Karl ---4 were Olivers---
Ahh yes Oliver. Yet another manufacturer that has disappeared into the dust churned up by Deere! They were not bad tractors, we had 2 on the family farm when I was growing up, but honestly, I think my sisters Ford Pinto had more pulling power. Also they both were a pain to start cold. You just knew the temps were below freezing if they wouldn't start without a shot of ether! Even the diesel Deeres didnt need that! Eventually one died from a massive engine hemmorage, the other spent its last days semi-permanently hooked to the manure spreader:eek:.

BOC, want a knw expensie hobby? Get that McCormick-Deering unit in the last pic, paint it up all pretty and put a Chrysler Hemi in it and go tractor pullin!! :D

Terry............ YOU FOOL!:mad: That kinda Information can be sold at a hefty cost!;);) In these tring times Good information is the only bartering chip we have left to sell!:):):):D
Who says the PM's didn't contain demands for the phone number in exchange for large stacks of small unmarked bills?;)

BTW, what is a "tring?"

Howdy, guys.

Had a few projects that have kept me out of the coffee shop this weekend. The first was a small timber culvert where the tracks have been crossing a creek in thin air for three years. :) Not very hard to do do but just fiddly to get it all right. I also completed the trackside drainage and now have a pipe draining the polluted water into the creek.

The other was a used Athearn MP-15 I bought. I was told it had an Digitrax decoder but, after screwing up the engine entering Digitrax CV's I finally put it on the programming track and the read back showed it was an NCE. Probably should have done that first. Of course, I had no idea what model NCE so off with the body. It's fiendish mix of screws and tabs with no apparent pattern. Finally got the body off after pulling off the handrails since they weren't going to survive intact anyway. It's an D13SRJ. Downloaded the manual and at least I was able to reset the engine. The soundcard is one I've never seen before. It only has SND45 as identification and a web search revealed nothing. It's just a small, square plastic circuit board. Since it was an Athearn, I thought it was probably some kind of MRC sound decoder. I found one on the MRC site that kind of looked like it, particuarly a rubber cover over a pot to manually adjust volume if you're using DC. It's not the right one but the MRC CV's for sound seem to work. Anyone else ever seen one like this?

Next, it was getting it back together. Everything was just laying in the shell with no tape around the decoders and nothing to gather all the wires. The speaker is up in the cab, which is about the only place for it since it's a pretty big 8 ohm speaker. I taped everything up, gathered wires into bundles and taped those, and then put it back together. Of course, no matter how I did it, the body didn't quite fit. I had move things around four times until I could find a configuration that required only a small dab of CA on one corner of the cab to make it right. It finally was able to snap over all the tabs and I was able to screw the couplers and fuel tank back in place. Then I had to reattach all the hand rails and various other small details that came off with all the handling. This was about 4 hours labor for what should have taken 15 minutes if I had all the information I needed to begin with. I'm assuming that sound card must be MRC. It has 16 horns and 14 sound like sheep bleating. :D If anyone has the right CV's for the NCE decoder for slower acceleration and deceleration, I'd sure appreciate, since my efforts aren't working too well. The engine runs pretty well but it would be better if I could get it be a little smoother.

Other than that, things have been fine. Bama won although, without Mark Ingram, it might have been a different game. The penalties absolutely killed Bama and Saban is going to have to tighten up on team discipline if that's going to change.

The Buckeyes were embarassing. They were 3 touchdown favorites and barely managed to pull off a four point win against Navy. Ken, Navy really played their hearts out on this one while Ohio looked like they were playing a scrimmage game. If the Buckeyes don't decide they are really in the regular season, they are going to be steamrollered by USC next week.

Phillip, funny post about English but it illustrates why English is such a hard language to learn.

Terry, how come you keep getting all these deals and I'm lucky to get a bag of ground foam at Hobby Lobby for 10% off?

I know I missed all the tractor posts but all I know about those things is that they are different colors and some cost more than others. :)

Hope everyone else is doing as well as they can.

