Rich's flashing crossing lights in action! Video shows crossing lights from kit above featuring crossing arms constructed with scrap stuff.

The detectors need to be further from the actual crossing to get the lights to come on sooner, this was my mistake in figuring out where to put stuff.

The model power locomotive is about as cheap as it comes, but I like the way it works and whe way it looks. This thing actually fell off the layout once (7' drop) and did not show any sign of damage, and worked fine afterwords as shown. I guess they made it so young people could use it without fear of instant mal function.

This will make a neat addition to any model setup. The directions worked fine and I really like the finished project.

Looking good. I am planning on installing a few, but at this point, I have a number of projects that have to be done before starting a project like this. I'll be needing a few of them.

Hi all; It's been kind of quiet here but not because I've been asleep. I just sent out my first flasher kit using reflective IR sensors for evaluation. The sensor are small enough to bury in the cork road-bed and fit between the ties to be almost invisible. (Well, you have to trim the ties a bit to make it fit.) The circuit is sensitive enough to give 100% coverage, even if you park the train so only the couplers are above the sensor. Same price as the transmissive system. Not for sale yet, but will be in a couple of weeks.

Work is continuing on the crossing gate controller with rather spectacular results. That'll be ready for evaluation in a couple more weeks. Yes, we have an above-the-table scheme already in place......

I'd be interested in the IR reflective system as I run both day and night sessions and need detection independant of visible light. Be sure to post when these become available.

Mark.

 LOL...totally.

I haven't read all of this, but after page three I felt as though I were in a dream...needing confirmation that this was actually happening.

If you get an above-the-board crossing gate system perfected, let me know! I have one place where I have flashers, but below the 5/8" plywood table top is a control panel and 2 x 4 support structure, and no place to put below-level actuators for the crossing gates.
