Good Morning all,
It's too early to tell what the day is going to be like.

Jim, Good to have you back, the Flu can be nasty stuff and flying always enhances it too! Darn stuff really wants to hang on too, so don't get to rambunctious too soon as it will knock you right down again.

Well i guess ill start things off here this morning. Not a whole lot going on here, maybe the mall this afternoon but i really just dont feel like going, oh well. Have a nice one guys.

Good morning. It's 36 and cloudy. The high will be in the mid 60's and it will be partly cloudy.

Finally got my new rust colored paints yesterday. As previously stated they are satin latex in the colors of 'rusty rail', 'rusted earth' and 'rustica'. They are each a slightly different shade so I'll be able to more easily create different levels of rust from surface to severely pitted. They're in 7 ounce sample cans at $2.94 a can, substantially cheaper than 7 ounces of a similarly colored acrylic would be. While latex may not be the best thing to use it serves my purpose. It cleans up with water, can be thinned with water and works well with my external mix airbrush though I usually use it with a small brush. It can also be thinned to be used a wash and if need be I can get a lot of it in less than 30 minutes although 7 ounces will last a long time. Nothing special on the schedule today unless something pops up, so I'll likely be doing some weathering work on some freight cars and maybe a locomotive or two.

Jeffery- It is good to see you making plans for modelimng rather than having to spend time going to see doctors. Try not to aggravate your feet by doing too much all at once.

Well, I feel all rested and awake this morning. Good thing, as I have a kiazan event for most of today. "Kiazan" is a Japanese word for a brain storming and planning session to develope new ideas and products.
Yes, Chris, I know that my brain is rarely used and I need to be careful not to strain myself!

Meanwhile, TGIF and have a good day!!

Good morning folks

It was 36 F this morning as I hit the surprisingly icy roads this morning. Our high will be 41 F.

We had temperatures near 40 F yesterday and as a result we had quite a bit of melting. Overnight the temperatures were in the 20’s and things froze. It made for a wild commute this morning. Lots of spin outs on ramps and overpasses.

I didn’t make it to the forums yesterday. It was just one of those days. I got a late start and managed to sleep through the alarm. As a result the kids got up late for school and I had to take them so that would make it on time. That put me in the office late. It was then one crisis after another all day. I got home to another set of crisis.

My daughter made it to volleyball practice. Next weekend she has her first tournament at Albright College in Reading, PA.

This is shopping weekend. I am not sure what else will get done.

I hope everybody has a good day.

The early morning crowd has thinned out I see. Morning all. Currently 56 with a high of 62 today. Tomorrow is supposed to start 3 days of rain. I guess I won't have the guy wash my car today. The other car is in the shop to have an oil leak repaired. I'm guess it's the oil pan gasket ($350). I'm hoping it's something less. I'm dreading it's something more. With the rain a comin' it's looking like there's a good chance NASCAR will be washed out Sunday.

Mornin'

I'm usually quite happy on Fridays, but today is an exception because I'll be doing my taxes on Saturday. Since 2009 was Vicky's first complete year of working full-time, our combined income will be over the threshold where we are no longer entitled to certain claim deductions that we've taken for granted the past 15 years. That, and the fact that my son turned 17 so I can no longer get a Child Tax Credit for him. So now I'm worried that we'll be hit with a massive tax liability:eek:. I feel just like someone who's facing a risky surgery.

CUL

Hello--:)

Well, I'm off and doing my evening classes and the weekend seminar things so I'll be on at the usually unusual times for these things.:rolleyes::cool::cool:

My MRR'ing has been a little curtailed by a lot of runnin' 'roun' doin' stuff--also known as honey do and honey buy and as such I'll be attempting attempts that I've been attempting to attempt.....or some such.:eek::cool::cool:

Have a good one----:D:D

Just a random drive buy Posting...........62* here in Lovely Spring Hill,Floriduh. Not much going on very quiet......too quiet. If I stop talking to myself I'm sure I would be very lonely!:(

Ken I'd sooner face the axeman than the tax man at the present time, good luck to ya.

Just ordered Chicket tikka jalfrezi, lamb tikka massala, peshwari nan, stuffed mushrooms, popadums and chutney for my tea :)

I had to look-up the recipes for this stuff. Man, it sounds great! (for a minute, I thought you were writing in a foreign language.:D)

Chris: Don't worry about the black vans that returned to your neighborhood..... Just some of my old friends ;):D.

Whoooo Chris the MIB are gonna getcha,,,,,,

AND it's NOT the dead hen from next door i had for tea, just in case you suspected foul play

I feel like a stranger here. Been a while.

I've been contracted to do 3 layouts. I really didn't want to do them, but thought I was acting as an adviser. Well, the two historical societies and the library want layouts. Two are going to be rather large while the other is a static display. The money they flashed in front of me was irresistible. The first offers were a bit of a disappointment. But they came back and floored me. I get a good chunk even for the static layout. And I get to hire helpers. Good thing.

One layout is going to be O-gauge. Wunnerful. I tried to talk them into HO but, the guy had his mind set. Wait until he sees the price of some of the trains. He may see the light and change his mind.

