I know.....ain't I the talkative one this mornin'?

And a Good Morning to you, sir!!:D:D

Good Morning--

Got those ol' dull showery days upon us with the high at 13C.

Gonna see some sun tomorrow----maybe---

I'm gonna hand lay a new industrial spur for a new industrial park in my Exceda Wye yard----that'll be fun!:):D

Have a good one ---people!:D:D

Good morning folks.

Jim, I hope this trip is better than your last two. You should probably just stay home! Maybe buy a new TV instead.:)

My ninety one year old grandmother has decided to move into an assisted living home. It's something that we have been quietly hoping she'd want to do. Up until now she's done just fine by herself, but she's starting to slow down. She is one of the most spunky ladies you'll ever meet. There would have been NO forcing her to move, so I'm glad that she's ready. One unfortunate side effect of this situation is what to do with her stuff. If she had passed away, we could take the good stuff and donate the rest. To her it's all good stuff, so we may have a battle on our hands. I guess I know what I'll be doing this spring!:(

I now have three building kits in some state of paint or construction. Two are for the downtown scene and one is the start of my rural scene. I wasn't quite ready to start the rural scene but I found a kit that I've always wanted. I figured that I may as well start that area too.

It's starting to look like winter outside. No snow on the ground yet, but with the wind yesterday, most of the trees are bare. I'm not sure I'm ready for winter yet!

Have a great day everyone!

Corey My parents moved to an assisted living unit 4 years ago.My mom thought everything she had was good. LOL LOL She only got to keep what we could fit into the apartment. The rest went to the St Vincent DePaul Society who put it to good use. We filled up a pickup and a pickup bed trailer and when they left they were loaded to the gills. When they moved form the assisted living to the nursing home we went through the whole process again. This time the only thing they got to keep was the Grandfather Clock, TV, Dresser, and a table my brother Joe made and gave them. She is still mad because we got rid of almost everything but there was no use in storing it and none of the family wanted any of it. We did discard a couple of things we wished we would have kept but only three or four items. When they moved to assisted living and we cleaned out the house it looked like she had never cleaned form the day they moved into the house. Dad gained about 15 lbs the first month. We later found out she had stopped cooking and all he was getting was TV dinners. Whenever we took them out for supper or lunch he always ate like he had not eaten in months and I guessed he hadn't.
I am glad she decided to do it on her own like my parents did if you try to force them they hold it against you and can make life miserable for you.

I received my new Dish Network DVR receiver via UPS today. I still have about 10 hours of shows to transfer from the old one to VHS tapes. Once that's done I'll change the receivers out and send the old one back to Dish Network.

Afternoon, everyone.

Good afternoon, Phillip. I hope things are improving in your part fo the world.

Jeffrey, glad to hear the wounds are coming along nicely. I guess transfering 10 hours of video should keep you busy for today. :)

Chris, sure Flori-duh is nice now. It's the other 45 weeks of the year that it's intolerable. It's sunny, 75, and low humidity here. It would be like paradise if every day was like this.

Corey, I'm glad your grandma made the decison on her won. I think about things like this, now that I'm advancing towards Medicare age. I hope I'm able to either make it on my own as long as your mom or croak first. The concept of assisted living isn't too appealing to me. :( Once she's settled in, you'll have the chance to go through the house and toss or give away the things she'll obviously never need again. If the house isn't being sold, you can leave the other things there for a while and consider what to do later. Our leaves are just starting to turn. I was never ready for that bleak looking landscape when I lived in Ohio.

Larry, sounds like you went about it the right way. I really wouldn't like people going through my stuff either, but it has to be done. I was lucky that both my parents were basically independent until they died. My dad had to spend his last month in a nursing home because he developed dementia and my brothers couldn't care for him. I'm glad he only made it a month. Nothing worse than seeing a guy who you thought was one of the smartest guys in the world in that state.

Getting some more RV maintenance in today. Topped off the battery water and ran the generator for half an hour under load with the A/C on. No problems there. Tried starting her up and....nothing. The engine cranks but not even a sputter. Now, I'm thinking to myself, why didn't I put that fuel stabilizer in the tank when I said I was going to. I'll leave it sit for a while and see if any fuel gets to the engine then. If it still won't start, I'm not sure what I'll do next. RV's just don't like sitting around. Assuming the girls finally get out of college and out of here, maybe we can hit the road again for a while.

Hey All!

It is 30 degrees and snowing like crazy. It has snowed all day and we have about 7 inches of the white stuff right now. I brought work home to do today so I wouldn't have to drive to work...so it's a good day! Tomorrow will be a different story~ :o

Jim...It's been a few years since I skiied. Might just give it a try this season. I really do prefer Spring skiing as opposed to Winter skiing because it is so much warmer. However...I love Winter powder. Prices came down this year because foks were getting tired of paying $130-$200 per day lift ticket prices. This year Winter Park, my favorite slope, is just $84 per day. Then of course there are the rental costs.

Jeffrey....glad to hear that your foot is healing well. Seems like you are following docs orders and staying down. How is your vision doing?

If I venture out again before dark, I will try to get a picture or two. IF... :p

Stay warm!

Sandy

Visions doing OK now. I've got my night vision back and that makes things a bit easier as I don't have to have the place brightly lit anymore.

