Hiya people,

The A/C man just left and the indoor temps should once again be significantly cooler than outside. Only had to pay the standard $60 Service Fee, labor and replacement parts were all covered under the home warranty contract.

A/C is a must in the south! I'm in the heat 16 hours a day.......It's so nice to have a A/C'ed home to come home too!:)

Fish Fry Friday I hoped it grilled fish and not fried. The fried stuff of any kind blows my sugar thru the roof. I love onion rings and yesterday I had some fer lunch and I payed for it the rest of the day. Grease and my tummy do not like each other anymore.

Larry, you know I don't live too far away. If you need anything, call me, OK? I'll send you my number.

My prayers for your family and friends in this rough time.

I know it's been posted before, but that doesn't make it any less true now, so I'll post it again........words to think about during this time..............

Homesick

You're in a better place, I've heard a thousand times
And at least a thousand times I've rejoiced for you
But the reason why I'm broken, the reason why I cry
Is how long must I wait to be with you

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

Help me Lord cause I don't understand your ways
The reason why I wonder if I'll ever know
But, even if you showed me, the hurt would be the same
Cause I'm still here so far away from home

I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
I've never been more homesick than now

In Christ, there are no goodbye
And in Christ, there is no end
So I'll hold onto Jesus with all that I have
To see you again
To see you again

And I close my eyes and I see your face
If home's where my heart is then I'm out of place
Lord, won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow
Won't you give me strength to make it through somehow

I've never been more homesick than now

Larry I just got on and I see that your MIL passed away? Condolences from our family to yours. Take care over there--

Audrey and I went out to the mall to get some basic supplies in for the week. Gonna sit now and try to get some painting done on one of the Kate's Colonials I bought

Larry,

I am so sorry to hear about yout Mother-in-law. Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. I pray that you will find peace and comfort, and that wonderful memories will ease the sadness in your hearts.

Sandy

Larry, if Phil's not too far away, I can't be that far either. If you need ANYTHING post me a PM here. I think my email address is posted in my profile, too. I'll check and make sure. I can get you my phone # if needed.

Something I remembered:

A Better Place

She’s in a better place right now
Than she’s ever been before;
All pain is gone; she’s now at rest;
Nothing troubles her anymore.

It’s we who feel the burden of
Our sadness and our grief;.
We have to cry, to mourn our loss,
Before we get relief.

We know we’ll reconnect with her
At the end of each life’s road;
We’ll see her cherished face again
When we release our earthly load.

Larry fer ya, grilled grouper with a little lemon, pepper with a dash of salt, loaded baked potato, and vegie of your choice:D How about a tasty sweet treat?

when my Mom passed and then my dad few years later....Food was my friend, I cook foods both of them made and things I made that they enjoyed. Having the house smell like they were in the kitchen was very helpful! I do most of the cooking in the house and I'm slowly teaching my son some of the dishes That my dad, mom and me make! While I teach him how to cook one of the dishes I would tell him stories of that person. My dad has been gone now 11 years but when I start to miss him I cook some potato pancakes, stink up the house with the smells of the food and over the meal talk about him........Food can help!

Good morning.

It's 74 and clear. The high will be in the low 90's and it will be partly cloudy.

Went to see the foot doc yesterday. There's been no real progress on the healing of the wounds. I'm going back on the 31st to get the paperwork for the upcoming surgery out of the way. We got the word in the paper yesterday that lake will cease being a half dried puddle in October. By that time the levee and spillway will be completely repaired and the problems with the lock and dam will be resolved. Rebuilding of the spillway park is progressing. The beach has been rebuilt, the boat launch area widened and the swimming area made larger. On the layout front I put the first foreground elements in place against the background so it appears the Sundown industrial area continues on the other side of the tracks and the railroad crossing lines up with a road on the foreground. In the coming weeks I'll be adding other such additions.

Today's Weather for:
Sundown, LA 71446-6114 8/22/2009

Heat Index: 78°F
Humidity: 89%
Dew Point: 71°F

So Far Today
High: 77°F
Low: 74°F
Rain: 0.00"
Rain Rate: 0.00"/h
Gust: 6mph NNE

Today High: 91 with a heat index of 95. Partly cloudy. Highs in the mid 90s. North winds 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight Low: 65 Partly cloudy. Lows in the mid 60s. East winds around 5 mph.

