earlier.
PC, I'm sending good thoughts for your wife and son.

There's a full moon shining over the fields this morning, gives the corn an erie haunted look. Can't wait til the stuff is harvested. Its like living in a Steven King novel.

I need a second cup of coffee. I have a kitten climbing up and down all over me. :D

Thanks latant.......and yes, that is a very bright full moon. Steven King.......yeah, I guess it does look like something he'd write about.

Phillip - I'll be sure to include your wife, your son and you in my morning devotionals, hang in there! I do agree with you about helices being a pain, my original plan was to have the staging yard a little further back and have a 10"-high platform along the floor for operators to stand on, so they could be higher-up and have an easier reach that way. But there seems to be a shared belief that if anybody has to lean even slightly forward, they'll go crashing down onto the layout. I tell ya, it's not easy thinking out-of-the-box...:D

Good morning.

It's 47 and clear with a nice looking full moon. The high will get up to about 72 and it will remain clear.

Got up this morning and turned the heater on for about 10 minutes to take the chill off. I don't really have much planned for today with the exception of using some of my alcohol/black acrylic weathering agent to weather some freight cars. I have to mix up a new batch of the stuff first. It took me about half an hour to find the squeeze bottle of FolkArt pure black paint last night. I was thinking I might have to go to Wal-Mart to get a new one. I looked for it in all the usual places then remembered I'd put it in an Atlas box on top of the refrigerator. Sure enough, there it was. I shook it to make sure it's still liquid. It's still good. I've had instances where the paint had dried in the bottle. If I had to get another bottle it wouldn't be too bad. It's less than $2 for a 2 ounce bottle. I must remember though to mix it with the 70% alcohol. The 91% stuff does strange and not so wonderful things to the cars paint job, like remove it.

Good morning folks.

A mysterious and wonderful thing happened in the scale version of Mankato yesterday. A great brush wielded by what was reported as an extremely good looking man, covered the land in paint!;) What was once blue is now tan!

Seriously now, I decided to paint the blue foam underneath my town yesterday. You won't even see the tan after I'm done with it, but it's a start. I can't believe how I've become use to the blue! I should have painted this a long time ago.

I also spent a while gluing windows and waiting for paint to dry. How exciting! The building boom continues while it is warm enough to paint in the garage.

Philip, I hope your family comes through everything okay.

I have a long, boring day at work today. I think I'll bring an old issue of MR.
Have a great day!

Good morning folks

It was 50 F this morning. We are supposed to go up to 56 F.

I have had a rough few days. On Wednesday night I began experiencing difficulty with breathing whenever I tried to lie down to go to bed. At times my breathing was labored or I felt like I was drowning. I was finally able to get to sleep by propping myself up against the headboard. We thought at one point that we were heading for the ER.

The fun continued on Thursday as I called the doctor and he advised bed rest and if the breathing issues continued he wanted a chest X-ray. I did not get much rest as our refrigerator began leaking water and was not running. I called the repairman and luckily the part that was on order had come in. He came and installed the new circuit board but the refrigerator would not kick on. The compressor was now dead. Another part had to be ordered. We then had to rent a refrigerator until the part come in. I now have two refrigerators in our kitchen. The leak was caused by a crack in the ice maker water line so that is another thing that has to be fixed. Thank heaven we got an extended warranty for the refrigerator.

Friday was the day I actually got some rest. On Saturday I was able to sleep late and then I had to return our unsold Cub Scout popcorn. Sunday was grocery shopping and I felt well enough to help the kids rake leaves in the back yard.

I am feeling better. I still am getting some coughing spells and occasionally wheezing. I still have to be careful and pace myself. If I do too much I feel tired and weak.

I did on Sunday run some trains. I cleared off the layout and ran a few locomotives. I was pleasantly surprised that the first loco ran around the layout with little problems. It slowed in a few spots but by the third lap it was zipping along.

Phillip, hope the surgeries go well and everybody recovers quickly.

I hope everybody has a good day.
