Hmmm...
Jim, I work on RVs for a living, and you wouldn't believe some of the stuff--then again, maybe you would
.
I can't remember if you said, what year is the RV, and what engine does it have? If it's carbureted, the float may be stuck closed, or other internal parts gummed up. Does the fuel tank have a drain plug? You may have to drain the tank, hopefully it's not full.
As for premium gas burning hotter, I don't think so. It burns slower. 87 octane burns faster than 93. The lower the octane the faster it burns. The flame front from combusting air/fuel inside an engine generally travels around 55 mph, when you hear the pinging, the flame front has gone supersonic, and the noise you are hearing is little sonic booms inside your engine. If you've been in your hoouse when a plane flying over mach 1 goes over, you know how everything in your house rattles around, and sometimes dishes and windows get broken. That's what is happening inside the engine. The additives in premium fuel allow it to burn more slowly, so the compression of the engine doesn't pre-ignite the fuel.