Chris that's an interesting way of remembering loved ones! Except that the foods my wife's late father enjoyed were all kind of bizzarre, and nobody else could stand them!

Friday evening turned out to be an adventure. I had just arrived home from work, and was finishing preparation of my supper. I'd seen some impressive thunderheads to the west as I drove home, so I thought I'd see what they looked like on the online radar map. When my local weather page displayed, there was a special announcement outlined in red: Tornado Warning. Not 'watch', but 'warning'! It listed a number of counties that were in danger (mine was one of them), and stated that 'rapid rotation' had been detected in an area within 3 miles of my property. The statement went on to say that if I was in one of the threatened areas I must "Take cover quickly!" Since my house is a split-foyer design, my basement isn't a true basement (it has windows) - so the only tornado-safe place is the downstairs bathroom. That's where I wound up eating my supper and staying for the next 45 minutes. Good thing my family was away, otherwise it would have been awfully cramped in there!

After the threat had passed, I went to my news radio station's website and tried to find out if a tornado had actually touched down. But I couldn't get my streaming audio software to install:mad: - so I'm still wondering. Guess I'll find out when I head over to my daughter's school this morning.

Larry, my sincere condolences and may God bless your family with the strength an love to help pass through this sad time.

Jim: As I wrote before, I'm not sure if all counties practice the same setup for jury duty. The wife told me yesterday that a work friend had to stay all day every day, even when not chosen...yup, the whole week. What a PIA! It could be worse, the Mayor of Birmingham trial is now going to be held here in T-town (change of venue) at the Fed court house, October (I think). Bet that thing goes on and on and on..... BTW: WONDERFUL day in T-town with low humidity and temp. Note: I had a colleague get nailed for Fed Grand Jury and he had the duty for six months. He had to go to B'ham every Monday to see if there were any juries for the week.

KenL: I saw all the action up your direction and thought about you. There was even a tornado warning in southern Maine . I remember one tornado that came through near Alexander while we where living up there. The wife and I were boat fishing on a lake in that area and it scared the peonies out of us. A friend was in his second floor apartment when he saw the roof go passed his balcony. I ask him what he did, " Oh, I just had another drink and tried to figure out what that was.":D:D

Well, time to get back to my trim painting. Yeah I know, "WHAT!" You see, it is easy to come up with excuses using the weather..."it's too hot, dear!". Not today though, so I am outta here for now. Later!

Afternoon, everyone.

Chris, my dad's favorite was potato pancakes too. I never could make them like him. He was the good cook in our household. My mom never did learn how to cook things without burning them. My dad used to make a bunch of weird German stuff that smelled bad but always tasted good. I can see how food would be a comfort.

Larry, I hope you and the family are doing as well as can be expected today.

Rex, looks like a week is standard here. Dianna got called and she had to go down to the courthouse everyday at 1:00 and sit around until 4:30 to see if she would be selected. I'll do my best to give them my "I'm a retired cop and think everyone is guilty" speech and see if it helps. :) Beautiful day here as well. It's still 93 but the humidity is only 27% and we've got a nice breeze. What a change from the last week. I sure would hate to be called for a Federal jury. Those case do tend to go on forever and they have no mercy about letting you off. Have fun painting. At least you can do it without getting heat stroke today. Sounds like your friend's experience with the tornado is a good illustration of the rule that it's better to be drunk if something bad is about to happen.

Ken, it looks like the outer bands of Bill interacted with the low pressure system that moved east yesterday and spooled up some nasty storms. I couldn't find anything on the NWS web site about tornado touch downs so I suspect they saw the rotation on radar but never got any ground reports. There's still a lot of tropical air in place around Baltimore and it looks like you're going to get a heck of a lot of rain. Nothing looks too severe in terms of tornado's but you need a weather radio if you don't have one. One thing's for sure, there's going to be a lot of flooded basements before Monday morning. Looks like about four hours before the rains get to the Delaware beaches but it's going to be pretty much a washout after that. :(

Jeffrey, I hope that foot wound gets to healing soon. Your back drop pictures are amazing. Makes me want to rip mine out and get some decent back drop photos.

BOC, I looked at those Kate's Colonial houses but they seemed to be really expensive for what you get. Do they look worth it now that you have one?

