Yep, Notch, the faces here are familiar. Seems as though someone throwing monkey dung keeps driving the newbs off. All in all, the folks that frequent here are OK, but don't expect much. You'll be sure to be satisfied and always surprised at some of the goings on here at Flo's.

Just duck when the monkey dung starts flying and you'll be fine.

Welcome Notch: What is said there pretty much describes us--we's be friendly here---:D:D

Just got home from a late class again---get to go into a bunch of seminar things around 8am--not get out and home until about ---oh---10pm-ish:eek:

Have a good one

Evening, everyone.

Haven't had much time to stop by for coffee. Let's see, the wife wanted a new treadmill so we sold the one we had to a woman in a two door Chevy Cavalier. Ended up disassebmling the whole thing ti the puring rain so we could jam it in her car. I haqve no idea if it will ever work again. Then had to go to Sears to pick up the EZ assembly new one. three hours later and two calls to Sears and I finally had it working. The instructions were directly converted from Chinese by a person not an native English speaker. :)

Had to change the downspoout and add one of those roll-up attachments so it unrols when it rains and directs water away from the foundation. I also had to dig a diversion ditch so the water would get further away from the deck before it made the turn downhill. The entire underside of my deck is pure sand, probaboly leftover from when they were stockpiling sand for the brick mortar. With all the rain we've been having lately, the drainage has formed a nice little Grand Canyon and is starting to wash out all the footings. Never had a problem in the last three years because it never rained. I have no idea how the previous owner could have let this go on for seven years.

Sounds like a lot of you could have stayed in bed for a day or two. Bob, it always seems that one thing causes at least one other thing to break.

Prhillip, nice pictures of the bike. The full face helmet is a good idea. :D

Sandy, she sure is a pretty dog. My wife would go nuts if it wandered up to out house as a stray. She loves anything blonde. We'd have big fight with four cats already on the roster.

Barry, you've done a good job of finally not stealing our rain. It won't stop now. You can turn off the spigot for a while. Those are some great pictures you're posting. I'm saving them in a directory for inspiration photos.

I did get a chance to do few detail things to the layout. One of the things I've been wanting is Bott's Dots. those raised yellow bumps in the center of the highway. I couldn't figure out anything that was the right shap and close to scale until I happened to be looking at the pins in the wife's sewing box. Eureka! Just snip off part of the bottom, drill a small hole, paint them yellow, and they are very presentable Botts' Dots. After looking at some of Barry's pictures, I also realized the sidewalks in the residential area were too clean. They need grass growing in the cracks. A little of Aleen's Sticky Glue painted in the cracks and sprinkled with WS fine grass looks good if you give it an hour to dry and then vacuum up the excess. The only thing I should have done was use an x-acto knife and made some of the cracks crooked. A project for another day.

It's been raining like crazy down here. We've had about six inches in three days, which is the most I've seen in my almost four years here. It's all coming from a closed low over Texas and Arkansas that looks just like tropical storm on radar except it's inland. It hasn't moved in almost a week so it just keeps pumping mositure up from the gulf. It should start moving by Sunday but it looks like another low will dive down from Canada so the rain looks to continue for a while. No flooding problems here yet but another day or two of this and we'll get some river and creek flooding. I'm hoping it's dry for our railroad swap meet up in Pelham tomorow. How's the rain been up at your place, Rex? Looks like you've been getting pounded pretty good.

Luckily, the tropics are quiet because even a weak tropical storm would be more rain than we could handle. There's one disturbance out where Fred formed but it will have the same fate, turn north, stir up some fish, and die.

I'm sure I missed a lot of messages so I hope everyone is doing as well as they can and that not too many things are breaking.

Edit: Forgot to welcome Notch. This a fun place with lots of different personalities (including one that throws monkey dung) and it's always a good place to drop by for some coffee and chat. At some point, you'll get stuck with the bill, though, usually because Chris is broke again.

Good morning.

It's 72 and cloudy. The high will be in the mid 80's and there's a chance of rain.

