Jeff, I hope yur nice to the nurses! My wife was a CNA working Home health care.........I thank God she is out of it! She was put in Harms way all the time, sometimes I had to driver her to her clients house and wait in the car for her! Those Home Health Care Nurses have a tough Job and I wouldn't want it fer all the Tea in China! Then My wife worked for Hospice(sp?) for a Year, Glade she away from that too! That took a toll on her too. Now she Deals with Giving out the Government Cheese although Demanding as it is she finally has a Job worth keeping! Although the $$ should be higher.....What else is new!

Well, Got the Equipment loaded for tomarrows run! I'm Kinda Thankfull winter Mowing patter is here. I can soon Get those "Yard Honey Do's" started. I got a good pile of them should be enough to keep me bussy till Christmas! Now I got to start on the house....Crap i thought I was done...................Grumble, Grumble, Gripe,.......

And a good morning from AllWetVille--

It is currently pouring and just being generally miserable out there---

I had some fun yesterday---picked up 4 ARNOLD S-2's from a LHS that was clearing out a whole bunch o' stuff to do an expansion of said same to outfit the scratchbashers the guy fell over---it is sort of an 'underground' market as he put it---and he wants to take advantage of same---Bob--this guy is funny--he told me he does not follow the "Trendoids" who have reduced their stock to solely RTR:eek::rolleyes::rolleyes:

My goal today is to get rid of a nagging stomach issue----I love things that start as headaches and then move elsewhere----:(

Have a good one---;)

Home health got their signals crossed on who was supposed to come change my dressings today. When the usual nurse didn't show up I called and found out what was going on. They sent a nurse out as soon as they could. By the time she got here it was three and a half hours past the time it should have been. She got the work done by 3:30 then I left to go pay bills and take the old DVR to the UPS counter at Phoenix drug in Leesville, already boxed up and with the prepaid label in place. Got it sent off and got all my bills paid and still had time to stop at the drug store and pick up some of my meds. Tomorrow I'll probably be heading to Alexandria to hit Hobby Lobby and the LHS.

Hey All!

It was a lovely day here in Colorado. The sun came out and started melting the 13" of snow we got. Roads were dry and sky was blue. ;)

I am heading to Steamboat Springs tomorrow for the weekend. Should be a blast if the roads are decent. I am getting together with my sister and a couple of old friends and we're getting a condo for the weekend. I am so looking forward to it!

Should see some lovely scenery in that area. I have only been through Steamboat a couple of times and it's really pretty country.

Hope all of you have a terrific weekend, too!

Sandy

Jim, if you check-in here I hope you and yours have a shipload of fun and keep the lifeboats empty. Please get some rest while on-board; you have been working too hard:rolleyes::rolleyes::D

Sandy, sounds like you have a weekend planned that I would enjoy. Have a good'un!:):)

Evening, everyone.

Jeffrey, sounds like things worked out OK in the end. I have same problem understanding the Asian subcontinent version of English. I don't even bother calling Charter if I have a problem since their call center is Mumbai, India.

Chris, home health nurses and aides do have a tough job, and sometimes in some rough neighborhoods. All the Hospice nurses and aides that worked with Jean in her final year of life were outstanding. It's not a job I could do and I have a lot of respect for them. Handing out government cheese is at least a little safer and less stressful. You know, of course, while you're "unemployed", the list of tasks you must do, since you're now officially a bum, will just continue to grow. :) That was one thing about being a full-timer in a motorhome. There are only so many things you can do to something that's 26 feet long.

Barry, Arnold S-2's? I haven't seen one of those in a long time. They were good runners for their day and one of the better looking incarnations of an S-2. I'm glad to hear at least one train shop owner is looking to fill a niche market instead just stocking the latest RTR stuff. I hope your head/stomach thing goes away. It's about time for the seasonal flu to start rearing it's ugly head.

Sandy, the good thing about Denver is it usually does get sunny and the snow does melt. In Cleveland, once it snowed, it was on the ground until March. Ugh! I hated that. Steamboat is a really nice area but I'll bet it'll be mobbed for the first skiing weekend of the year. I remember the traffic up there as being a real nightmare, especially if the snow started back up.

Thanks, Rex. The best thing about the trip is that there's no cell phone service unless you're willing to pay about $20 a call. That means the two girls won't be calling momma every 15 minutes with the latest gossip or complaining about some perceived wrong that was done to them. I may able to get a word in edgewise without being interrupted by another phone call. I will do my best to stay out of any lifeboats. :) Have fun on your camping trip too. If it was my choice, I'd be headed for the woods for a week.

Spent most of the day packing and getting things in order for the trip. We're flying AirTrans, which charges $15 for the first bag and $25 for each additional bag, so I've got it down to one carry-on and one checked bag. Dianna made a huge sacrifice and only has two giant suitcases we have to check. I have no idea what women have to take for a one week trip that can take that much space but I just try to stay out of the way and not ask too many questions.

We leave in the morning for Atlanta for an overnight stay and fly out to San Juan at 11:55 am. I forgot we gain an extra hour of sleep tomorrow night so that should help make things a little easier, as well as not driving up there and getting on a plane in one day.

