Good Morning

We're currently at -1C with a windchill of -6C. Getting a cloudy day with sunny periods and the high at 7C today. Tonight it will clear up and our low will go to -4C. Frost? What frost?:rolleyes:

Got the weekend seminars to do. And then it will be get home early evening:)---instead of at 12:30AM the next day:mad: as has happened ----

Jim I think that the northern plains are not the happiest region to be in during the winter---unless you like cross country skiing. Man, that area can get COLD!!:eek: Mind, around here we can get barrels of snow in a hurry. Snowsqualls set up anywhere here and surprise one with the amount. I remember one from a couple of years ago that dumped almost 40" of snow in a 6 hour period. Left London ON shut down for about a day.

Chris Audrey and I love the work you did on those handbills. They are eye catching--:):)

Well, gotta get some stuff organized here---have a good one:D:D

Phillip, people go down to Denver to warm up in the Winter. Wyoming in the winter can be absolutely brutal, especially in places like Rock Spring. I spent two weeks there on a job in February and ended up getting frost bite on my nose just from walking to the car from hotel. The wind never stops blowing, so it ranges from uncomfortable to downright dangerous in the winter. I'd move back to Cleveland before ever moving to Wyoming, and you know how much I like Cleveland. :D

You lie not! That wind never stops blowing on the high plains.......EVER! Cheyenne is about 40 miles east of the end on the mountains, so everything comes down off of them and dumps there. Laramie, just inside the first ridge in the valley, is like a whole different country. It's calm there, with low winds and mountains on all sides to protect it.

Brrrr, 38 cold, damp, rainy, yechy degrees outside. :(

Wife wants to clean the house, and I can't escape!

Somebody save me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!:eek::p;):rolleyes::D:eek:

If the wife wants to clean house, I say let her! If you're like me, you can sleep through about anything! (Glad my wife doesn't read my posts!)

Ohhhhhhhhhhh........I'd say $50.00 will be a start to the hush money payment's!;):p

My wife would drop a brick on your head if you slept while she cleaned the house, you'd be lucky if you wake up at all............Man I'm going to get you in so much trouble..........Let my wife talk to your wife that should do it....hehehehehehehe....

G;ad I don't have that kind of problem. Could be because I don't have a wife. If I want the house cleaned I can hire a maid.

Hi everyone! It's a very cool and windy 56 degs in T-town. Today is U of Bama homecoming and we are packed with fans everywhere. I could hardly drive around yesterday and don't dare try to go anywhere today. Game time isn't until 6:45pm CST, so many are roaming around for other activities.

We are really enjoying that new HDTV even if we don't get connected to HD until Wednesday. The resolution on standard broadcast is amazing. We still couldn't wait and I went out and bought a Blue-Ray DVD player. The guy told me that Sony dropped their price to $199...he didn't tell me that I would have to buy a HDMI cable at $69 :D. Anyhoo, we watched a Blue-ray DVD movie last night and it was incredible...almost 3D and you could see the hair on a gnats b***s.:D:D

Chris: love your spirit, man! Ain't nobody going to knock you down for the count. ;):)

I got's a 52" HD plasma.........I still don't have a HD:rolleyes: I'm going to spring for a Sony PS3/Blueray player as soon as I can save up for it! Only thing HD i have is my son's Wii......amazing!

We got the Sony BlueRay BDP-S360 model. Lots of bells and whistles, but I haven't even read the book yet:o:o. Having a Sony TV with that Bravia communication link, it set itself up. It is suppose to play standard HD DVD's at 1080p and look pretty darn good. May give it a try with standards this weekend AND after I can READ the book:D.

I have a 37" Vizio HD flat screen and a Philip's 1080p DVD player. Watched Roadhouse on it the first night and I could have counted every single whisker on Patrick Swayze's face if I wanted to. Amazing clarity!

Afternoon, everyone.