Jim I had a 16 horse Bolens Mower given to me several years ago that had sat for 10 years in a heated garage with fuel in it and the vacuum that was mounted on the back. A good friend told me to get some Marathon premium gas and let it set for a day or two. I did that and the vacuum started on the first pull and ran like a pickle seeder. The 16 horse Tecumseh had to have the bowl on the carb and the fuel pump disassembled and cleaned and it started on the second crank after the new battery was installed. I do not know if you any Marathon stations down in Bama but I would think any premium fuel would do the same thing. I still have that Bolens tractor sitting in my shop, in the way of everything. I tried to rebuild the motor a few years ago and cannot get it to run. After I got it all put together and not getting it running I just let it set and used my old Kubota I traded in last year. I was talking to a mechanic a couple of years ago and told him how it acted and he told me that when you rebuild one of those motors you need to install two gaskets between the crankcase halves because the rebuild kits gaskets are to thin and that is why it will not turn over fast enough to start. I have lost interest in it and cannot sell it so I am going to give it to a neighbor and let him play with it. I told him if he got it running and we found a buyer I would split whatever we get out of it 50/50.

They don't think they even sell premium gas down here anymore. I think it's ust unleaded and unleaded plus. I'll check next time I go to get gas, which will likely be this weekend.

Larry and Jim,

We're hoping to sort through the house without her there. Somehow I don't think that is going to happen though. We'll all have to take a share of the 'crap' and store it until she can't remember who has what! Then we'll donate at will.:)

Good Evening All!
Today marks the 43d year of marriage for the wifey and me. Man, what a long time with good times and bad times, and now better times;):). I thought that I could get away from going out to dinner by just a dozen roses and a present, but neeewww. We are going to Red Lobster for a seafood treat shortly and I get to spend more MR money:D.

Corey, I feel for you. My 94 y.o. Mom just went to assisted living. We finally have all her furniture and things like that taken care of, but I still have to sell her car and mobile home. It's a P.I.A., but at least she is safe and has adapted well to her new home...she actually likes it better;):).

Larry: we used to have Marathon stations, but they disappeared several years ago along with many others.

Ya'll take care while we go and charge up on cholesterol.

The premium fuel works pretty well because of the higher octane. What I used was the unleaded variety 93 octane. I would not recommend using the higher octane at full strength just some to let it dissolve any build up of crap. I only put less than half a tank in when I did it and after setting overnight or longer filled the tank the rest of the way with regular.

Well, I took the plunge today. The boss called me in for a big pow wow in his office, one-on-one. He wanted to know a whole bunch of things that were really billing questions, and I'm the head of service. When I told him that I really didn't have the answers to his questions because they weren't in my department, but my past paperwork that I do (my department reports) should provide enough information to piece it together for the most part, but I'll still have some missing pieces of the puzzle that are out of my area, he was not really satisfied. At that point I told him that if he'd give me the authority, I'll find out the rest of the puzzle and make daily reports that will answer any question he ever had. I now have a VERY full plate! To top it off, when we covered how I quote out parts and tech rates, he found that I was well exceeding his expectations (both what he expects, and what he figured he'd find that I was doing) there too. I think it kinda shocked him, because the billing department and office manager have been saying I'm doing a poor job appearently. I was able to back up my story by having him and I physically walk to their desks, not mine, and pull my paperwork off of their desks to prove what I was saying. I hate to do that to my coworkers, but I was just telling the truth. Anyways, it seems as if the hotseat is no longer in my area, but has moved elsewhere.

Don't you just love those that sneak around your backside! Good for you to knock these ones onto their keisters! :D:D

Have no fear about the higher Octane fuels. Small engines have even smaller fuel systems, and they are quite delicate. So much so that many things you can do to a car engine, (like spraying carb cleaners into them) you cannot do on smaller engines. Many newer carburators in small engines (in order to comply with emissions laws) use small neoprene check valves that most carb cleaners will destroy. Also, compressed air cleaning can be too brutal on these little parts. How little you ask? Some only 2-3 mm in size.
Higher octane fuels also contain higher levels and better quality detergents than lower grade gas. Most small engine makers state that you have to use 87 octane at a minimum yet some are bolder and recomend 89 or higher. One manufacturer (Stihl) recommends 89 octane at a minimum and 92 octane as a preferred fuel for their weedeaters, edgers, trimmers, tillers and chain saws. Why? Higher octane fuels also burn more evenly inside the cylinder, promoting longer engine life by reducing hotspots inside the cylinders. Plus they keep the carbs cleaner, and are slightly slower to turn into varnish over time.

"I did that and the vacuum started on the first pull and ran like a pickle seeder."

Larry....a "pickle seeder"? That is too funny! I have never heard that one before. What a hoot!!

I am cold! It's about 23 degrees and my toes are cold! Guess I should put on some socks.

Have a great evening!

Sandy

Congrats, Rex. That is certainly a long time with one person. How did she tolerate you that long?

Higher octane gas actually "fires" at a higher temperature. Have you ever had an engine in your car "knock"? The fuel is firing prematurely in the cylinder. By using a higher octane, the fuel ignites at a higher temp, thus relieving the knock. I've used racing fuel in my Dixon before. 120 octane no additives. Just a tank though. The Kohler loved it. I pulled the plugs after using the fuel and they looked like new!!!! So, every spring the mower gets one tank of 120. It still has the plugs that were in it when I bought it. Also try NOT to use fuel with ethanol as the ethanol attracts moisture. And that's definitely not good for your engines. I get the gas for my mower at the marina. Marine fuel doesn't have ethanol, for reasons you may now understand.