It was really warm and humid today but, as usual, it looks like the cold front and its line of storms is falling apart. What little rain has developed has been in a thin band between Tuscaloosa and here. The NWS had a tornado watch out earlier but has now canceled it. I have no idea why they thought there was any chance of a tornado anyway. The tropics, surprisingly, remain quiet, with no signs of any disturbed weather. I hope that bodes well for the cruise. I'm taking my baby netbook with me and I'll try to check in tomorrow form Atlanta. If not, I'll see you all in a week. Chris, remember to bring up that pressure washer and giant hedge trimmer if you have a party while I'm gone. Just in case, you know, so you'll have something to do if you get bored. :)

Awwwww.....Maaaaaann! Came home from mowing to found my Trinity Angles Leap Bridge broken:mad::mad: One of my sons friend(Not sure which one got into my train room and broke the bridge beyond the point of repair:mad::mad: I'm more mad at myself for not putting the lock back on the trainroom door! I'm also glad that everything else was put away and the kid or kids didn't find them too!

I'm not going to build another bridge, I'll come up with something else to do in that box.:o:( I'm not going to ruin Halloween for my son and his friends by going on a witch hunt for the SOB who broke the bridge. But instead this will be the last time for this group of kids stays over night until the guilty party is weeded out:mad: But the Hay ride will go on as planed at 5pm any of you guys want to go trick or treating with us......very little walking!:D

TRICK-or-TREAT!:D

Chris - wow, that truly sucks about that bridge! Are you positive its beyond repair?

Jim - have a great cruise, try to drink only bottled water if you can...;)

Jeff - I have some internet issues of my own to deal with. My FiOS router's electrical power jack is hanging by a thread, and Verizon sent me one to replace it. Even though physically it's a straight swap-out, I'll have to do some things to configure it to works at my IP address. I suspect I'll be talking with one of those India techs to help me figure this out, joy of joys...

It's been a dull, dreary day around here, threatening rain on-and-off. I've been drawing up track plans to avoid having duckunders. Even with all the extra space I'll have from eliminating the wall shelves, I still can't seem to avoid sacrificing at least one of the major scenic/operational assets of the existing layout. I posted a plan on Fugate's site that I thought would give me everything, but there's a hard-core group of guys who seem to think having any track more than 24" from the aisle is an unforgivable sin of layout design - even if I put step benches with traction tape along the areas of 30-inch reach. One guy said I should put grip rails on the ceiling (!?) and fancy kitchen step-ladders. Sheesh! I'll just see what my guest operators themselves have to say, since they are the ones who'll have to live with my decision.

Have a good'un!

I picked up three new Bachmann freight cars today. Two covered hoppers (Shell Plastics, Santa Fe Conditionaire) and one three dome tank car (Deep Rock). I just sprayed them with Clear Flat and they're outside drying right now.

How much rain did we get in the past couple of days? Vernon Lake has gone from 12 feet below normal level to 6 inches below normal level in less than 48 hours, and this is a lake that covers thousands of acres.

My arms are longer than yours,,,,no worries here!:D

ken,I might have a problem with a 30" reach. I've got long arms, but my belly might get in the way. Who's this Fugate anyway? I'd like to visit the site. Some of my modules are over 30" deep, with industrial spurs even. And my main yard is a 48" wide peninsula, but is operated from two sides.

Jeffrey, just because you are feeling better and the foot is healing nicely is no permission to go back to your old ways. Watch yourself.

Wasn't Vernon drawn down for repairs back in June? I've fished that lake many years ago. About 1991 or so. I took a bit of time off and traveled around with my bass boat fishing some of the lakes that BASS made famous. I caught a ton of bass in Vernon Lake but nothing with any size. 2-3 pounders were the norm.

Chris, so Gomez Addams visited, eh? I would hope the kid that busted the bridge admits the fact. I do imagine that the truth will come out..........eventually. Ban all the boys in attendance from your home and it may expedite the truth coming out. Someone besides the culprit(s) knows something, I'm sure.

Good morning.

It's 55 and very, very wet. The high will be around the mid 60's and it will continue to be very wet.

I got my new DVR (replacement for the old one) hooked up last night and got it all programmed despite frequent interruptions by the heavy rains blacking out the satellite signal. The most maddening part of the process was getting the unit activated. I called the number supplied with the paperwork and got a tech (definitely not in the US) who had a very pronounced accent that really threw my hearing problem (aphasia) for a loop. I had to have him slow way down so I could understand what he was saying. He got the idea and spoke more slowly and now I could understand him. Before his voice was just a meaningless ramble of scrambled sounds. I gave him the info he needed to activate the receiver and had the unit up and running in about ten minutes. All I had to do now was set up my favorites list and enter the shows I wanted recorded. I had written all this down before disconnecting the old unit, a lesson I learned the hard way many years ago. It took about an hour, twice the amount of time it should have but again the heavy rain was proving to be a problem. Eventually everything was set up and ready to go. The very first show to be recorded was 'Voyages' on History International. The program was 'Trains Unlimited - Circus Trains'.
