Philip: Wow, that was quite a bangup. She's got to be sore from that. Maybe all the insurance companies can haggle and work it out among themselves and not have any nasty court appearance. The only problem with that would be, "whose driving record will be affected".

Bob: I forgot about the Beach Boy's song. The one I was referring to was "Ko Ko Mo (I Love You So)" of the 1950's and by the Flamingo's. Several had their rendition of it, including Perry Como, but the Flamingo version was the one my Mom liked to sing around the house and soon wore on me :). It was a spirited be-bop song. BTW: Beach Boy songs are still some of my favorites.

Rex, odd that you should mention The Flamingos. I read in today's paper the John E. Carter, the ex-singer for The Flamingos, died this week. He was best know for his falsettos and left the Flamingos to join a group called the Dells.

Evening everyone!

Phillip - sorry to hear about your daughter's mishap. Thankfully nobody was seriously hurt, the liability insurance should cover everything I would hope. With that airbag being deployed, that pretty much renders the car a total loss since those things cost ~$3000; painful, but definitely preferable to the alternative [non-airbag] scenario..!

BOC - loved those harbor pix, especially that last one with the old-style lakeboat. Those things are rapidly vanishing from the Great Lakes, sure gonna miss them when they're gone :(

Karl I know those weather guessers often act like Chicken Little, but still, they're not always wrong...and I figured that Vicky and the kids would probably want me around for a few more years, so the basement hideout was my only option.

Anyhoo, that long-lost check from MRH finally appeared in my mailbox. Well actually, it was a duplicate - the original fell into a black hole somewhere in the U.S. Mail system. So I promptly called the LHS in Winfield and had him order two wireless throttles, which should be in by Thursday. Now I don't need to depend on my all guest operators having to supply their own throttles, yeehaw!

PhilSorry to hear about the daughters little bang up. I'm sure she's not feeling to hot right now, but that will pass. Don't be suprised though if the insurance co doesnt at least attempt to fix the car though. Mainly because a) it doesnt appear to have a bent roof, so the uni-body may still be very much intact and b) Ford built a few gazillion of those cars, so replacement parts (used) are pretty cheap compared to other cars. Hopefully the police investigation will show that the other guy was at fault.
Ken, When you go to assign cab addresses to the new radio cabs, dont assign #7 , cuz thats the address my Procab R is set for. :D That way my cab wont affect yours. In fact you may want to contact JoeM to see what FCSME addresses are open so that they wont overlap if you bring one to a show. Oh, and my regular Procab is 19, and my cab 04 is 27.
Sandy I like the pictures. Especially the mountain scene. The wife just got back from Red Rocks and got some great shots of the area outside of Denver. She's a huge Whitesnake fan and got to see what may have been David Coverdale's last concert. See, partway through the show his voice gave out, and he had to cut the show short, and now he's under Doctors orders to keep quiet until the issues with his vocal cords get straightened out. So there went the rest of the US tour out the window. He's 60 years old and has been hinting at retirement, this may be his time.
Well, gotta toddle along, gotta work tomorrow!

Karl...Red Rocks is a great concert venue. Sorry to hear that your wife's concert was cut short. :( I have been to several concerts there. Saw the Beach Boys there 3 or 4 times. One of the best was John Denver with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. Was absolutely amazing.

I have been to John Denver's concerts 3xs before his untimely death. Hands down it was incredible to go to. I have been to a lot of concerts in my day but his were the best I have ever been to.

Answer to dolphin question, Dolphins are pack animals and Hunt in packs of no less than 3 animals, The pic was of a lone animal hunting and fishing by himself.

Phil, wow what a wreck:eek:! Hope your daughter heals fast!:) Prayers goes out to ya!

Good morning.

It's 71 and partly cloudy. The high will be around 90 and it will be partly cloudy.

I've been shifting things around on the layout a bit so it makes more sense now that the new background in place. A small machine shop is giving me fits. It just doesn't look right anywhere. Last time I checked yesterday my sister's mower still was not fixed. Give my nephew a simple job to do and it MIGHT get done IF he feels he has the time after he gets up around noon. Now let a motorcycle ride with his friends come up and he's up and gone before dawn. Such was the case yesterday. I'll probably end up having to do the job myself. Getting down onto the ground to work under the mower is easy. Getting up, that's hard. I want to get her yard done before Tuesday. I still have my parent's yard to do this week and that's a much bigger job. On the layout front I'll be working on placing out more foreground elements to see what looks good.

Good morning folks

It was 70 F and a little less humid this morning as I headed into the office. High will be 86 F.

I was not around much this weekend. Friday I took my wife to see the specialist about the kidney stones she had a couple of weeks ago. They ran some test and took her stone she passed for analysis. Right now her only diet restriction is she must limit tea. This will be tough for her since her primary beverage is iced tea. During the night we had a huge storm. There was thunder and lightning from about 11 PM to 3 AM. It rained heavy for about 3 hours.

Saturday we went to the Camden Riversharks game. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate. During the second inning the rain and lightening started. After seeing the Ben Franklin Bridge get struck by lightning we decided it was time to take cover. The game was subsequently called. We waited around for the rain to lessen some before leaving. We had to take several detours on the way home because of flooded roads. Between the storm overnight and this we got 2 to 3 inches of rain and some areas got in excess of 4 inches. None of this was from Hurricane Bill. It was just a typical August cold front moving slowly through.

Sunday was just the normal biweekly shopping trip. In the evening I had to mow the backyard jungle. By the time I was finished I just want to sit down in air conditioning with a large cold drink. I thought I would get some modeling done but after the lawn I was too beat.

Phil, hope your daughter recovers fast.

Larry, it is good to hear that things are going as well as they can in such situation.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good Morning!!

I'm all energetic and rarin' to go on the trestle/bridge thingee--We got the jigs, stain, and the wood for the whole operation---oh, and the girders for the river part----this oughta be fun:D:D:D:D

The weather here is calling for a partly cloudy day with the ever present 30% chance of showers. Our high will be 24C today with the low tonight at 11C. Tomorrow will be sunny with the high at 26C. Right now we are at 10C with 99% humidity and a mostly cloudy start to the day-----

Anyhoooo--you all have a good day:D:D:D

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes. Autumn is quite sore, but she's doing better. She can hobble around a bit, and since we already own a wheelchair and crutches (due to three members of the family having MD......she's one of them) she's able to use them to help get her around. She's supposed to head to school tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes.

Afternoon, everyone.

Phillip, I forgot about the MD issues in your family. That does complicate the healing issues somewhat but Autumn should still be fine in a couple of days. Have you seen a police report yet?

Tom, if your wife likes it, lemonade made with real lemon is very good for people with kidney stones. It increases the amount of citrate in the kidneys, which inhibits the formation of stones. The main thing is that she drink as much liquid as possible, since higher liquid intake is the only thing that's been positively correlated with the reduction of stone production. I sure hope she doesn't get into a non-passing stone situation. No fun. :(

Rex, I was thinking of the Beach Boys modern "Kokomo" song, the one about all the tropical paradises. Now I can't the dang thing out of my head. :)

BOC, I guess that ship looked so disused because she was undergoing a refit. I'm sure glad they didn't have self-unloaders during my summer on the Lakes in 1965. The only port time we got was while the ship was being loaded or unloaded and that was only about 12 hours. I understand the newer self-unloaders can do the entire turnaround in less than four hours.

Ken, darned right you should take a tornado warning seriously. Nothing will happen most of the time but, if it does, being in the right place may save your life. There's an old saying in statistics about odds versus stake. The odds may be low that you'll actually be struck by a tornado but the stakes are high if it happens.

Sandy, we saw the Eagles at Red Rocks way back in 1987. It was after dark and lighting effect were surreal. There were a lot of people smoking those funny looking cigarettes, which I'm sure helped the effect. :) Great concert and even better since I wasn't a cop in Colorado so I could just look the other way.

