Fellows,
I am getting ready to start my first HO layout. I have a Bachmann 2-10-2 DCC equipped Santa Fe. I am not going big, probably 1 to 2 sheets plywood, and run max of 2 trains. I have pretty much decided on using Atlas Super-flex track and Woodland scenics roadbed. I need advice on first DCC controls. Would the Zephyr starter set, by Digitrax be a good set to start with. I would like to hear advice on any of these ideas, but especially on which DCC outfit that may be best for me. Many thanks.

Zephyr starter set, by Digitrax is a great choice. I myself have it and use it with my throttle DT400IR and a UR91 trans/receiver. It is a great base to start with and learn from and will grow with your layout. Alot of guys have it. There are so many other good systems out there too. I personal went with for price, expansion, be able to read and program CV values for decoders (which you will learn about soon enough) and a bonus reason is that my club uses Digitrax as well as a few of my friends.

PS~ Welcome aboard! Glad to have you!

The Zephyr is a good starter... and for the size of the layout you are planning will probably be fine for the job.

Where are you located? If your anywhere near MD you could stop by and see us. We are having a factory rep from Digitrax on the 19th of August for a presentation and workshop.

DCC choice

Thanks Alcomotive and MTS. There are a lot of good choices out there, but after doing some comparing it seemed that the Zephyr would be just about right for what I am planning for the foreseeable future. Model railroading has completely changed since I ran Lionel's as a teenager, which was 40 years ago. With all thats out there today, I feel like a caveman trying to learn to fly a 747.
Anyways, it's what I have been wanting to do for a long time, so I'll take it a step at a time and learn as I go. This is a wonderful forum, with so much information and advice from great folks. I thank you fellows and the others that have helped me, I have learned a great deal already.
MTS sounded familiar. Last month I purchased my Spectrum Loco and 4 set Spectrum passenger car set from M.B. Klein, great company. Being in a rush like a kid at Christmas, I ordered the wrong Engine. I should have ordered the 4-8-2 for the passenger service. I am going to pattern my railroad after the Southern Railway line, as I live in Georgia. I was going to run one passenger train and one freight, so when I get ready to order freight cars, I'll just order the 4-8-2. Many thanks.