We made a trip to the "Northern District", my house in Michigan, to see my layout there. I think they were overwhelmed a little. Even though the repairs aren't complete, it still looks pretty good. All that is left to do with it is replace a few buildings that look like they have gone through a tornado and are not repairable.

So, my whole week has been pretty much occupied with those deals.

I am in deep yearning for a train show near Fort Wayne in a couple of weeks, March 5-6, I believe. Usually a pretty nice, though smaller show. Lots of small vendors and usually good prices. I'm needing gons and flat cars in the worst way. And some ice reefers. Hard to believe that with all of the stock I have I would need anything. But, I need to buy a few things for the projects too.

Bob

Bob- I'm so glad you are going to be doing something constructive for awhile! ( Sorry, that was a terrible pun.)
But congrats on having THREE layouts to build.
What kind of time line will you have?
Can you work on more than one at a time?

I think being able to cut and build the bench work at one time would be more efficient and cost effective. Being able to do the layouts in phases together would be easier than one at a time.

Let us know how you progress. Perhaps we can help with suggestions and harassment.:)

I gotta go now, my head hurts. They made me come up with two original thoughts during the kiazan today. I hope they don't expect that type of performance every week!

Y'all have a good weekend.

Afternoon, everyone.

Thanks for the welcome back. Chris, I'm not sure about the 21 fist salute but I'll take it as a compliment...and duck. :)

Ken, sorry, I had a little relapse after we talked. Seems my gut wasn't quite through with me yet. I feel "almost" normal today, or at least as normal as a 64 year old can feel. I'm about to start my taxes too. I'm hoping my stock market losses will offset a slight rise in income. Still, I'd rather pay the IRS than have them keep my money for a year, interest free.

Rybcon, you must have started visiting Flo's in my absence. Following our time-honored tradition, I've transfered all of the exorbitant charges run up by Chris, Rex, and Barry to your tab, since the new guy has to pay. :) What part of SoCal do you live in? I lived in the Pomona/Diamond Bar area for 10 years.

Matt, thanks for your welcome back as well. I first went to DC when I was just about your age. It's truly an amazing place. The Smithsonian alone can keep you busy for weeks. Whatever you do, don't miss seeing the Lincoln Monument at night, when it's all lit up. I can still clearly picture that first view of the Monument in mind. It will send chills up and down your spine.

Jeffrey, glad to hear the wound sucker did its job and you're now at least upright, even if you have to drag around that boot. I use latex/acrylic paints all the time and like them better than enamels for most jobs, especially airbrushing.

Tom, you have way too many crisis's. You need to call in sick for a week or so. :D

David, thank you, I will be trying to take it easy. All this constantly changing weather didn't help things, I'm sure. The arthritis in my neck really flared up in Cleveland. I'm finding cold weather is really starting to affect me adversely.

Bob, building three layouts? That should keep you busy, and in train money, for a good bit. I haven't done anything in O scale since my Lionel days but I've always had the desire for an O scale layout, just not the time, money, or space. Sounds like a fun job ahead.

Mikey, I guess that kiazzan thing must an outgrowth of the black belt fad. I sure am glad I retired just as that weirdness was getting started. I often thought we could do with less thinking and more doing but no one ever asked for my opinion. Since I was an old dinosaur anyway, it was just assumed I couldn't have any original ideas.

Steve, I haven't been able to get through all the threads yet. Are you in NZ on vacation or in the UK? Neat pictures of that lava tube. That Indian food sure sounds good.

Rex, how much snow did you get? It was pretty impressive down here. We had a couple of hours of rain first but once the snow started, it continued all day. Dianna said everything here was closed. I wish she would have called and told me about the airport before I got on that plane though. Snow three years in a row breaks the record for the Montgomery area. Believe it or not, we have a slight chance for a little more Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Geez, this is not what I was expecting when I decided to stay in Alabama.

Just got back from the hospital. Dianna had a good bout of acid reflux and her doc wanted to do another upper endoscopy on her. Everything looks fine, just more acid production than normal. He doubled her PPI, which is what I told her to do when she started having the pain. This is a great example of defensive medicine. Rather than ordering a $2,000 procedure, he could have just upped her meds for a few weeks and see if that solved the problem. This is exactly why our health insurance premiums are so high.

Had another gift waiting for me when I got home - jury duty on March 1. I really wouldn't mind jury duty but there's zero chance I'll ever get picked by the defense to sit on a jury. I called and told them I was a retired peace officer and they said I still had to come down and sit around for eight hours. They started this same crap just before I left California. I used to be able to send them a copy of my ID and get excused but now they want everyone to suffer together. I did tell them I'm deaf in one ear so they'd better have a hearing device for me. Oh, well, maybe I'll take a stack of MR's I've been meaning to read with me. That, plus being a retired cop, should keep me off of any jury. :D

Chirp.....Chirp.....Chirp....Chirp, what ever the sounds chrickets make :D, man its dead in here.

Not much going on here, tommorow i think im going to be selling some guns, im semi-attached to the Springfield, but the 12 gauge can go. If i sell both guns i should have somewheres between $1000-$1200... :(

I dont know, i like the idea of having that money, and honestly, i plan to put the majority of it in savings for my first truck. Im looking for something that can tow at least 6500lbs, and id prefer double cab, which is going to max out my price point at the cheapest., Hey ya gotta ride big or ride it home :D
