Phil, you are now an unofficial official member of the Official NMRA Old Fart Society. Or is that the other way around?.... I can't remember which word goes first....official or unofficial? Jim, need some help here.

The flexeril will do wonders. I don't know that you would need the pain killers, but they sure do help. I've got some here that when I take them, I need to be somewhere soft within 35-45 minutes. I'm goin' down.

Well, so far, it's been a day as planned. A "Do Nuthin' Day". I love it when a plan comes together.

Bob

Karl, I don't know what the Official NMRA old fart age is because all the old farts are still fighting about it. :D I'd say you have a few years to get ready. Maybe we can say it's when you have a colonoscopy and cystoscopy in the same year.
:D

 I think I'll pass on the initiation rights Jim!

Rex Go ahead and submit me as a JR Member. As long as there are no "invasive qualifiers" as Jim suggested.

Phil Scary stuff. Glad you landed that bird before things got ugly!Remember, when you change a tie rod, it's a good idea to get the toe reset on the alignment. Otherwise your tire life may suffer!

On the homefront I was exorcising the demons from the garage today. The cub cadet that mowed a funky pattern, I found a stuck spring loaded idler on the deck. A little penatrating oil and rocking it from side to side has restored its tension and fixed the issue. The little Deere started stalling, drained the fuel tan to find a handfull of pine needles blocking the feed tube. My fault I guess. Its my trimming mower and I lost the cap, then ran it anyway til I got a new cap. Finally the Big Deere is back in action. Repaired radiator, new temp guage (the old one was stuck on hot) and a tune up. Mowed for an hour today with it and temp never went over 145.:D The wife's happy (She likes the Cub, God knows why:rolleyes:) I'm happy (lawn got cut in record time, just under 2 hours) and the whole Hee Haw gang in the garage is up and running properly for the 1st time in a few weeks. Tomorrow, I can actually play inside if I want!!! Yahoo!!!:D

I should have mowed my lawns today but I went over and worked on the deck. Got all of the long pcs. of skirting on and the band board completed except for the top step of the stairs. I should have the deck completed by the end of the week and they already have me two more jobs lined up. These guys are keeping me in work I just hope they don't wear this old man out. The lawn will be here tomorrow if'n it don't rain. If it rains then maybe I can get started on the daughters and my wife's utility room cabinets. I have had the material for 2 months now but was not in the mood to build em. Glendia says that NOW I am in the mood LOL LOL LOL.

Phil YIKES!!!:eek::eek: That would be scary!! --- I had a tire blow on the 401 here and that be scary enough!

-----------------------------------------------

We went all over the place today to get these after all was said and done

The loader at the Sifto salt mine at Goderich harbour is an interesting looking thing ain't it? That is the Algoma Central's Agawa Canyon at port. It's own loader ended up swung out over the harbour. Under that porch-like affair hides a trackmobile---

Got the sister's grass cut today and it poured down rain tonight. We had quite a voilent string of thunderstorms go storms. My sister and I were with my niece and husband at a Mexican restaurant. We were out on a covered patio watching the storm and none of us could have cared less. It's just normal weather for this area.

Plowing my way through some of these---

From L-R: An old hall at Teeswater--about 45 minutes NE of Goderich. Some of the stairways leading to the loaders for the grain elevators at Goderich Elevators. A couple of interesting structures at the saltmine. The line of elevators at Hensell ON.

Ya know, my father always said that as you get older, three things happen. The first is your memory goes. He forgets the rest...............

As for the alignment that has been suggested by several folks, I agree that it will be needed. For the moment it doesn't pull at all, and it's just about time to get new tires anyways, so I'm going to get 4 new donuts first, then go for that alignment. Thanks much!

Several things happened to me on the train front today, mostly good.
I went to Mader's Trains to pick up the HO SD75I he'd been holding for me, then headed over to another LHS to pick up a decoder for it. As it happened, I didn't get the decoder, because I fell into a deal there. Somebody had just unloaded a collection of old HO stuff (like 1940's-1960's old). For $40, I got a Mantua Pacific, a Mantua Prairie, a brass 0-4-0 Camelback, a Rivarossi Cab Forward, and a Rivarossi K-M diesel hydraulic locomotive. All of them run, all are complete, some better than others, but the only "iffy" one is the brass engine. The tender was made of Zamak, and the frame has begun the dreaded "swell & die" . I also got a selection of HO turnouts, from #4's to #8's, about 26 turnouts, for an additional $10.
After all that, I forgot the decoder the SD75I needs in order to run, and the LHS is closed tomorrow and Monday, so I'll have to get that next weekend.