Chis, nice dolphin pictures. We were sailing in the southern Caribbean and one of our party was a fish expert guy - I can't remember the proper name - and he said single dolphins out hunting are teenage males that have been run off from the school to start their own school by seducing females away from other packs. Sounds pretty harsh but I guess that's how you grow up if you're a dolphin.

Jeffrey, fixing lawn mowers, it they're your own, is bad enough. Fixing them for lazy shiftless people is just plain irritating. Just take that machine shop building off the layout for now and forget about it. Once you have everything else arranged, the perfect place will pop up.

BOC, still stealing our rain, I see. :D Nice pictures but what and where are they? I love bridge building but it can get awful tedious at times with a wood trestle.

Larry, I know it's a little more depressing now that the funeral is over and most people have left. I'll still be keeping you and the family in my prayers.

Wow, fall came early to Alabama. The low was 60 last night, two degrees below the previous record. It's only 84 now and it's actually...let's see, what's the right word...oh, yeah, comfortable outside. The humidity is only 35% so we have a negative heat index. If Alabama was always like this in August, this would be like paradise.

It's a good thing Bill stayed offshore. It has one of the highest energy indexes of any recent hurricane, including Katrina. It made landfall in Newfoundland as a category one hurricane, the first time that has ever happened. It's now a strong extra-tropical depression headed toward Iceland and the north of England. It's amazing how much energy one hurricane can contain.

I saw my nephew when he got home from his college course today. He didn't take any time to fix the mower (probably would have taken 10 minutes). He had some friends meet him right as he got there then he got on his motorcycle and left. I told my sister that IF he ever gets around to fixing it he can mow the rest of the yard himself or she can do it. I don't care which. I'm tired of it!

That's the way to go, Jeffrey. He probably has the attitude: "...why should I do it when ole Uncle Jeff will give in. Besides, I'm too busy with important things!"
Been there, done that! ;)

Jim I knew I forgot something!!:eek: The 3 that appears on the last set--a couple of quarry pix from the St. Mary's Cement facilities and the little bridge---where from St Mary's ON, and the chimneys were on a Wescast plant north of Exeter ON. All the harbour pix are from Goderich ON while the conveyor system came from the St Mary's Cement plant (said conveyor goes all the way across a main road into an even lower set quarry on the other side of road) and the abandoned farmhouse was on Amberley Road near Amberley ON----all sites NW of London ON

We's puttin' the miles on the car -----

Well, it does slow down the healing, and bone structures are a bit different shaped, but mostly it changes the medications that can be used, either because some aren't effective, or because some have bad reactions. For instance, Vicodin has a very mild effect, but Novocaine can kill. Weird, huh?

So anyways, I got home this evening and she's up and walking around a little. Thats great! She's also just taking Tylenol, so thats also great news!

Phil Glad to hear your daughter is on the mend!

My son leaves for college Wednesday at 7 a.m.. Thank goodness he is not allowed to take his car for the freshman year (college rules, not mine!). True, if he needs me or needs to come home, I have to go get him (or the ex wife) but at least that will give me an excuse to go to the train store that right off campus! Gettysburg is not that far, less than an hours drive.

Got some more corn from our garden for corn on the cob, BBQ'ed ribs and summer squash for supper---heeheehee:D:D

The eyeballs are not enjoying all the trestle bent making-----taking a break---this could take awhile:eek::rolleyes:

Beachville ON Limestone quarry, "Spring", friends car with 427ci stuffed in it, "Spring" stuffed himself into this garden house

Good morning.

It's 73 and cloudy. The high will be in the low 90's and it will be partly cloudy.

Got some clouds made yesterday and hope to get more made today. I have 8 homemade stencils to use for the job so I can mix them up if I want. Still shifting structures around a bit trying to find the right balance. It might be easier if it was a residential area. As it is it's a small industrial area with some small businesses and few residences outside of a couple of small hotels. Yesterday I sorted through my boxcars on the layout and removed any that don't fit the late 70's - post 70's. No roofwalks, high ladders, high brake wheels (alldoor cars excluded as tyhey have two, one high and one low) with the exception of MoW cars. In all, 14 boxcars are being dropped and will go into the storage container under the layout.