Jeffrey, there are times that no wife doesn't sound like a bad thing. Chris, I'll forward you the $50 hush money by paypal. :D

Rex, I can imagine that T-Town is a madhouse today. I had to go to town earlier and have to cross 82 to get there. It looked like LA at rush hour. I had to wait five minutes for a break in traffic to get across and then had to floor it because I had six jacked up pickups with Bama flags all over them on my butt in seconds. Seems like the Tide should be able to dispose of South Carolina pretty easily. Vegas has them as 17 point favorites and the over bet is 43.5 points. No one seems to be betting on South Carolina. The return right now is $110 on a $5 bet for SC vs. $4 for a $5 bet on Bama. That's one of the biggest spreads I've seen, as the boys try to get some action going for SC.

Geez, you guys with your HD TV's and BluRay's make me feel like a troglodyte. :D I do actually have a 19" HD LCD TV in the RV because the old one finally blew up but I have a regular old CRT 32" in the living room. I will say that, after seeing the off the air HD picture in the RV, it really is something. If I watched TV more often, I'd probably spring for a new HD TV for the house but the one I have is fine for the Weather Channel, CNBC, and Fox News, which are about the only things I watch.

Karl, no one can save you from household chores when it's 38 and raining. I can sometime retreat to the basement muttering something about a bad switch and get an hour's nap before she finds me and rousts me out of bed. I have a futon down there that makes up into a bed. Very handy thing to have sometimes.

I see balloon boy's dad is playing the media for all it's worth. Now he has a "big announcement" he's supposed to make sometime today and put a cardboard box on the porch for the media to deposit questions. I don't know what he's up to but, if I was the sheriff, I'd be there with my cuffs at the ready. That guy needs to go to jail...and get some psychiatric help.

Brrrr...it's even colder down here than at Rex's place, 53, cloudy, and windy. I know that sounds pretty good to guys like Barry but we're freezing to death down here. I was going to put the seam tape on the RV roof today but you're not supposed to apply it below 60 degrees. I can just see it blowing around like a kite on the roof today. Dianna and my SIL are out shopping {gasp!} so I can be a slacker for a while. My downtown spur has developed a dead spot in the street trackage (where else, right) so I need to see if there's a fix I can do without tearing up the street, which would be a mess. I soldered all the track joints really good before I laid down the pavement just so this wouldn't happen. Grrr... Has anyone tried soldering across the top of the railhead at a joint and then grinding it down? I think I can restore the conductivity if I have to do that but I've never tried it before.

Hey All...
It is a most beautiful day in the neighborhood! 63 degrees with clear skies. I need to get out and take some pictures.

Philip...Cheyenne IS windy...but Boulder is notorious for those 75 MPH "gusts". And since I would rather be cool than warm, negative temps sound much better that 100+. ;)

I cannot seem to tell the difference in HD and not HD. It especially bugs my brother when I am watching his HD. He'll switch back and forth and I really see little change and he (and everyone else) ooh and ahhh over it.

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday!
Sandy

Good Evening--

Now the nice weatherguessers have pushed our low to -6C for tonight---I'm still asking "Frost? What Frost?":rolleyes::rolleyes:

Very busy day what with all the dang seminar jumping abouts!! Glad tomorrow is coming up---have Monday-Wednesday off---:D:D:D

Jim If you are a troglodyte then we must be pithecanthropus. The only TV we get is through the internet for us--and we use a 19" flat screen. IF we even are using the dang thing. We don't really watch TV much here--we're more book/magazine people with attached internet.:):) For what you guys are getting that is getting chilly. Which direction is the wind blowing from? The joint can be soldered across the top--I've done it a few times--but be very careful about the stuff surrounding the joint.

Waaah waaah waaah!!!
You guys ain't nothing. Calling yourselves these rarely heard, even more rarely understood, high falootin names just cuz you are a little behind the technology curve.
My heart bleeds for ya!
Around here, a flat screen is what you have when you open the porch door and hit ma sister in the chest.:p
I'm watchin NASCAR right now on a big old console TV with tubes.
Gotta special name for that one??

I do!;)

It's called Cheap! :D;):p:rolleyes::cool:

Greetings folks.