Finally got the tools cleared off the layout yesterday then almost immediately started in on another DPM structure, specifically Robert's Dry Goods and I have the DPM Front Street Building lined up after that. I'll be busy with doctor's visits this coming week as I have three of them back to back to back. The podiatrist on Monday, the urologist on Tuesday and my primary care provider on Wednesday. The visit to the podiatrist will be to get the stitches removed from my foot, the visit to the urologist will be for a general examination of the state of my prostate and the visit to the PCP will be for a general physical., so that's three days shot as far as getting anything constructive done. You know how doctor's appointments are. Just like the military. Hurry up and wait.

I always called them Drunk Bumps, because the intoxicated drivers always seem to ride them...

...........I hope everyone's football team wins... even the one Rex favors!;)
Uh....uh.....yeah, I hope your teams wins also. (gads that was hard to say:D) I believe we will play water polo instead of football:eek:.

Jim: What swap meet in Pelham???

Hi there again, Flo.

coffee please......with a kicker.....thanks.

it's chilly in the notch this morning, Flo......bout the mid 40s around sun up.....
.....yup, the hills in Vermont sure start getting pretty this time of year....
....but you know that means winter's on the way.....no problem tho Flo, it'll give me more time to work on my layout.

no, it's nothing to speak of yet.....I've been working on it for a year, and all I've got done is a short section of roadbed.....N scale, Flo.....I'll likely set it in the 1970s, rural New England.....which isn't too far off from today.......not much has changed here since then......
I've got a few Omya hoppers and tankers ready for the line.....once I get to building the mine and plant they have in Florence.

yup Flo, i've got a head full of ideas. Now that I'm retired I thought I'd build a layout like my cousin had when we were kids.....I sure do miss Roy.

Flo, I met a few guys here yesterday.
UP2CSX
blownoutcylinder
stationmaster
jeffrey-wimberl
CSX_road_slug

Say hey to them for me, when you see them. It'll take me awhile to get to know the regulars, but in time it'll come together.......thanks for the coffee, Flo........

.....see ya later.......

Hey guy's got done mowing a few yards now I can rest some:) before the wife and kid comes back to take me away from the calm............ I got tons of paper work on the point system used to lay me off and shown to a few folks and yet any one can't find why I was layed off. I got a hold of a law office that deals with employment issues and now I wait to see if I can get an appointment to show them the paper work to see if what's going on is fair and balanced?:( Unemployment in florida has hit 1 million and growing and the state's unemployment $$ is dang near empty now's Govener Crist has to as Obama for more money to cover unemployment! Good God this is getting worst! O well.........

Hey rex I wouldn't stay in the water to long, you don't need any more wrinkles! heheheheheheheheheheheheheh..........

As usual Jim has reminded me!:) Attenition, the new guy "Notch" has got the tab for the next couple of days! and Yes, as usual.....I'm broke and soon to be out of work........If you see someone living under your layout it might be me! or standing on the street corner with my card board sign..........That might be me also:o Any one up fer a DMSF!?!?!?:D Might lift my spirits some:o

Evening all from Ye Olde London Towne. I'm back from my Canadian adventure. All went well and we managed to surprise the stuffing out of the rest of the family. Sadly a week isn't enough to do everything and see everyone we wanted to.

I've discovered just how much I hate flying and think airlines need to adopt a no children policy on long haul flights. Its not fair on small kids to be stuffed into a tin can for 9 1/2 hours, and its not fair to the other 300+ people on the plane to have to endure 9 1/2 hours of screaming munchkin. If only the overhead compartments were sound proof.:mad:

Modelling wise a good friend of mine presented me with 3 kits to enjoy. The first is a pair of wooden Juneco caboose, err cabeese. One CN and one CP. The other is what I've been told is very rare, a NorthEastern Models combine caboose. Guess I'm going to have to finally try building a wood kit after 40 years of plastic and metal. Yikes!!