Good Morning

Got a small meeting to go to this morning--then I'll be going to a certain LHS to pick up a pile of cylindrical hoppers for the RR. My hours for work are still kind of low---until October we'll be around 20-30 hr/wk here-----judging from what I heard yesterday we will be taking over some contracts from someone who is closing down/getting bought out ---

Anyhoooo---

Have a good one ppl!!:D:D:D

Good morning folks

It is 65 F and threatening rain. High will be 73 F.

I am still recovering from the shock of the radiator replacement on the van. Saturday we did the grocery shopping. Sunday we did some running to Home Depot to pick-up supplies for our next project; repainting the front inside door. Yesterday we went to Sahara’s Sam which is indoor water park in West Berlin, NJ.

I did not get any modeling in this weekend.

The kids start back to school today. Since it is my son’s first day of middle school we are going to drop him off. I will be heading into work afterwards.

I hope everybody has a good day.

On the Athearn MP15 I got, CV3, 4 and 5 are the ones to mess with. I think I used 40 for CV 3 and 4 (accel/decel). and 70 for CV5 (top speed). It makes it act more like a switcher. If I was going to take it "on the road", I'd probably use 100 or120 for CV5.
And yes, I got a "deal" on it...:o

Good morning.

Sure feels like a Monday, even if it's not. At least we're a day closer to Friday.

I spent most of the weekend upgrading a pair of Athearn bluebox 62ft tank cars. I'd been planning to snap some pix and post them in WPF, but I discovered that the access ladders [after the mod] are ~1/4" too short. Dang - if only I had some leftover Athearn cabeese lying around that I could cannibalize..! But no such luck, most likely I'll wind up spending $8 to buy a set of brass ladder segments. That's more than the combined total I originally paid for these two tankers 21 years ago!

Hope Jeff's foot surgery goes OK today.

So, this last weekend was NOT what I'd planned originally!

Friday I rode the bike to work. It was a little nippy in the morning, but certainly managable. Lunch was nice, riding about half the time in the sunshine. The trip home......thats what I was waiting for! A beautiful ride through the Indiana countryside, with no timeframes, no cell phones.

And then it started!

Upon arriving home I was informed by the wife that I was to get in the van and take her about 40 miles away to pick up a free desk for our library. "It would help me with homeschooling", she said. OK, whatever.....I know what this REALLY means!

For you unmarried or newly married types, let me translate: "I need you to go heave this huge heavy desk into our van, haul it home, take it out of the van and into the house, reassemble it, rearrange the entire library including the bookshelves loaded with books (read: REALLY HEAVY!!!!), and redo the computer area paying special attention to redo all of the wiring that has over the years turned into the largest fire hazard in Indiana history." (I love her, don't get me wrong......I've just learned to read between the lines over the years, thats all.)

So there's my 3 day weekend, completely ruined, right? WRONG!

That was just the tip of the iceburg!

We (I) picked up the desk, then on the way back we're doing about 70mph down the hiway when the tie rod end on the passenger side decides that this is a good time to seperate into two parts. As the steering wheel tries to rip out of my hands, I glance around and notice that EVERYONE in this late rush hour traffic is moving quickly away from me! I can't help but think, "This is BAD!" I cross three lanes of now completely deserted hiway and come to rest in the break down lane to the left of the high speed lane. That was a nice cheap thrill! (Moral of the story........Bikes don't have tie rod ends, so ride a bike all the time and forget about it!)

Forty five minutes later, the flat bed arrives and $180 later my van sits in front of my house again. A $25 part from Autozone the next morning and all day wrestling the mangled super rusted part off of the vehicle, and by evening I'm driving again. (Some "free" desk, huh?)

I pulled a muscle fighting the wheel Friday night, then pulled a couple more Saturday trying to get the metal parts that had fused themselves together with rust to seperate, and I spent Sunday in bed recouping. Man I'm getting old!