I'm finally finished with my city hall and jail. I took me way longer than I thought to shoehorn a building into an unplanned space and have it come out looking like it's supposed to be there. I'm working on my country church now and trying to come up with the kind of muddy looking gravel roads we have down here. City streets are easy by comparison. I can get the mud part right and the gravel part right but I haven't gotten the mixture to look right. Time to go down and cogitate some more.

My day started off OK but then went downhill from there. I went over to mow my sister's yard this morning and didn't even get half the front yard finished. Since it's been a while since it was last mowed the grass was pretty thick in places. The blades got caught up in one of these places and stopped. I disengaged the blades but it wouldn't disengage. Even before I could turn the key off the blade drive belt burned in two. My sister says she'll get another one today and have her son put it on. Yeah, right! He's the one who was supposed to get the gas for the mower all last week and didn't! He was too busy sitting on his dead butt! I'll probably be the one putting the belt on.

Philip, I am currently in Marion, but Kokomo is close, just 35 miles west. But, I sure miss being in Cheboygan, Michigan at the new house. The boats were much closer and we have a BIG lake to play on. And the atmosphere and aior is so much different there. Mowt of the people up there could care less if tomorrow ever comes. Laid back doesn't even describe the atmosphere there.

Jeffrey, the bad thing about a day going downhill is that you have to climb back up to the top. And sometimes that's harder than getting there in the first place.

Rex, is that from the old Beach Boys tune "Kokomo"? I've got that on the boat's MP3 player. That and all of that other "summer music".

Chris, my Dad, who died in 1999, loved spicy food. That's an understatement. I once made him a batch of my "Six Pck Chili". It's green, rather than red, and is one of the most tasty dishes I can cook. And there is a reason for it being called "Six Pack Chili", it takes a 6-pack to wash a bowl down. I made 5-gallons of the mix one time for him to take to work for his compadres. I asked if he would like a sample before he went to work.

As he was eating it, I asked how it tasted. With sweat dripping down his brow and off the end of his nose he proclaimed, "This stuff is REAL!!"

I've only made the soup twice since Dad passed away. Might make another batch in the near future. Sounds good right now. Better go stock up on some beer, though.

We grow a tomato that when ripe is green for the sauce/juice. That gives it the green color, in case some of you were wondering.

Mom, who died in 1998, lost much of her mobility due to a series "micro-bursts" , a stroke like deal. We would go visit her every other week and bring the fixin's for a grand meal. Her favorite was beer batter fish, baked beans, cole slaw, and corn on the cob. Sometimes we would add a bit a of cornbread or hush puppies. A better meal than Long John Silver's any day.

Another of her favorites was a goulash, made with leftover macaroni. Add hamburger and tomatoes and it's done.

Man, I'm gettin' a hunger thing goin' here.

I went to the flea market this morning and got one whale of a deal. I bought 20 stock cars, all of pretty good quality, for $20. There were all Roundhouse, Proto 1000's, and Athearn. With the 12-15 I already have, that should fix me up with those cars. And no Tycos, Bachmann's, or Life Likes in the bunch. You know, the ones with Talgo trucks. No bashing!!! I like that. And all had Kadees. Most are like new in box and some are unassembled.

I'm in hog heaven. Pun intended.

Bob

Hiya Gang!

Larry. Heartfelt sympathies to you and yours from our house.

Ken All we got here was lots of rain last night, and a lot of lightning off to our southeast (toward your area). Barely any wind at all! Funny, how you were in an area of rapid rotation, and our area was still, and I bet we are only 15 or so miles away by the way the crow flies. Oh, and I do have a way to tell if you are in an area of rapid rotation...if the stuff from the front of the house is in the back yard, and the backyard stuff is in the front yard.......get it?

Chris You can keep the fish. I'd rather be a vegetarian than eat fish daily. Once in a great while I will partake, usually for a grilled fish portion. Yeah, I know I'm wierd. Being from Maryland I'm supposed to like crabs. I'd rather eat spiders.

Well, the 18 year old is off to college in a few days, so he came over to visit dear old Dad and show me his list of stuff he needs for his dorm room. Well, his step-mom took the list and ran with it, and we just sent him home with his car brimming with school supplies, clothing, alarm clock, fan, cleaning supplies, dishes, coffee maker and such. First time I ever saw him hug his step-mom. :D I have a feeling that this kid is going to be the one that outshines all his brothers & cousins. I can't wait til the next 4 years go by!

Well, gotta run, his 13 year old bro is giving me the "Dad, I'm bored" look!:rolleyes:
