Does Black vans in front of the house and black helicopters above count?:( Not sure what I did this time.....
Had an interesting day yesterday just before lunch and it was in-line with this. I was out in the shop putting down some ballast when I started hearing a helicopter circling. I went outside and he was flying a circle right overhead. Ah-ha, they were after someone nearby! (Hmmm! I best get out from under this tree, so they can see who I am ;)) I went to the front yard and the neighborhood was full of U.S. Marshalls and Detectives from the Sheriff's department; all in unmarked cars (oddly, I didn't see in city cops). While talking with the neighbor across the street, one of the fellows stopped and explained that they had tried to serve a warrant on a guy about 1/4 mile away and he bolted from them and headed into our area. The fugitive was unarmed and not thought to be dangerous. These officers were everywhere: in and out of backyards, in and around bushes and brush, jumping fences and avoiding nasty dogs, etc. They were not giving up the chase and this part went on for couple of hours.

After standing around for awhile, gawking and being nosy, I went back into the shop and continued working. In about 45 minutes, my dogs started raising hell and I heard a noise coming from the back of the shop. I grabbed my Glock and went around to investigate thinking/hoping that maybe it was one of the officers. There was nothing back there and I realized that it was a bad idea having a weapon with the tensed situation and put it back in the shop. I quickly walked out to the front yard and a neighbor came running around and said, " Hey! Did you know there was a man hiding in your carport!". I signaled the officers down the street with a yell and hand waves and MAN, you would have thought someone had opened a gate. They came out of the woodwork, jumped into their cars, and came highballing up to me. I told them where he was and the chase was on. When they went around to that side of the house, the fugitive had taken off again but other neighbors were getting involved and they were able to direct the officers down the street and on into a field. (The fugitive had come into my yard and behind the shop, on to and over the locked gate to the carport on the far side.)

While standing and talking with neighbors on that side (I have a corner lot), one of the Detectives came up and told us they caught him in a warehouse, not far away. I again asked if the man was violent and he said, "Well, he is not suppose to be, but he has 14 felony arrest warrants!" He thanked all of us for the excellent help and involvement then went his way. Soon, others came by and all thanked us (kinda made us feel good). The whole thing lasted about 4 hours.

I remained so pumped up that it was difficult to lay anymore ballast. So, that was my day. Fun huh? (As exciting as it was, I don't think we need anymore days like that ;):D)

Dang, Rex - I thought at the end you were going to tell us it was Chris!;) Sounds like you had much more excitement than you bargained for yesterday. We've had choppers circling my neighborhood from time to time, we`re close to the Patapsco valley where fugitives like to hideout alot.

Good Morning to everyone,

Sorry to hear about everyones troubles and the loss of loved-ones, thoes times aren't easy. Of course taking care of inujured or sick family isn't the easiest thing either especially when it's pretty time consuming. I know because that what detained me for the last few years from making any real progress on my layout as well as many other things.

Yesterday it was pretty cloudy here and looked like it might rain later on so knowing I had at least one more small leak to repair I wound up going up on the roof three times with Tar-paper patching sheets, about 14"x18" in size to stuff under the old Tar-paper and Shakes. The last time I went up was later toward evening and it's a good thing I did as over the area of the garage where the layout is there was a rather large open area that went down into the atic in the area of where there had been a leak before so I got that patched up along with three other questionable spots. By then I was pretty beat so I just sat here at the computer and for the most part on the forum here.

I thought we might get rain last night and today the way it looked yesterday afternooin but today is very Sunny and just great, a big surprise to me.

Speaking of the Black Helicopters that Chriss is joking about. I actually had a small all black-unmarked bubble front choppoer come and hover directly over the house and he wasn't up any higher than about 75' at the most. I happened to be out side at the time, but no camera in hand- darn. I could look up and plainly see the Piolit and other individual in the two seater. They defiantly held that position for about 20 seconds and then rotated 360* and left. Really weird to say the least! I also had, at an earlier time, a White/creme colored wing-over piper cub/cesna, again totally unmarked come swooping down the hill in back of the house very low too and pass by the end of the house and then over into the small valley across the way and circle around there a couple of times and then leave. In either case they were so low I could have easily thrown a rock up and hit them.

> > >

Now as far as the layout goes I'm ready to progress to the next bench work table that will hold Amalgamate Hill and the two mine of the upper line a wash and trussle across the front of in on the lower line but I set a 4'x4' piece of OSB on it and it's loaded with a bunch of stuff as well as all the rest of the Delany Iron Works building kit so I had better get that built so I can get that cleared off as well as other stuff so I can estend the lower line and then know where about the upper line will need to go in for the mines.
Even though I drew up plans there is still a fair amount of figuring to do to try and get everything to fit in and look as natural as poissible and to try and not have sheer cliffs in too many places that the lower line runs along. It gets to be a bit of a challenge working with limited space and trying to fit a fairamount in even with 20" radius curves.

Well time to have some breakfast, say Flow, how about three eggs and some sausage and more coffee it you would.

Take care.

As funny as it sound I think everyone here has a Black Mystery Aircraft Story to tell!
here's mine...
When I worked at the park I seen my fair share of low flying Drug planes flying over head with black unmarked DEA aircraft following. Funkiest Black plaine I seen was a black Prop driven delta fixed wing aircraft of some unknown type following a low flying dc-3 getting ready to make it's drop. Both me and my boss could not make out what kinda plane the DEA was flying just know it kinda looked like a baby B2 with a prop!

Any ways the black helecopter is gone now and i took the time to cut another tree down in my back yard. tuesday morning i'll take it to the dump then mow a few yards!

Sorry to hear about your loss. You and your family will continue to be in our prayers. Hopefuly, with all the prayers coming from this gang lately, somebody upstairs will get the message, we've had enough already!!;)

I know firsthand about that "packrat" syndrome. It's been 18 months since we moved my folks to assisted living, and still most weeks, we put 2 roll around dumpsters at the curb. One of our weekly trash, one of stuff we have liberated from the house. Room by room, we are slowly making progress. Hopefully soon, we'll get it done.

Rex- thats unreal, a very interesting story to say the least, probably a good idea to put away the glock :D

Ken- Yes sir heres a few more attached pictures of two of the black trucks. As for the camo truck, i could see something like that on a military base maybe

Heres my "scary black aircraft" story

About a month ago me and my dad were wathcing TV around 9pm when a police car drove down the street with its spotlight looking in yards and a helicopter flew around. Thinking they were looking for someone my dad took the .40 and went out and locked the camper and the garage. He came back and we just kinda did the nosy onlooker thing and looked out the windows while watching TV. Well we noticed that a car was stopped out front with someone frantically waving and pointing to our sideyard. Within seconds 4 police cars pulled into my driveway and in front of the house, and the chopper was hovering right above. I saw one officer go around the garage and another two head around for the other fence. Another one came to the door and told us theyre was a moose in our yard! A moose! I live in the middle of a village and theres only 500 moose in all of NYS, so apparently it was a big deal for one to be in my backyard :rolleyes: Regardless by the time i made it out back with a camera the moose went over the fence and i didnt get any pics, but the tracks in the horseshoe pits were cool.

Karl: Your mention of "packrat syndrome" reminds me of a job I once had with another fellow cleaning out and auctioning off items from houses. A call from one home inspection company asking whether we did emergency cleanups brought us to a hose where a couple had apparently passed on. The house was just crammed to the ceiling on both floors with all manner of JUNK!!:( We had to get into the house via an ATTIC WINDOW!!:eek::eek::confused:

That was the first time I ever heard of a variation on OCD being called "Packrat Syndrome":cool:

The only helicopter stories I can tell anyone about are the ones I had to jump out of(still moving, in a hot LZ), bullets whizzing everywhere, the chopper giving off a resounding 'clank, clank, clank' from taking hits.............

Larry, God's strength, buddy.

Rex, you sound like Dirty Harry, though the gun be a bit small...... I had a similar experience years ago. This guy had just shot two people. He pulled out a .25 and I had a .45. He dropped his gun and chewed some turf. I said to him, " I've got some bada$$ rounds(Golden Sabres) in here. They go in the size of your finger and then blow a hole the size of your fist on the way out. Ya want me to show ya?" He tossed the gun and got on ground.

The cops, though, acted like I was the perp. Yellin' and screamin' like I was the bad guy. I held the gun high, ejected the clip and racked the bullet from the chamber. Then I gingerly laid the gun at my feet and kept my hands high. They acted like a bunch of Barney Fifes. Idiots. I should have taken them into the house and shown them some REAL firepower. Most would make the Colt look like a cap gun. Had they only known. lol

lraK, packrat? You should see my workbench and the shelving in there....... I'll use it some day.....I think.

Bob

It's 44 here and the rain finally quit. The roads are ripe for some monster mudder action, not that I have anything to do with that kind of thing.

sounds like fun if your into that kind of thing. I myself prefer to keep my offroad toy on the rocks. Actually spent 7 hours today adding rock sliders (square and round tube below the rocker panel) so next time I go out with it i can come home with less damage, hopefully

Evening, everyone.

Larry, I'm glad to hear the funeral is over and went well. I know what you mean about packrats. Both my parents were the same and they had stuff like toothpaste that would have lasted another lifetime. My mom just couldn't resist buying what was on sale. :)

Rex, I figure that that guy must have been way up there on the most wanted list for them to spend that much time searching. We usually gave up after about 45 minutes and went to lunch for the ordinary bad guy. Probably not a good idea to go out armed in a situation like that unless you have a badge hanging around your neck. Did you hear any of the traffic on your scanner? That's your best freind when something like this going on. It sounds like you and the neighbors did a good job keeping track of the thug and helped getting him cornered. I'm glad the officers stopped by to thank you. Most of the bad guys we caught was because citizens went out of their way to help us.

Bob, some cops are a little more nervous than others. It's always hard when you walk up on a situation with two citizens with guns but it sounds like they should have been able to figure out sooner you were the good guy. Still sounds less dangerous than a hot zone LZ though.

Barry, we had a check the welfare call on an old woman who hadn't been heard from in a week. We tried to force our way in but the door was blocked by piles of newspapers. Couldn't see in any of the windows because it was nothing but trash to the ceiling. Had to get the fire department to go in through the attic. It took us about a half hour to find a path through the accumulated trash to where her body lay. She had a heart attack several days before, it was hot, the house had no air conditioning...not one of the better calls I've been on. :( There are an amazing amount of really mentally ill people out there.

Matt, how did the races go? I'm sure glad I don't have to keep those black fire trucks waxed! It sounds like they committed an amazing amount of manpower and resources to track down a moose. did they ever catch the thing?

Karl, I remember you saying it was going to take a while to clean out your parent's house. I didn't realize it has already been 18 months. I guess they do win the packrat award for today. It would be kind of nice if all of us had a few nice, uneventful weeks, wouldn't it?

David, you have lots of dope growers up there in the foothills. California has a task force called ASaLT that concentrates on finding pot plantations in the foothills and in coastal counties. The two planes you described are both from that task force. The Cessna is actually owned by the CHP but has the markings removed for the fall harvest season. The black Hughes 500 is from the DEA. We used to work with these guys all the time. There must have been something that looks too green around your place that attracted their attention.

Ken, I hope Vicky is doing better but it will be a while before you're not the main cook and bottle washer. :) Losing the income hurts but you can survive that. The main thing is you still have a wife, even if she's malfunctioning right now. I really hated the winters up north and used to get what's now called Seasonal Affective Disorder. It's a real from of depression caused by not enough light and too many hours cooped up in the house. We had two days of sunshine and now it's raining again. It looks like it'll rain or be be cloudy all of next week. All the natives say they've never seen a winter this cold and gloomy. Figures. I think this bead string I got would work for the heavy telephone cable too. It comes in black in sizes up to 2mm and it will sag realistically or be perfectly straight, depending on how much tension you put on the next pole. It's practically a miracle worker for telephone or telegraph wires. I'm really amazed no one I've ever heard of has tried it.

Jeffrey, I told you that wound sucker was a good thing, even if you do have to drag it around. Your wound should be healed in the next 10 days or so. I hope you don't have to go through this again any time soon.

Chris, those black helicopters are just practicing on you. It's always fun to get the locals riled up and wondering what they've done. :D Of course, in your case, you're lucky they don't really know who was that guy yelling "liar" from the back of the Senate that night.

Since this is the day for strange stories, I've got one too. Dianna and I were coming out of a local restaurant the other night. There was a really creepy looking guy in one of those hooded sweatshirts hanging around the sidewalk. He had the hood pulled up so you could barely see his face. He was the type that set my cop instinct to "High". We walk back to the car and I could hear him following us. Our car was parked next to a big SUV where so I couldn't see him for a few seconds. I told Dianna to get in the car and lock the doors. I drew my weapon and held it by the side of my leg. The guy came around the SUV and we were almost face to face. I never raised my weapon but he could see me holding it. He took one look, turned around, and took off at dead run without saying a word. I don't know what his real intentions were but I suspect, at the very least, my wallet would have left with him if I hadn't been armed. This is another one of those case that won't ever make the paper but one where an armed citizen prevented what could have been a violent crime without ever firing a shot.

As I said, it's been raining here again...all day. It's also been windy but at least the temperatures have stayed in the 60's, a lot better than the 30's we had last week. Still, I'm getting sick of the rain and clouds and it looks like we're in for a prolonged bout of it again since we now have a nice zonal flow set up. This means all the storms that will be hammering California will be making it here five days later. No sign of anything severe on the horizon, though, so that's a blessing.

Compared to what the people in Haiti are going through, it's just another day in paradise here. I can't imagine how that situation is going to be bought under control without a lot of US soldiers on the ground. Haiti is lawless on a good day, and things are going to get much worse there without enough force on hand to keep things down to a dull roar. It was tough enough doing rescue work during the San Francisco earthquake but at least we had a functioning government and infrastructure. I've got to give a lot of credit to our USAR teams that are risking their lives to go down there. The rescue work is dangerous enough with worrying about robbed and shot. This is going to be 10 time worse than New Orleans and I hope Obama learned from that and we get a lot of troops there quick.

Jim,
Thanks for the info, it always good to know who's doing the flying, I often wondered. The only thing according to FAA regulations they shouldn't be any lower than 750' bare minimum and I as I remember from what Major Benoy told me it may well be 1000' over populated areas even here in the country and he had well over 3000 hours of flight time logged as well as being a Ham too in hius later years.

Now what's really interesting is that there is nothing around her other than all the natural bushes, field grass, wild flowers and oak trees and a few Bull Pines, especially on my place although I don't too often get up on top of the hill in the back but, it's fenced in too with barbed wire. Now when I have I never noticed anything that looked too out of the ordinary to me.

Although one time, a long time prior to all this stuff happening I did go up there and noticed a bunch of ground disturbed like a dog had been digging after a gofer but it was in a very irregular fashion so I just figured some animal was chasing/digging after maybe a gofer or ground squrrel or something?

So I have no idea what in the world the guys in the Black chopper were doing hovering directly over the house and I mean directly over the peak of the roof about about 25 feet higher, that's totally uncalled for especially being that the home has been here for over 40 years now, lets see, I turned 21 while up here building a tool shed with dad and we moved up here about a year later, and I'm 64 now so then I've been in the area for 43 years then.

Anyway that stuff is pretty bizare to say the least.

Oh, I did just think of something if they are using anytype of thermal locating device there is a fairly big Poison Oak bush to the West of the house but that's at least 175' away and 200 at least from where they were hovering. It does get pretty green as it leafs out but that's all I can think of. The Oaks do also get beautifully green too when they leaf out but there are thousands of oak trees in this area. I'll bet I have at least 250 on my place alone.

Ok, so the Ravens got beat. At least we made it past the end of the season. unlike some other teams ;)

Typically, I root for the Ravens, and anyone who is playing against Pittsburg. So I guess my season is over:(

On the bright side, Daytona is only a month away!!!!!:D:D:D