HELLO HELLO HELLO HELLO HELLO hello --- sheesh:confused:

Is it quiet in here:eek::eek:---

We are seeing more clouds--it is getting ready to be a rainy week so I guess we'll have a mix of sun/cloud today and tomorrow--

I'm going through the pix----have a good one

Terry, sounds like a good haul for 40 bucks! :D Don't give up hope for the lil brass unit. A new frame can be built from brass shapes and soldered together pretty easily. IF you decide that its not your cup of tea, let me know. I might be willing to make an offer you cant refuse!;) (Janice seems to like little dinky engines, why I don't know. But if she thinks it's "cute", I wont hear any flack like "you got another engine?")
This is why I don't have any SD75Is !!! (not "cute" enough!) LOL

I agree with the idea of not giving up with the brass unit:) I've even come across bags of brass bits/pieces at fleamarkets and trainshows as well. I'll buy those up so's I have spare parts as well---:)

As for "cute"---Audrey is always puzzled by "cute"---:):):D

I agree, don't give up on the brass engine. I had one that was part of a "lot" I bought at a train show. It was a OMI Mohawk. I got it home and it didn't run, though the engine "torqued" when I applied power. I lubed it, and still no movement. I put it back in its box and placed it on the "to do" shelf.

About 3 months later, I got it down and placed it on the test tack. Holy smokes!!!! The thing almost took a header of the bench. Took off like it was shot out of a canon!!! Needless to say, it's still on the layout and still running. Must've been gremlins causing the problem, because all I did was give it some oil and a bit of grease.

Morning;

Partly cloudy today.

I went to my LHS yesterday and scored 2 items, a HPPX covered hopper and a FEC ortner, both Walthers items. I am really happy since the LHS had them at a much lower price, $2 off for the FEC and $6 for the HPPX hopper. It's almost a steal since the Huntsman Polypropelyne hopper was fully detailed and for that amount of detail it'd cost a bit more than $13.59. :)

Good morning.

It's 77 and sunny. The high will be in the high 80's and there's a chance of rain.

Got my sister's grass cut yesterday well ahead of an approaching storm front. The rain busted loose in town around 7 pm. The storm split and went to the east and west of our location out here west of town. We didn't get a drop! No progress to report on the Bachmann all-door boxcar, maybe today I'll have a chance to work on it. Had some fun with a container of chlorine this morning. It's a different brand from what we usually get and had a different locking system for the lid. Boy, when they said tamper resistant they weren't kidding! It took me and my father working together to get the darn thing open. It had a tamper evident tab that to be removed (easy enough) then you had to locate an arrow on the side of the container and press down on a dot on the top of the lid that was supposed to be in line with the arrow. Guess what? Did exactly as the instructions said and the thing was still as secure as Fort Knox! After messing with it for a few minutes I noticed another tab on the side that hadn't been mentioned in the opening instructions. I pried this out with a screwdriver then gave the lid a sharp twist. It resisted but did come off. I made sure NOT to turn it until it clicked when I closed it.

That locomotive does run, just not very well without a tender. Here are a couple of pics of the li'l critter, 40+ years' worth of dust and all: (sorry about the shaky "helicopter view", it was very windy...:D

Afternoon everyone! Hope all are enjoying their weekend free of labor (hehehe)! You fellows doing work around the house this weekend are blowing the purpose of Labor Day...free from work to allow playtime on the layout.

Playing football these weekends sure tire me out. Bama did it, even though they tripped over their own feet a dozen times. Got to give Vtech credit: they never gave up and fought to the end. Great defensive game.

Bad break for Oklahoma, but I'm sure they will get back strong, quickly.

Sure enjoying my A/C in the Depot (Although only in the upper 70's, the humidity is very high.). I'm out here enjoying the peace and solitude of my little towns and countryside, while getting the courage to put that backdrop back on :o.

Hope all enjoy their Labor Day weekend! Remember.......no work-work....not a bead of sweat! :D
