D'oh.

So, the trucks on real trains aren't bolted on? Seems like whenever I see a wreck, the trucks have fallen off. I assume they're pinned (w/thrust bearings) but are they just held in place by the weight of the car?

You are correct, the weight of the car keeps everything together and the trucks are not attached. Here is a better pic showing how it looks.

CSX derailment caught on tape.

Came across this video tonight. CSX train derails on a switch after its thrown manually. Not a real violent crash but pretty scary. Kind of reminds me of a model derailing over a switch. Cars hit the ground and get drug until the tip over sideways. It sounds from reading the comments the switch isnt the cause, nor is the operator that flipped the switch manually.

a friend i speak to online thru the csxriveline yahoo group posted that video. He sent it privately to certain people, im trying to find out if he was there when it happened.

Pretty scary stuff.

That was COOOOL! At least when my Model trains derail I can show this clip and say, ".....see I even model the accidents too!" Good find chris!

I am sorry if I offended anyone due to finding this funny but after working on the RR since 2000 I have seen my share of derailments and after a while it gets to be funny as long as A no one is hurt and B its not the crews fault. 90% of derailments are due to track conditions and lack of proper maintenance by the RR so they can save money, so its the RR fault most of the time and the humor I see is that they try to cut costs by deferring maintenance and it always bites them in the A$$.

I posted this message here because some people on Atlas didnt find humor in my post.