So, I wake up Monday morning to "Lets redo the library today!" Yeah, remember that? Thats what started this whole mess in the first place!

But you know, I have a saying.........

Happy Wife, Happy Life!

Today, my wife is happy!

(Now if you don't mind, i'm going to go take some more pain relievers!)

Morning, everyone.

Phil, I see you've learned the lessons of marriage well. That must have been even more scary having the tie rod blow with a desk in back. I know how hard it can be to get some of those rusted tie rod ends off if you've got it on a lift and can beat on it so it must have been even worse for you. You are a lot more cooperative than me. Rearranging the library after all that would have had to wait a few days.

Ken, it seems like every project of mine lately ends up a part or two short. That MP-15 I was working on has lost an all weather windwow somewhere. Since the prototype has them, I guess I have to find somewhere to dig up an all weather window. :( Jeffrey, I'm praying that all goes OK with your foot surgery today and this will halp you feel and walk a little better.

Terry, thanks for the advice. The NCE aslo has these two "kick start settings" that you're supposed to used after the normal low, mid, and high setting to control the acceleration. So far, it seems like jack rabbit starts or ones I crank the throttle for a minute before anything happens. I sure would like to find out exactly what model of sound card I have. I've never seen one that small or weird looking. Like I said, I can tell by the sound quality it'a an MRC but I don't think it's the standard Athearn MRC since it's a sound only card separate from the NCE decoder.

Tom, it may not do much for you but I'll bet your wife is happy the kids are back in school. :)

BOC, at least your place is taking over the contracts of weaker companies instead of the other way round. You should have pently of time to weather that pile of cylindrical hoppers.

Rex, we've got a bunch of Sonics down here too. I think there are more of them in the South, probably because of things like fried onion rings and foot long chili-cheese dogs. :) I've eaten there a couple of times but making it a habit would get me up to 200 lbs in no time.

Had a couple of inches of rain over the weekend and my grass is green again. It's still warm but not overly humid so this is a pretty nice time of the year in Alabama. Tropical Strom Fred has formed in the far east Atlantic. He will become a category one hurricane by tomorrow and then head off north, disturbing nothing but fish and dying of the hurricane swine flu. We are scheduled to take a cruise out of San Juan on November 1 so I figure all the hurricanes are waiting until then to start heading towards the Caribbean. :D

Well, the operation is over with, my foot is three times bigger than it was (bandages) and I'm feeling really good right now due to the fact the anesthetic hasn't completely worn off yet. Had to go by the pharmacy to get some hydrocodone (lortab) to take in case I have any pain. I don't look at getting much done today.

Jeffery, glad to hear the surgery is over and you're out of the hospital. I suspect you'll have a fair amount of swelling and inflammation so gobble those loratabs before you start to get in severe pain. It's hard for the narcotics to catch up once you have really bad pain. I don't now what your doctor told you but ibuprofen 400 mg every 4-6 hours wouldn't be a bad idea either since it will help with the inflammation.

Jeffrey...Happy healing! :)

Same from us!!

I've got a little purr motor of a 'Spring' all curled up here with me so I'm doing the two finger hunt and peck---:)

I ended up with 20 hoppers---all for $20:D:D and another H16-44---like I need another one---for $40:D:D So I'll be doing a bunch of 'weathering'---well, considering that the build dates are within a 5 year period of my RR maybe a light dusting shall we say:p:p

Our meeting was a quiet one---3 people came up sick so there wasn't the usual issues showing up.

If and when this happens again, save yourself a lot of misery and simply buy both inner and outer tie rod ends, and the adjusting sleeve that connects the two, and put them on as an assembly. This is the voice of experience talking again...:(

Or to quote that famous modern redneck sage, Mister Foxworthy,
" If She ain't happy, nooooooobodys happy" and " If She ain't happy long enough, you'll be unhappy, with half your stuff!!!!!" LOL!