It sounds like everyone is keeping busy theses days. We had a strange yellow thing in the sky today. It almost felt like it projected warmth. I'm sure it will go away tomorrow.:(

We are having the in laws over tomorrow for dinner so I decided to clean the layout and layout room. I can't believe how much stuff I had out just in case I needed it. I actually did a deep cleaning of left over kits, scenery supplies, random detail pieces and tools. I organized underneath the layout after I came to the conclusion that not everything needed to be within arms reach at all times. Like ground foam, why do I need the different foams out when I'm building city building kits? I don't know, so I put them back in the clear totes under the layout. After all of the organizing, I vacuumed the track and surrounding blue prairie. I can't believe how much better it looks. Granted, this isn't the first time I've cleaned the layout, so I know it will get dirty and cluttered again. However, I've never organized the different tools and products into categories before. Hopefully I can keep it clean this time!

Tomorrow should be a great day off. I just hope the Vikings can keep the streak going. Go Vikings!

Have a great night folks.

Good early morning, everyone.

Sandy, I was in Boulder one January when we had 95 mph wind gusts. There shingles were flying everywhere, on top of a -26 degree windchill. Oh, I forgot to mention the hailstorms too. I still had the dents in my Acura to prove it when it was sold. Yeah, real nice place to live.

Barry, I'm more a book/magazine person too. It's strange having my brother visitng because he and his wife have certain shows they have to watch every night. Real educational stuff, like CSI Whatever. I'd say that -6C pretty much guarantees frost. :) I was looking at that joint tonight, although I didn't get the time to grab the iron and do any work because the wife had something for me to do every five minutes when she got back from shopping. The street is styrene on both sides of the joint so I have to figure out how to heat up the rail enough to get solder in the joint without melting the street. I need a bunch of tiny heat sinks or something. BTW, the wind is blowing form the northwest, almost directly from London. I think you had something to do with this. ;)

Karl, you're just jealous because Barry and me paid attention during English class while you were staring blankly out the window. :D My brother also likes NASCAR, so we had four hours of that tonight, with the same cars going round and round, minus the wrecks, which is what most people seem to watch NASCAR for anyway. I like your flat screen analogy though.

Corey, I reorganized the layout while cleaning the basement and went through what you did. Everything is in labeled boxes now. That will last for a month, tops, before it's spread all over the place again. I'm just not an organized guy when it comes to train supplies. Farve is doing pretty good for a broken down old has-been. I'm just pulling for the Browns to beat someone...anyone. :(

Bama won and Auburn lost so there is joy in the house tonight. Neither Florida nor Alabama beat the spread so I think their rankings will stay the same.

I see the sheriff executed a search warrant on balloon boy's house tonight. The sheriff said he's going to file charges although he's still not saying it was a hoax. There was no doubt in my mind it was a hoax from the time the kid "wandered" down from the attic all by himself. I hope they get the FAA involved and dogpile charges on him from the Feds. They can then bill him for the cost of the search, which should be substantial. I hope child protective services takes a close look at the family situation also, since there have been past calls of domestic violence. I know the dad is a whack job. I haven't hear much from mom but she has to be a little off her rocker to be living with this fruitcake.

It's down to 44, cloudy, and still a bit breezy. It should clear out tomorrow, which means we have a chance for our first frost Sunday night. It's ahrd to believe I was out in the garage in shorts and a t-shirt, sweating my buns off two days ago. Number one daughter wants to go to the state fair tomorrow but she can forget it if it's as cold as it was today. Even deep fried Oreo's can't get me out in that. :D

Good Morning--

Current temperature is now -3C. The low--according to my so called weather monitor out back was -6C at 5am. We were dry enough to avoid hoar frost but there is frost out here. Gonna be a sunny one today and tomorrow--actually should reach 11C this afternoon and go to the low of -3C tonight--we'll have some sun and cloud mix tomorrow and the high up to 13C...;)

Going to church this morning then off to the university to pick up some stuff and seminars---might get some MR time later--;)

Jim My dad had a layout that had street running on it--one time he had an issue with a joint that just so happened to be in the street. What he did was to make a scene from it---he stripped off about 1/2" off the styrene from each side of the rails that needed resoldering---placed little orange cones around the area, making for a scene involving construction destruction:rolleyes:--went at it then redid the area with black styrene--as in new pavement----voila! new street!!;) It took time but he had fun doing it:)-----BTW---in a few weeks we'll be into the NW winds be giving us the snowsquall fits:(

Karl The flat screen analogy was a hoot!!:D:D

Well, have a good one people---take care:)