Managed a day in Montana but with my usual luck nothing was running over Marias Pass due to MoW work. I did manage to photograph the other buildings and the framed set of building drawings of the Izaak Walton Hotel photographed. That's one more piece of the puzzle for the layout solved.

Notch: welcome to the nut house. Looking forward to reading your modelling aventures. Since Chris says you are buying this week, I'll have the 4 shot skinny latte please.

Chris: Haven't managed to dig all the way through the past 10 days or so, what's the word on the job situation?

All: take care of yourselves and I'll try to catch up here once the jet lag and cold wear off.

Those drunk bumps saved my arse once driving in a whiteout on US-2 near Bonner's Ferry ID. I just slowed down and kept one tyre (tire in US speak) rumbling along the bumps through a long construction zone.

Andrew...that was worth a huge chuckle. Great mental image!! :D

Notch...welcome to the coffee shop. I don't do model trains, but I used to do marketing for a MR magazine, so the guys let me hang around :)

It's a warm one here in Colorado today. In the 80's, but Monday it's only supposed to get to 58. Fall is here! Woohoo!

Have a great Saturday!

Sandy

Only thing left on the DPM Robert's Dry Goods kit (#10200) is to fit the roof. I'm also putting together a Plastruct water tank, kit #K-9. It's one of those that you have to cut most of the parts to size. Maybe tomorrow I'll get started on the DPM Front Street Building kit (#120). I'm also getting ready for my usual Saturday night out.

Andrew, I'm still trying to under stand it myself! HR dept. has no clue, The director of parks has no Clue, and the Company that developed the Matrix has no clue! Basicly I lost 9.74 years of my career to a traffic accident I had in 2006 and it put me back to 3.26 years of service. and yet even with 3.26 years of service left I still get beat out by at least 8 people with less than 2 years of service! heck there is one guy with only 3 months in and he beats me and another with only 7 months too!?!?!?!?! I'm trying to fight it but, it might not work!?!?!?!? I'll keep everyone posted on it the whole thing is one big joke!!!!

Hiya Gang!
Flo, Diet Coke please, and a T-Bone with a baked potato. You can give my salad to Chris, he's gonna need some roughage to go with that Gubmint cheese!
Just got back from the Arcadia Steam Show,,,,,lotsa old tractors and yes, the Deere contingent was out in force again, even though this years featured makes were Ford & Massey Harris. About 6 or 7 steam traction engines were there, along with the usual stationary engines and flea market vendors. No trains though, except some guy selling Tyco & Life Like stuff for lots more than it is worth.
Andrew I always thought screaming todlers was the reason why they served alcohol on planes. Next time, send a drink over to they little tyke!:D
Chris, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooDMSF!!!!
Hiya Notch We're basicly harmless here, pull up a chair and relax (just make sure your not next to Chris,,,,,,,,he still smells like a DMSF:eek:)
Jeffrey All them DR appointments, can you get a frequent flier type program??
Rex Careful playing water polo.......I would hate to hear that your horse drown!

and finally.............. dumb joke of the day (and it's clean too!)

What is the difference between the bird flu and the swine flu???

For the bird flu, you need tweetment,,,for the swine flu, you need oikment!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

L8ter!

Newbie...Sort of...

Just joined here...Looks like a nice place to spend some time. I see some old faces from other corners of the MRR'ing world. Hope I can add my grain of rice to what seems to be a real Chinese dinner....:D

Wow another new guy! Well Steam Freak surrender your CC, you and Notch got breakfast, lunch, and dinnerfor the next couple of days.............Dang we're going to get fat with all this new cash floating around! Hey who got the glass of water for Notchs and Steam freaks wallet fires?

Hey Karl, Here's mud in yer eye! SPLAT! Hehehehehehehehehehehehe.............:D:p

Did a little research on the Plastruct water tank kit I'm putting together. The # on the box is kit #K-9. Walther's carries it as #570-1009 and sell it for $29.95. Mine is marked for $14.95 so I guess it was sold quite a while back.
